YES! I WON IT , I COULDNT BELIEVE IT...BUT ITS TRUE....I ACTUALLY I WASNT EVEN AT THE CEREMONY....SO I MISSED MY MOMENT....DOH...STILL IS PRETTY SWEET WINNING THIS PRIZE EVEN THO IF IT WAS JUST ME AND MY GUITAR....WAM IS WEST AUSTRALIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION, SO ITS "THE" SONGWRITING PRIZE TO WIN IN WA, WHERE YOU GET RECOGNISED BY ALL THE INDUSTRY HEAVYWEIGHTS...I GUESS IT'S A NICE THING TO BE NOTICED...AFTER ALL IVE BEEN ACTIVE IN THE MUSIC SCENE FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS!...MY FIRST PROFESSIONAL GIGS IN WA WERE IN 1990 WITH ROSIES KITCHEN...I ACTUALLY PLAYED WITH ANOTHER BAND SPOOKY AT THE (ONE OF THE FIRST) WAM CEREMONIES! ALONGSIDE SQUIDFINGER, CIRCUS MURDERS AND CINEMA PRAGUE...AHH THE GOOD OLD TIMES...

HI PEOPLES

Yes, the duality of life keeps us on our toes....Sadly tonight, Raul has left the country for good until further notice.  He's gone back to Canada to find his destiny, so we wish him all the best.  He's a unique individual and an amazing percussionist and performer that comes around once in a lifetime i think. Im going to miss him a lot but im happy for him, because he'll find what he wants in Canada. 

Now to the happy bits, got nominated for WAM song of the year 2008! again, the gods must be crazy! you can hear the track "The Land" at www.myspace.com/feedbackwood  And, we have a replacement for Raul in Oslu, from Colombia via Argentina.  Oslu has already played with us a few times and he's the real deal too, a very knowledgeable afro cuban style percussionist from the land of Salsa, Cumbia and Vallenato, so we welcome Oslu in the Funkalleros rank! yay! 

Myaravale has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances but it will be on again next year.

Funkalleros have been keeping a low profile in the winter months and we are again working up to some spring and summer gigs, i have been writing quite a few songs and also working on a solo album....we'll see what happens!

I (AND FUNKALLEROS) HAVE BEEN SHORTLISTED FOR YET ANOTHER SONG COMPETITION!!, THIS TIME ITS A NATIONAL ONE THE AUSTRALIAN SONGWRITERS ASSOCIATION ANNUAL SONG COMPETITION, SELECTED FROM THOUSANDS OF ENTRIES ACROSS AUSTRALIA!  SO IT FEELS VERY SPECIAL INDEEDY.  tHE SONG SELECTED WAS SUBVERSIVO.

GIG WISE, ITS PRETTY QUIET AT THE MOMENT....THERE ARE A FEW IN SIGHT...FREMANTLE ARTS CENTRE AFTERNOONY GIG SOMETIME IN OCTOBER, AND A BENEFIT FOR EAST TIMOR IN SERPENTINE SOMETIME IN SEPTEMBER..MYARAVALE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2008....STAY TUNED FOR MORE INFO....

HELLO!  YES WE ROCKED AND WE DID THANKS TO THE WHOLE VIBE CREATED BY DJ BABA ULLI, EDUARDO COSSIO AND OF COURSE BELEZA SAMBA SCHOOL, WHO ROCKED THE FLY BY NIGHT BEFORE WE TOOK TO THE STAGE.  IF YOU MISSED IT, THERE ARE SOME VIDS ON U TUBE THAT I UPLOADED YESTERDAY, SO HAVE A LOOK....THAT WAS THE FIRST SET, THE SECOND SET WAS SMOKIN' FINISHING ON A GUITAR-THROWING FRENZY....THANKS TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT CAME ALONG...AND MADE IT A REAL PARTY  YEHAAA!

 

HELLO FELLOW BLOGGERS!~

YES, it was an AWESOME weekend, we played at the west coast blues and roots on DA BIG STAGE with DA BIG SOUND and DA BIG SCREENS it was the biggest bestest gig in a while...just before seasick steve, what a dude!, it was a  great experience to be treated like ROYALTY by the festival promoters and mingling with the stars...uploading some photos soon...John Fogerty seemed unhappy posing for photographs (well in fact everyone was cept for seasick steve!) but i did meet quite a few stars...ozomatli fukin rocked the house with guests from other bands and jurassic 5 they are one of my favourite party bands and they do the batucada thing at the end by walking through the crowd...’

coming up we have the joondalup festival which i hope will be a huge day too on the 13th of april 2008 at 330 pm.....and then our CD launch latin party rocky funky crazy thang at the fly by night on the 19th of april....gonna get some t shirts printed and postcards and cd’s and coffee mugs and socks and  and ....then  my head will explode...its a lot of work promoting gigs but someone has to do it...we are hopefully doing ok in terms of solidifying our reputation in this town but i dont have the thirsty ambition of being huge, i think im way past that...but its nice to get recognised (hey that rhymes!)
