Some sad news.  The She Likes Van has officially bit the dust.  Rob first got it back in '06, so that we could go on our first tour.  Three years later, the poor beast is dead.  We don't need a new van for a while, but we will get there eventually.  Anyhow, I don't even know what to say.  Just take a moment and raise your glass to our rubber and metal friend.  I'm looking at you, Rule 22.

Make sure to make it out to the record release show on the 19th.  It will be your favoritest night.  LIke ever.

STORYBOOK ENDINGS

when did the magic all begin to fade
like sidewalk chalk that's running in the rain

i used to see the picture all to clear
now it's just one distorted smear

in school they asked were i'd be in ten years
but the kid that they asked doesn't live here
so much has changed so much was lost then found

but it's all been watered down

and every day
exposes everything till the,
world reverts...

the picture that they painted starts to crack
expose reality paint peels back
a dying world with dark decrepit skies

starts to emerge from beneath lies

of storybook endings and fairy-tales
happily ever after always fails
back then i always used to buy that shit
now i'm
smart enough to question it

and every day
exposes everything till the,
world reverts and turns to black

ANOTHER STARLESS NIGHT

a first class trip to self demise
honesty always reflects lies

and the mirrors filling up so fast
can't escape the past
everything repressed
is coming up choking out my life

cause sometimes when i gasp for breath
i know there's nothing left
this hollow creep inside

is committing my spiritual suicide

we set things up so they will fall
i set myself up after all
cause nothing truly is as bright
as when we look into the sun after
another starless night

i watched the beams of light

creep into my home
watched them come to life
then disappear and leave me alone

whenever i'm all by myself
i rarely reach for help
the person that i find
is the one that i'm trying to leave behind

AN
INTERRUPTION IN NONEXISTENCE

how do i know if this is real or a dream
were her last words before she died at seventeen
now i'm watching the time fly
have four years really gone by
because it still seems like a sick dream

a nightmare intertwined reality

i sit in the cemetery under autumn skies
nothing has been the same since the fourth of july
i pretend it's a mistake
like the whole thing has been faked
then i realize it's all a lie

she kissed this world goodbye

we can't change what is in the past
and it will lead us down new paths
to what comes tomorrow
and when this finally all ends
what if all that we find out then
is this was just pretend

well did it matter friend

and now it's happened once again
somehow we lost another friend
seems like the whole thing was a waste
a blip amongst the cosmic line
some crumble some fade over time
at least we all will get a
taste

as the frost shines in the sun
disappears from the lives of everyone
late at night when we fall asleep
it returns with the moon like vague memories

KALEIDOSCOPE OF SCREAMS

do you feel electric

it's better when you don't expect it
and suddenly you're out of control

drunk with anticipation
my heartbeat meets acceleration
adrenaline is pumping at full

suddenly the moment i'm lost in's

the only one i'll see
but in my dreams
the instant echoes a kaleidoscope of screams

feels so magnetic
you know that i'll never forget it
and that i'm always looking for more

the aftertaste is priceless

barely anything suffices
when all i want is half an encore

gradually even the brightest star
drowns in the timeless sea
but in my dreams
kaleidoscope of screams

Current mood:!!!!
Godddamn it's been a while!

We're very happpppppy to announce that we've completed tracking half of our next album! Older and wiser, we went MacD.I.Y.ver. What you hear up on the front page are the first four songs of the album, tentatively edited as two sides of the 7-inch we'll be releasing in the next 6 weeks or so. These are the unmastered mixes, but we're sure that once the legendary Alan Douches gets his hands on it [Ben Folds, Mastodon, Converge, Dillinger Escape Plan, Jesusfuckingchrist], it'll probably wind up emptying your bowels into your trousers. We'll definitely keep you posted on that front.

We're incredibly excited about what we're doing here. We genuinely hope that you enjoy the new material.

See ya 'round!

