Omnia Opera new songs..listen here...New tunes..

Winter Solstice 21 Dec 2009

An exultant happy solstice from Omnia Opera to you all, to celebrate we are releasing unto the world two new musical creations for your aural pleasure from our forthcoming album. As a way of thanking you for your patience we duly make these so...ngs free to download and distribute as you see fit. Listen and download these tunes using the links at the bottom of this article.

It’s been a long time coming but here at last after many years are some new sonic alchemy in the expected Omnia style for your aural digestion. These two taster songs offer up the opportunity to hear Omnia at full throttle with the song ‘Big Brother’, a song that has only ever been played live before. And also a chance to resonate on an instrumental laid back frequency with the hyper mellow ‘Leaning Backwards’

...enjoy!

Your feedback on the new tunes will as always be gladly accepted here in Omnia land so please do pass on your comments. Happy Solstice one and all...Go Beyond!

Hi all fellow space travellers and folk beyond the tenth.

Summer has once more wound its weary way into the cycle of seasons, the leaves are falling and I thought it high time for an update.

Firstly the astute among us will note that our Malvern gig planned for November has been cancelled. Well, more "put on hold" if truth be known. We've not had much luck with gigs outside the festival scene. Firstly the Sonic Harvest appearance was cancelled due to matters beyond our control and the Malvern November gig went the same way.

The plan was to do a double headliner with Earthlab and various "double headliner" gigs are indeed planned for next year. This one really was a series of events outside the bands control ( a usual cliche but very relevant in this case). We at first hoped to rearrange it, but with the Xmas period and various other committments it may be the New Year now.

Watch the new Omnia Opera web portal for more details. http://www.omniaopera.co.uk/

On a more positive note, the band managed to escape to the really remotest parts of Wales to retry & redevelop the many recordings. This was a resounding success. Not only have the new songs been reworked, repackaged and redeveloped, but there are over two hours of new "live" material to work through. The results of this will be hours of more work created for overdubs, mixing, cleaning up etc.

Believe me, the new CD is progressing and has moved onwards in leaps and bounds from the relative stagnation and apathy of the last 2 years. Some previews will be available in digital downloads very soon (ah but what is "soon" in Omnialand? - a great question).

Have a great autumn folks and see you all around. Next summer "will" be a productive one for gigs and material, that I can promise.

Go beyond.

Hello multiverse,

Happy Solstice to everyone. I "think" that I/we are back in this universe after a trip into the ether beyond the tenth.....namely the start of the festival season.

It started off with the really nice Pyramid Party in Malvern. This used to be an annual event in someones back garden and has snowballed after a few years absence into a 3 day event. Due to committments outside the band we had a whole one days rehearsal and it was compounded by the fact that Alf couldn't make it due to work and Caitlin couldn't due to a bizarre home accident whereby she broke her ribs. This was pretty much akin to early festival days whereby whoever turned up got to play.

Often the unrehearsed spontaneous things work best when you just let things flow and see where it takes you. The collapse onto the keyboards after bashing my head on the side of the pyramid at the end was maybe a little too unrehearsed.....I knew that my various hats should come in useful one day....a great gig with amazing work by the PA & lighting guys considering the small size of the event and all done voluntarily for love not money - hats off to them all (and to Tucker from the FJM for lending Andy his bass at the last minute)

Onto the Sonic Rock Solstice in Wales and what can I say? Great hospitality, an amazing venue, very cool PA guys and absolutely wonderful people, bands and punters alike. All together in a happy and enjoyable atmosphere - how a festival should be. Hats off to the Doc and all of his crew, too many to mention, for a wonderful event. Apologies to the Litmus gang for being embroiled in our rather over exuberant Solstice dawn celebrations (although at least I talked Plum out of doing the salutation to the sun from the top of my van..). Here's to many more Sonic Rock events.

Again we had our challenges. Alf was rushed to hospital 10 days before and it was touch and go whether he'd be able to play at all. In the end he made it in time for the Earthlab set and even got a guest slot with the Hawklords. All things happen for a reason and every cloud has a silver lining:)

The "space vicar" has noted the requests for a return appearance at some point (as his cassock took out the keyboard DI box last year he has been limited in appearances)....anyway onto recording now. We had a plethora of requests for new CDs and they are duly noted. We promise to get something out by the end of summer even if it is a "taster".

