A fitting tribute to John Peel including three artist who between them have recorded no less than six BBC Sessions for the legendry broadcaster. Rise Kagona's former band The Bhundu Boys charting on Johns Festive 50 1987 and The Aphrodisiacs charting in 2002 and 2004. Rise and the Bhundu Boys were in the vanguard of African bands championed by John, famously The Old Grey Whistle Test last ever show, features them In concert at Dublin and at The Mean Fiddler in London, plus John Peel met up and spent a day with the group, giving a fly-on-the-wall insight into their private life.
Champion Doug Veitch also notching up 6 NME Singles of the week much due to the Peel patronage. Both now form the heart of Culture Clash and appear for us as the most dynamic of duo's

The Aphrodisiacs - three piece experimental, dance, electronic rock from Motherwell, Scotland, played two peel sessions.
Calamateur, played his first London gig for last years Peel Day with Rise and Doug, and was another act that Peel gave a leg up to by playing him on his Radio 1 show. Andrew has the knack of building songs from apparently disparate parts; delicately picked acoustic, soft harmonies, feedback, distortion, electronics, montages of samples, thunderous bass, rock guitar, and found sound; which make sense as satisfying, haunting wholes. His album, 'The Old Fox Of '45' was recently voted one of the top 15 Scottish albums of all time in a poll by 'Is This Music?' magazine. He's been played extensively on Radio 3's Late Junction and is hailed in his homeland of Scotland as something of a lofi singin' songwritin' genius.
Strong Like Ox Strong Like Ox are based in Scotland and prefer to let their music talk rather than play off any of the past accomplishments of their previous identity, We think John would approve.