Current mood:  drunk
What up kids?  I have a pretty big announcement.  If you recall, earlier this summer, our beloved and good friend, Todd Josefson, who has been with the band since 1998, became the full time drummer for Rule 22, also our close and dear friends.  We were in a pretty tough spot, having to find someone to fill Todd's place, learn all of our live songs, and mesh with us as musicians.

Well, as of today, I am proud to announce that Dennis Tynan is officially our new drummer.  Dennis has been a part of the She Likes Todd family for many years, supporting us as a band, playing in numerous side projects with Rob and Kyle, and even playing horns on some of our earlier records.  We've always known he was a gifted drummer, and after inviting him to jam with us couple of sessions, it became clear that he was a perfect fit, both in his talent and personality.

So what's in the future for us?  Well, first, we are playing the annual Joe-Fest tommorow (see shows), we have numerous shows already booked, and we are just in the process of breaking in our new line up with as many shows as possible.  The new record is still due out sometime in 2009, and beyond that...what can we say?  We're still poor.  We're growing up.  We're getting our lives in order.  But, somehow, we are unable to stop doing what we do.  We have alot left to say, and alot of music to make.  I can only promise you that it will be big, that it will be bold,  that it will come from the heart, and that it will be REALLY REALLY LOUD!!

Thanks for your love and support

Current mood:  aroused
I dunno.  That was some shit from the Lord of the Rings.  What's the news?  WE'RE BACK!  This weekend, SLT plays 2 shows after a way too long hiatus.  So what's new?  Here's what, Kyle is single, Dave's getting married, Rob has this gross growth starting on his knees, and oh yeah THIS: In light of Todd's joining up with Rule 22, we spent the summer rehearsing with Dennis.  Many of you may know him from the epic super-bands Dick'nyerface and Macguyver.  He's an amazing drummer and has done an awesome job of picking up our live set.  He's also been part of the SLT family for a long time, playing horns on some of our older cds (Good to go!, The 600 Club) I'm not certain about this, but I'm pretty sure he'll be filling in on drums this Friday and Saturday.  Either way, it's going to be a great time!  Please come join us in Lombard on Friday or Chicago on Saturday

Current mood:  contemplative

I'm kidding.  Mostly.  It's been a very perplexing and difficult time in the land o' SLT.  Our good friend Josh 22 and Rule 22 have sadly split ways.  To take his place, aparently for good, is the one and only Todd Josefson.  We support his decision as he is easily one of the top drummers in Chicago, and for such a diligent and hardworking band, they deserve him and he deserves to be a part of their growing legacy.

So where does that leave us?  Well, we were on a hiatus to begin with, so it doesn't endanger any future shows, and those few that we have scheduled, he has been cleared to play with us, as they do not conflict with Rule 22's obligations. We will still be recording an EP this fall of brand new material, and hopefully with a certain incredibly talented sound engineer we have been in contact with.

Beyond that, after much discussion, Rob, Kyle, and myself have decided now is a time a time to regroup, rethink, and plan, as we prepare to give this whole music thing the full throttle shot that we've never quite been able to give it so far.  We still have alot of songs and alot of piss and vinegar left in us.  We are incurrently searching for, well, for now we'll call it an interim drummer.    I won't lie.  We are in a bit of a tight spot.  While Rule 22 gets a great drummer who they know and who is very familiar with their work, we have to find an equally talented drummer to learn not only our full live set, but all of our new material as well.

Don't worry though.  We'll pull through.

Josh, we miss you, buddy!  Get in touch!

O.K.
This shit is fucked up.

I get a call at like 11am from Dave, who explained to me that Todd is in jail until sometime tomorrow waiting to see a lawyer. Therefore, there is no bail he can post and is pretty much fucked. So he’s probably looking like our profile pic about now.

In light of the situation, the  SHE LIKES TODD set tonight will be replaced with the sweet sounds of DICK’N YER FACE with a dash of random MACGYVER.  um.... yeah, this probably won’t happen again any time soon so come out and rock out.

Current mood:I laike!