More news in autumn when there may be a few special events ;) Until then have a great summer and enjoy the festivals.

A quick update for all with the festival season around the corner. Omnia Opera start the summer with a Friday night slot at the Pyramid Party in Malvern. This is a small low key informal local event for and with just about every band in Malvern. We are headlining this Friday night 22nd - please check the website for details on how to apply and get directions http://www.pyramid-party.co.uk/index.html

With the plasma warmed up and fluid after the long winter/spring, we then hope to fine tune the show for Sonic Rock Solstice where we are playing at around 10pm on the Friday night on June 19th.

Sadly we've just heard that our Friday night slot at the Sonic Harvest gig planned for Sheffield in September has been cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances encountered by the promoter. There are still good bands playing on the Saturday night and that will be going ahead as planned.

We hope to have some more shows over the summer and will let you know as and when we hear about them. Recording has continued and some of the new tracks will be heard at Sonic Rock (with some old favourites). Some previews on myspace are planned very soon.

The new revamped Omnia website is almost complete. We've been user testing it and thanks to the folk that we mailed for their valued feedback and input to the trial site. We just have a few (Many) typos to sort out and the plasma will be launched.

See you over summer, where I hope that the element of fire holds sway over water.

Always go beyond.

Hi multiverse,

It's been a while since we've updated (Including ourselves), so here is the current scene in Omnialand.

Played two contrasting but equally good gigs in Nov/Dec. One was an "old style" show in that you take a warehouse in Brum (Green St) get 3 psych bands and a load of cool folk wanting to party all night and see what comes out. Then we had the honour of supporting the Masters of the Universe, Hawkwind at Wolverhampton Wulfrun. Both really good gigs and well attended, even if it was the start of an amazingly cold winter for once (that has lumbered on since).

As the big freeze hit, we took the opportunity (after the obligatory Yule/Winter Solstice break) to review what had been recorded to date. Recording had been slower than anticipated due to time, resources, logistical contraints etc. Things are ever slow in Omnialand. However, we were pleasantly surprised to realise that we had 2 hours of material at various stages of recording, from near completion to mere "ideas" in demo form.

We've been trying out some of these during our live shows and fine tuning them. For the next few months we hope to complete at least a few tracks to give everyone a "taster" of what is to come. So recording takes precedence over spring and we hope to do a few gigs over summer/autumn to present the results. Starting with the Sonic Rock Solstice on June 19th - details on our gig list with a whole bunch of great bands to boot.

Anyone who's been puzzled at the lack of updates on our website - the mystery is now solved. We've had a plan to redesign this for some time and include heaps of archived material, unreleased photos, clips etc and this project is now well underway. More later. T shirts are still available from our website or mail us here.

Andy, Ade (our old keyboardist) & Rob are still working on remastering the original tapes onto digital. Beyond the Tenth is done and they are just tidying up Celebrate for Change for all of those collectors with long stretched and warped cassettes (like mine).

Andy, me and a few other guests helped Ade on his recent solo CD project as Helicles Fold. More details from his myspace (on our friends) or his website. Omnia hope to rework one of his songs and him one of ours in a "swap" project.

So busy busy - have a great spring folks and see you in the warmth (or wet or....ice? cometstorm? frog shower?) of summer. Always go beyond.

First Official new tune from "Omnia Opera" in 15 years.

Given to the world .

We decided to start off on familiar territory to ease ourselves back into the world of recording. We're pretty happy with the results, "Space Bastard" has always contained a lot of energy and scope for flying about in a sonic landscape. In the increasingly measured and dawdling pace that has become all to common in Omnialand this is hopefully just a taste of what is brewing on the Omnia stove. We feel that this rendition of Space Bastard is a worthy advisory to the hardened ears of all omniaphiles. It is also believed here in Omnialand that it is just the tip of a mighty iceberg of new Omnia material which is slowly manifesting under the Omnia blanket weed. Enjoy and send us your feedback ..go beyond.

NOTE* The song has been compressed rather a lot as it is 12 minutes long and may well suffer form some loss of sound quality but its Still OK for decent listening too.

Omnia were approached by fellow musicnaughts politicide to donate this track to their forthcoming compilation CD. All profits going to the "SPEAK" animal rights campaign.

