Latin Hip Hop Star Malverde Joins Spirit

Latin Hip Hop star Malverde has signed a worldwide publishing administration deal with Spirit Music Group.

Malverde, the first major Mexican Hip Hop artist signed to Machete/ Universal Records, made his move to the majors three years ago as a result of the tremendous buzz he built up with his underground classic Mi Palabra. The album was critically acclaimed, becoming the first urban project to receive a five star rating in Batanga Magazine and making Malverde the first Spanish language MC to be acknowledged by The Source Magazine as an artist to watch. His February '08 major label debut, La Levenda Continua, was one of the most acclaimed of the burgeoning Spanish Hip Hop movement and has established him as a lead voice in Latin Hip Hop.

In recent months, Malverde has been omnipresent in Latin media, appearing regularly on MTV Tr3s, Mun2 and SiTV while headlining shows around the country sponsored by Heineken, Hennessey and Xbox. His music has been featured actively in television programming, most recently on HBO's Entourage.

Following an introduction by Spirit creative exec Michael Rivera, Malverde began a collaboration with songwriter/producer Marthin Chan. The resulting project, known as the MalEco Collective, combines Hip-Hop, Rock and Pop with Dub Reggae and Latin percussion to create a sound completely unique within the Latin and Urban musical soundscape. Malverde and Marthin are in the studio and plan their first MalEco release in early '09.