Fuck a demo song. The quality was ok, but why should we waste our time on a track that won't make it to the final cut? Exactly. We've still got the rest of an album to write!

Outside of one of the most annoying colds to ever hit SLT [constantly runny noses, wicked farts, tickly anuses, thanks Oshkosh], we've been hunkering down lately with a lot of ideas and a close friend's recording stuff to try and sketch-out where we might want to take the rest of this album.

We have 7 completed songs nearly ready-to-record [including the acoustic track and the one still needing vocals], and about 6-or-so seeds beginning to round out the rear of the album. We keep making deliberate headway, though more tracks might be added as we dick further with cool stuff we stumbled on.

We've been influenced a lot over the past year by everything we've come in contact with - bands we've met, touring with friends, kickass new releases, parasitic California algae, a new band member, blah, blah blah... so we're trying to pull out some other stops on this one. The new stuff is different, but still very distinctly She Likes Todd. We get excited about the prospects for the new songs, being able to pretty much hear it in our heads. We just wanted you to know that a free demo was really a feeble attempt to actually share part of that excitement, instead of just talking about it on a fucking blog every few weeks [guilty as charged].

We've still got a job to do, and that's gotta come first.

We'd like to apologize for ditching the free track idea, but we think this is a far more productive use of our time and will just get the better sounding, more polished recordings out way faster! We hope you don't mind continuing to sit on your thumbs.

She Likes Ky!e

[...and eat shit anyway, slacker! you can always hear new stuff at live shows.]

[...and P.S. - we just activated shelikestodd.net, our new home on the web. we'll let you know when it's up and running!]

"Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne".

I don't get it either.  But he was Scottish, and I have issues understanding them to begin with.

Well kids, we have reached the end of yet another year of drinkin', fightin', pukin', and dyin'.  Still no Grammy nominations, but we'll keep doing what we do, and hopefully the rest of the world will catch on.  Oh, but it's been a grand 2007.  Probably the best one I've ever experienced, as 2007s go.  But where to start?

I don't feel like writing a novel, so will instead I'll try to outline this year

January

·        Dave goes to India.  Eats Indian food, swallows Indian water, takes Indian shits

·        SLT plays first show with Kyle Tilev solo on guitar.  No one remembers anything about that show to this day

·        Rob, Kyle, and a cast of thousands create Macguyver, the highly anticipated (by Rob and Kyle) and highly praised (by Rob and Kyle) side project based on the works of R.D Anderson.  The world is never the same.

February

·        First official show with both guitar players happens at the Swingstate

·        Snowstorm fucks our shit up when driving home without working windshield wiper

March

·        Rule 22's front axel breaks in two on drive up to the Anti Flag show.  It is decided then and there that we are not taking Rule22's van on tour.

·        After concert, we party in hotel where Jeffery Dahmer killed victim.  Kyle spills food all over floor.  We eat it together.  We see Anti Flag in hotel.  We say hi.  They do the same.

·        We Rob and Kyle top shelf a certain establishment

·        "shit, they'll know"

·        We play in Kaukauna.  Almost get arrested for speeding, possession, and open alcohol containers in our car…but are let go ("you mean you guys are in a band? Cool!").  Kaukauna rocks our collective socks.  Show goes great.  Old lady hits on us.  The The Man then proceeds to bang that old lady and shit on the side of a building…all in one night.

April

·        Van breaks down on the way to show in Indiana.  Mike, guy in overalls, rescues us.  We have to cancel our set.  We feebly attempt to hit on hot hotel clerk. We eat at Ryan's and drink like fools.

·        We play in South bend.  Show is amazing!!.  We find out a murder happened in the motel across the street.  We drive home instead…

May

·        Final mix of split with Rule22 is completed (yay)

·        Dave graduates from college (yaay)

June

·        The split, "Lifestyles of the Poor and Fameless", is released

·        Tour Happens.  We barely leave because Rob becomes dehydrated and passes out.  We just load him in with the equipment and take off.  .

·        Rob plays show from a chair.