Ok so having firmly established ourselves in the here and now with a run of  live shows, Omnia Opera are now about to immerse  themselves into a bunker  to record some music. The plan is to concentrate on this task over the autumn & early winter.  The hope is that at the end of it we will have a glittering  new  album to give to  the world. We are aiming high and want it to be an album that consists of everyones input and be as varied as possible while still  remaining true to the omnia feel, and so are going to be pulling all  the stops out. The new members of the band will be putting their hidious influence all over it and even we don't know what its going to turn out like. Suffice to say we already have some work in progress and feel its gonna be a true Omnia Opera freak out, psyche, acid  rock journey with all the usual ingredients that  make up an Omnia recording.. . So watch this space

In the meantime we are calling a halt to all gigs unless something amazing drops in our laps that we can't refuse to  play. Onwards  & Upwards

Monday, July 23, 2007
Well a huge thank you again to Vinny, the organisers of Eastern Haze, and especially Simon the "Fiddler" of Litmus who really did save the day for us. The tale unfolds...

There we were in Worcestershire and the West Midlands on Friday; an area recently renowned for it's propensity for being underwater. We had thought of hiring one van for the gig, but the logistics of members scattered over 4 different areas, costs of hire, work, etc meant that we went for seperate vehicles. In the end it was probably a wise choice, else we would have waited for the last member and probably all of us would have failed to make the 200+ miles to the east. After getting to the gig first, I swiftly realised how serious the weather was and the lessening likelihood of the rest actually getting out of the Midlands; let alone getting across to the east.

By late Friday most of us had got there with torrid tales of travel too long to relate; our drummer Neil literally just getting through. Sadly, Rob our guitarist was turned back by a combination of emergency services and rising waters. By 11am on saturday, 2 hours before the gig, following calls to various people, and with ears pinned to the radio, it swiftly became obvious that most of our homeland had become an aquarium and/or a car park meaning that there was no way Rob could make it. Twas an epic just for us to make it, and we knew a number of fans had travelled a long way braving the elements to watch us too. A few suggestions were made (Mine of Alf taking over guitar and me keyboards being swiftly quashed). Amidst the gloom, Andy and I started getting rather excited - this was akin to the early festival days of the 1980's whereby bands would often swap members or form a congolomerate based on who would turn up at the time. Indeed, we'd often joked about such a scenario.

Originally the intention was to approach someone to do a 30 minute jam, and we thought of the perfect person. Enter Simon of Litmus to save the day. After a brief intense rehearsal (2 hours) we quickly realised that not only was he the man for the job, but we could cover the full 50 minute slot with our normal set. The girls and I warned the rest that we may ad lib and go OTT to give it that "jam" feel. My brief to the rest was "relax, let go, and enjoy it" and we certainly did. It was unique, excellent, and great fun was had. It went down well with the audience too (who were warned what may ensue). Congrats to all involved (including Chris Cambridge who covered 2 songs and who I think broke the record for guest starring on stages at a festival)

It was helped by the fact that in our last rehearsal we felt that finally we were approaching the level we had prior to the split up 12 years before. However, Simon's guitar took it to another angle, and twas a great gig (the weather was sunny too). We had some great parties, met Arthur Brown god of hellfire at last!, met some great people from other bands (Hi Lee and Karen), photographers, magazine writers. and the festival crew, danced  by the PA to other bands all weekend, and a good campsite acoustic jam ended the weekend (although Andy's kookaburra impression sounding like several ships fog horns through a giant stack of amps went down much better cheering other bands than blasting in my ear around the campfire at 3.20am).

Amazingly I made it back across the River Severn too (just)!

That's the festivals over for us for 2007 (as a band not as visiting individuals), as we are off to record some new stuff (including revitalising some older stuff that never made it to CD).

We'll keep you posted and photo links to follow.

We've now had chance to go through the photos and credit them accordingly. We've allocated a symbol for each photographer to save on dialogue space.

These are as follows: -

* Mel Price
% Moggy Morris
^ Peppermint Iguana Photographer (See them at http://www.peppermintiguana.co.uk/)

We are still looking through the old photographs and will add to these credits in due course. Some photographers have their name credited directly on the photo. Others - well we've forgotten who took them, as they are from the dark and misty past. ( One person wrote to say he took the one in Milton Keynes Wood...now if only I could remember who that was?)

Enjoy and go beyond,
Andy J & Capt B
