i'm already blogging this on another site called Tj Tuning, but thought i'd post it up here :)

With the girlfriend leaving me on Sunday, my parents said i need a new hobby. After standing in thought for 5 seconds i said to my dad, "i wouldn't mind doing bantam racing." My dad looked at me, and said ok

So i get home from work last night and sit down on the couch, and my dad said to me "still interested in this bantam idea?" i said "yeah why" Dad replied, "you can pick it up on monday"

So on monday i now have the start of a long bantam project, getting it ready for racing

it's all there apart from the yokes and forks  but i'm going to go with tz 125 forks as you can't have modern USD forks.

Still debating whether to build it to 125cc or 175cc.
At college at the moment, so i'm looking for parts on ebay

Box of Bantam bits

I know it doesn't look like much, but it's a start. A few months and it will be ready for racing

04/07/2009

I finally got round to stripping the engine this week, bout an hour and a bit (mostly spent finding imperial measurement spanners and sockets) but it's all ready to rebuild after i go to Lydden on the 2nd of august. Got invited by some of the riders so i can get an idea of what they're running, as racing wont start untill 12 due to local bylaws, so i have a 3 hour question time

03/08/2009

well it's been a rather productive afternoon. cleaning and polishing the rear wheel didnt exactly go to plan. all the chrome is chipped on the rim, but the brake carrier is all spick and span. might even touch that up with some paint. the front wheel rim didnt look as damaged, so i polished the rim on that, and my dad said he will help me switch the rims over next week. My dad has also given me a set of rd350 powervalve forks, yokes, and the wheel spindle, so i have almost a complete front end  next job is to rub the frame down for powder coating

outside rim cleaned, insides too damaged

ok, so the wheel turned up, and it actually fits onto the powervalve spindle :D also, it looks like it may in fact take an Rs disc (y) heading down the workshop later to spray the caliper :) neon orange all the way :D

11/08/09

pics of the caliper, got the first 2 layers of orange on today, will finish tomorrow

27/08/09

caliper's all lacquered and ready (just needs pads) and i'm in the process of buying a complete front end off of Tony Davis from his old bantam, just got to talk to him and arrange a date to pick it up.

04/09/09

bought the front end and brembo master cylinder  suzuki forks, custom 17inch wheel (better tyre choice) old suzuki brake caliper, yokes, and clip ons

next plan is to mock up the chassis so we can position footrests etc and finally have a rolling chassis. Going to phone up brian white about the engine work, so that'll save a bit of time and a lot of money  from there i can tune it to suit my needs :)

Current mood:  amused

just a brief little blog about the Falklands memorial competition:

overview

falklands is a competition which remembers the the falklands war between us and the argentinians.

The Competition

being a sqn that always looks for extra marks we arrived on saturday night at around 22:30 pm. We set up camp on the airfield and were ready at 00:10pm.

day 1

here is a list of events and times

09.00 - 09.30       missile race         (basically get the missile through the course without to many penaltys)

10.00 - 10.30       shooting              (target practice with a number 8 rifle)

11.00 - 11.30       kit check

11.30 - 12.00      Map reading          ( testing your ability 2 read a map)

12.00 - 12.30      bearings                 ( testing your ability to use a compass)

12.30 - 13.00      lunch

13.30 - 14.00      leadership excercise     (a given scenario with no answer!!!)

14.30 - 15.00      log race                        ( a 30kg log carried a mile by two people)

15.30 - 16.00      1st aid                          ( tests your 1st aid ability)

its was all good up untill the log race, the cpl from the army pushed us too hard in the warm up, jamie hindshaw was sick, and i got taken away in an ambulance coz i had an asthma attack! its a bit ironic because i was the group's head 1st aider and i got taken out b4 the 1st aid!

day 2

the nav ex! perhaps the most important bit of the whole competition. first we got our kit wieghed. mine was the lightest so i swapped it with sam bottril's who's pack wieghed 17kg! so we set out at 9.30am on our 16km walk. we passed every checkpoint early, which meant we could have an extended lunch at checkpoint 5. we got back to base at 15.20pm and started taking down the tents for the winners parade.

highlights

the whole competition was a complete laugh all the way! we all had an outdoor party on saturday night leavin the staff to get wasted in a cabin! we all made new friends with 1312(southend) b team. we got to know eachother a lot better, and just generally enjoyed ourselves! i coulodnt have picked a better team myself!

Worst bit

it has to be said! on saturday morning i called a warrant officer a seargant, which is like asking to be shot, i tripped over the guide ropes to our tents, AND, i completely embarressed myself when i got taken away in the ambulance!

overall

i enjoyed it 100% and i would definatley do it again nxt year!

to every1 who went u r all stars!!!!!!!!

well yet another blog entry from me about falkands competition training 2006/2007!

last night was a team building excercise

as usual we started off with a jog to the bmx track just past the woods and split into teams (alpha, bravo, charlie, and delta) i was in charlie for this excercise along with cpl foss, and cadets kemp, white, and prike. the idea was that one team advanced about 25 yards across the field, and then dived onto the ground, whilst giving commands to the other team to advance 25 yards infron of them, and so on. after that little excercise, we we all covered head to toe in mud and water. we continued to the bmx track and commando crawled over it. after getting on top of the actual hill at the bmx track we all slid down it one by one apart from cdt weeks who took his jacket and shirt off and slid down head first!

once again a great training night!

Current mood:knakered

hi peeps, just got in from cadets. 2nite we done 1 5mile run and then anyone else hu felt like it could then do a harder one afterwards. so me and bout half the squadron set off into the pitch black and started our own intense training for the falklands. this started off with a jog through the woods to get to a field where we continued our warm up with stretches followed by one lap round the field. after the warm up we jogged to the river and one by one slipped into it. the idea was to be the fastest group round the course or you lose. on my team i had, dan salway, myself, dan greaves, chris k.w, and an injured jamie hindshaw. we came 1minute 60  and came 2nd out of 3 teams of five. As penalty for failing, we walked down to where the river formed into a ditch and had to stand next to eachother and jump in at the same time! we thenhad to run down the ditch and get out. then we had a quick warm down. then we marched back to the squadron and were dismissed

overall i would say a good night

Current mood:  happy

first of all for those of u that dont no...falklands is a millitary run competition which puts the best againts the best. it involves target shooting, speed march, navigation (4hours in the middle of nowhere) and other activities.

this year we have started training early to make sure we win! tonight, we set off as a whole squadron (group) and carried our army surplus stretcher loaded with tyres and wood. we yomped about 3 miles untill we reached a clearing and done 20 press ups and sit ups. then we had the stretcher race from one end the clearin to the other, a good 800 metres at least. unfortuneatley my group, lightning flight came second with a time of 47.2 seconds, being beaten by about half a second! it was good fun and of course we all wrecked our uniform in the knee deep mud puddles on the way there and back!
