We are hard at work on The New Scheme #21, which will be posted in December. A full list of features will be nailed down within a week or so. A recap of my epic weekend at The Fest 8 in Gainesville is posted now on www.thenewscheme.com. The full version will run in issue #21 as well.

So, as it turns out today was a banner day for The New Scheme. Issue #20 (!) has been posted, and our new website has launched. Not bad for a Thursday. The issue features five bands, and a "classics" feature on Majority Rule. All the bands are great: My Heart To Joy, Disappearer, City Of Ships, Beware of Safety and Quieting Syrup. Not one "bigger" or "super out there" band in the bunch. I guess I flunk basic music magazine publishing class. But all are good bands, and nice people doing it right. Who knew. The issue, and the new digital mixtape (as a flash player and downloadable, high-quality mp3s) is available now at www.thenewscheme.com which, will hopefully become a website that people visit. Unlike this one these days. Seriously. Check it out. There is way less jailbait there, but also a much, much higher percentage of good bands. Go Rockies. -Stuart stuart@thenewscheme.com The New Scheme (.com)

Current mood: rejuvenated
So there hasn't been a blog post here in more than a year. That is partly because there hasn't been much to report in New Scheme Land for roughly that long. Let's recap.
Since late last spring: - Two issues came out, one printed, one not. - We paid our last printing bill, at least for a while. PDF/online only. Many hearts broken (including mine), but many trees, and expensive stamps/printing bills saved. The fucking future is annoying, but it sure is convenient. - I picked up, and moved this whole operation (me, Thor, two computers, a bunch of records, and not much else) from Denver to Brooklyn. Such a cliche, I know. But a cliche I should have fallen into years ago. - I stopped making magazines as my day job, and left a stifling set of life situations/music scene behind. This healthy dose of perspective/greener grass is fatal for New Scheme-related, one issue/year complacency.
Now: - The New Scheme #20 (!) will be posted the week of August 17th, featuring Majority Rule retrospective, City Of Ships, My Heart To Joy, Disappearer, Beware of Safety, Quieting Syrup, more. There will not be a launch party. That shit is stupid. - There is a whole new website in the works now. It should be up by the end of August. The site will continue to evolve, with supplemental content more regularly, though the focus will still be on "issues" not blog posts.
Future: - Three issues per year, new website, who knows what else.
Clear eyes, full hearts: can't lose. -Stuart stuart@thenewscheme.com

The Denver Warbler blog recently posted a short interview with The New Scheme, which is thankfully not really about The New Scheme. But it is about birds and urinal cakes, so that's exciting. You can check it out here: The Denver Warbler, "Wirds of Denver"

The new issue (#6) of Manual Dexterity features an interview with me, as well as a number of other, much more talented magazine editors. There are also interviews with a handful of solid bands. You can download a copy of the issue here: http://subtitlespublishing.googlepages.com/manualdexterityAlso, the new issue of The New Scheme is starting to trickle out of my apartment and out to distributors. Most of them should be out by the end of next week.

The New Scheme, issue sixteen will be finished next week. The issue features Des_Ark, Triclops, Rob Crow, die Hoffnung, The Stnnning and more. Look for it in print, and available here for download within a couple weeks.
It will be the final issue produced in the current format, which has remained mostly unchanged (for better and worse) for three or four years. The schedule, coverage, printing methods, and especially the digital version will all be changing.

So after months and months, The New Scheme ..15 is finally almost complete. It will feature Russian Circles, The Bouncing Souls, Life At These Speeds, Envy, and The Grey. It has been an uphill battle for a number of forseen and unforseen reasons, but is finally almost done.
It will be the first fully offset (non-newsprint) issue. Big changes are in store after this issue, and I'm not even sure what they will all be yet.
On an unrelated note -- only 9 more months of this boring fucking state, and counting.

Issue fifteen has begun to take shape, even though I have still yet to pay the printing bill for issue fourteen. So far, it looks like it's going to be the biggest issue yet, which means we'll hopefully be able to afford to print it somehow. The super preliminary list of bands to be featured is as follows: Life At These Speeds Russian Circles Tristeza The Drift Envy Bouncing Souls This Will Destroy You ... and a couple more TBA.
There will also be a story on my trip to spend my 25th birthday at Warped Tour. Hopefully the portions of it that I remember will make for an interesting story. We'll see. There is a weekly bible study for band members on Warped this year. I'm crossing my fingers it lands on the day it's in Denver (which is a Sunday). Let's all pray that I can be there to witness that. I have to be in that sun-drenched tent to witness the definitive death of punk rock that will take place. I can't wait. Keep checking back for more details as they come in.

After a ridiculous flurry of procrastination, followed by the predictable flurry of catching up all at once, Issue #14 is finally done. Because of the other, numerous delays, we didn't end up switching printing plants. So, it's one more badly printed, newsprint issue.
There are three flavors to choose from in the digital version:
Small (5 mb)
Medium (10 mb)
Large (25 mb)
The smallest version is fairly blurry, and the medium version is way less blurry. The large version is printable, but pretty huge, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you are planning on printing out all, or a portion of the issue...