·        we play for the mountain folk in Hot Springs.

·        A lost ID is no match for a powerful beard. So sayeth Kyle.

·        The glorious return to Reno.   We tear it up with Billcan and the gang.  Rob is officially better.  Josh22 is abducted by locals.

·        We proceed to California.  Swim in a river.  Stay with some locals.  Party with some yokels.  Play with the Cobra Skulls.

July

·        We play July 4th in Clearlake California on public electricity at a Gazebo.

·        We hang with some cool underage people (Stephanie Amanda and Christine), and are evicted by their dad and the local cops.

·        In a trip full of "flat tires", we actually get a flat tire

·        We got had by Nick from Dun Bin Had

·        We get lost in a secret Masonic forest…fuckin GPS.

·        Back in Reno: a show is cancelled, a show is created, a dog is lost, a dog is found

·        We play in L.A next to the Whiskey, aren't we cool?

·        We return to Vegas.  We drink.  We stink.  Todd meets God while wondering through the desert and is late for a show.

·        We swim in a river in Yuma.  What's with us and rivers?

·        We suddenly develop allergies to cat pee.

·        Phoenix is still really hot.

·        We kick it old school in El Paso, TX with Hooray for Punk.

·        ·        We kick it new school in Austin, TX with Tom22's family

·        A punk kid in a wheel chair in Missouri knows the words to our songs.  One of the best moments for me in the entire tour.

·        We kill dem in Springfield.  Sixteen year old offers to sleep with Todd for having gone to school with The PWT's.  He respectfully declines.

·        We have the biggest crowd out of the bands playing at noon at Skateque.   We get yelled at for drinking beer.  Tour ends.  The van barely makes it home.  We come home how we left: by the skin of our teeth

August – October

·        We play mondo homecoming party at Brauer with Rule22 and our homeboys from Reno

·        We continue writing our next album

·        Dave proposes – she says yes

·        We play mostly local shows

November

·        The opening track to our next CD, "Storybook Endings", is recorded for Kyle's recording project.  Track will hopefully be released on our myspace soon as a preview of the next cd

·        We return to Lake County to play with Rule22, Juice Head, and the Methadones

December

·        We play in Chicago, Dekalb, and finally, our home, The Ardmore Lounge.  The van is calling it quits, and we're getting ready to cause more havoc in 2008.

I know that was a lot, but it was a busy year.  We want to thank all of the people and bands who watched us play, bought our stuff, let us stay with them, partied with us, and made everything worth it.

We hope you know we're never, ever going to stop doing this.  We're going to take over the world next year.

There's going to be a new CD.  We're going to play mostly in the Midwest with a possible tour towards the end of next summer, but nothing is set in stone.  As we get older, wiser, and better at playing while being drunk, you're going to see a bigger, badder us emerge.  There's music to play and good times to be had.

We can't wait to see you all there.  Till then….

Happy New Year from She Likes Todd

Current mood:  bummed

Our dodge van which barely survived 2 cross country treks 2 years in a row, decided it was not up to making the trip to Springfield, IL today.  We're all bummed, but that which does not kill us, only leaves us pissed off.  Sorry we couldn't party with our friends at the Black Sheep Cafe.  Anyway, no doubt we will have to pull some magic out of our butts and either overhaul our beast or overhaul our method of transportation completely.  But let it be known, we didn't give up blossoming careers in astrophysics, microbiology, nuclear medicine, and gynecology to be stopped by a fucked-up fuel pump!!

We'll be back, Sprinfield, I promise!  And all yous in the Elmhurvillaparkbard area, CHRISTMAS AT THE ARDMORE LOUNGE IS STILL ON!!  WE WILL ROCK YOU THERE!!

KEEP IT TUNED HERE FOR ANOTHER ONE OF MY END OF THE YEAR WRAPUPS!  IT WILL NOT BY CLEVER OR FUNNY, BUT IT MAY MAKE YOU POOP, WHICH IS ALWAYS GOOD.
