Some of you observant folk here in internet land may have noticed that we have taken all of our old songs down off of our page.... and replaced them with two brand new ones, (ya see, there was method to our madness) and for anybody who didnt notice..... we have recently taken our old songs down, and replaced them with some new ones

Firstly, anyone who has noticed and listened to the songs, thanks very much for casting your ear over them, and it was great to hear some of your thoughts on the new tracks. Its allways great to hear peoples opinions on our new material! For those of you who havnt yet listened to the new songs, please if you do get some time do give em a quick whirl and let us know what you think of em!

In other news 2009 has gotten off to a surprisingly busy start for us, I mean weather wise it has been Hot and Then Cold, some people have said yes and some people have said no as reguard to us perhaps doing a cover song, and weve been in and then out of the recording studio, which is allways a pleasure!

We have played a few gigs too which thankfully more and more of yas are coming too, but we have spent most of our time writing and rehearsing newer songs, and trying to lose any of our "excess baggage" we seemed to acquire over the christmas break, way to much food and drink really kinda makes skinny jeans that more of a challange if ya get what Im saying.

Aswell as the obvious gigs and such we  are aiming to get into the studio and record some of our newer songs and finally release that ep we have been mentioning for ages now.... we still dont have a confirmed track listing, but the new Surrender to Silence will definatly be present and joining it will be some more of our newer songs... we have allready set the wheels in motion recording wise on a few of em, so we just have to keep the momentum and stay on course!

In the meantime expect more news from Lane Land.... as we finish recordings we will put them up here for your listening pleasure. We may even get some live videos done aswell, once we can trick or bribe someone into lending us a camera or two, so we can shoot fancy angles, and maybe even get some crazy John Woo esque things going on, and perhaps even some terrible overdubbing, as we have been watching alot of Bruce Lee Movies and they have inspired us a bit, we really are digging all things retro these days......

Ok, well thats it for now...

Do Give the new tracks a listen too if you can, and please voice your opinions on em, and you can choose the method and volume of your voicings

I just noticed that its been a long time since our last post, thought I'd update this so i can remember it in the months and years to come (if you know me you know how bad my memory is...)
B-) here, just been talking to the Bam about our upcoming gig in the button factory/ TBMC. we've come some way from where we were at the start of 2008. here is as good a place as any to thank our new Matt Laniac, Andrew, who has joined the team as our live sound engineer. By all accounts he did a fantastic job last week in Dorans, and he gets rewarded by being thrown at one of the biggest venues in Dublin very soon. At it, there will be dancing, blue Neon, and maybe even a drink or two.
Over the last year/ 19 gigs we have always asked in our own charming way if people will come out and support us. whenever you could, you did (much thanks for that again!!). On the 27th of Jan, we have a lineup including one of our favourite bands, (also luckily for us, good friends) the Neon Stars. Included to that reason to have a night out, is that it is a great venue, and it is being put on for us by the kind folks at gigsmart. As per their top quality way of doing things, they will be recording the gig, for everyone to have a copy if they want one.

Its times like this that being in a band makes you smile. A lot.

thanks for reading my ramblings-
Brien

The guys over at pulse have held the last recording session, and gotten a very good 95% mix done, we've a little bit of tweaking to do, and then mastering, and a bit of packaging and our single is good to go.

In the mean time, they're provided us with this podcast, which features a little bit of footage of us recording and another incredible cringe-worthy interview, which seems to be our style, it seems we don't like to answer questions if we can't make people uncomfortable along the way, (honesty we do not do heroin, and we appologise for letting brien do any talking), anyway.

Thanks to Dave Carroll for the Video production, Thanks to tini pics for the pictures and thanks to Steo for two scoops.

Hello Everyone!

I have to point out that as Im writing this I am suffering with a post gig induced hangover, yet I really do feel inspired to write a new blog so I will persevere, and fight through the agony! >_<

Last Night, for anyone who came.... We played The Hub in Temple Bar, which thanks to Trev Radiator is now seen as a temple or perhaps even a utopia of Indie and Electro music, and we were delighted to finally get a chance to play there, as we have seen some of our favorite bands play there over the years.... like the Delorentos, The Young Knives, Franz Ferdinand, The Editors and so on, so It was actually one of the venues where we knew from day one that we wanted to play, and last night we finally got the chance, and loved it!

The Line Up, I really have to say was the best line up we have ever played with which made the night so much better, and all bands that played last night were truly on top form aswell, its great to see bands play with feeling and look like they mean every note of every single song, cause it sure as hell felt that way for us when we were playing.

Anyway, a bit about the bands:

The Neon Stars who were headlining and asked us to support, as allways were amazing, despite amps exploding they still played a stormer.... I really cant explain how much we love those guys without getting horriffically filthy and going into explicit detail.... they are great band, catchy songs, great melodies, and an amazing live band, I really don't think Ive ever seen someone sweat that much before Gav you might wanna get that checked out, they gave it their all.... we love em... in their faces, with our faces.. absolute heros! I cant wait to share a stage with them again.... heros... check em out!! They are gona be recording an EP soon..actually, its what last night was in aid of as recording costs top dollar.... but we were delighted to help out, all I want is a free ep lads... please :-) I know the term next big thing is waved around alot these days, but smart money would be on those lads

These guys don't even need an introduction The Chapman Society who are a great band... some of the catchiest songs I have ever heard, and they are very close friends of ours, and we love em, releasing an album called Grenade soon which I cant wait to get my hands on, it was their first gig for a while, as they were taking time out too record and plan world domination amongst other things... but as allways they were fantastic, and I was delighted to get too see em playing again.... love them guys so much, and their song Heartbreak allways brings a tear to my eye..... makes ya really wanna hold someone, and last years single Blood Red Room... as allways is savage, absolute legends they are...

Even though we were on pretty early, there was a really big crowd there which was fantastic... a real testament to the other bands playing as they all drew a crowd, and we seemed to go down really well... so thanks to everyone for coming out and watching us sweat like pigs, on possibly the warmest stage on earth.... was like a sauna, but it was also like heaven!! Really was a great gig for us, we really did enjoy it!

I honestly have to say, last night made me realise how much I fucking love being in a band, playing with 2 of our favorite bands, and just having a savage night... The Neons and the Chapmans as I allways say are savage, and are great close friends of ours.... it was like a musical family reunion for us! I mean being in a band is great, its loads of hard work, but really, its gigs like last night which make it all worthwhile.... the only regret I have now is that it was last night.... Id do the exact same tonight If I could

And even when the bands were finished playing Trev Radiator got up and spun one of the best DJ sets ever... the man is a genius... Indie Heaven the hub is, Indie Heaven.... I really don't think I have ever danced so much in my life (I really was drunk) and the hundreds of Glowsticks the Neon Stars brought were put to great use

Thankfully Trev has asked us back to play on the 16th of May to support The Dirty Epics with who are great, they have some great songs, particularly their single The Cure, I really liked that when it was released, So we cant wait for that and hope too see yas there.... I mean I really have ranted alot here, so If ya have the time to read all of that, you definatly have the time to come see us play >_<

Ok, as much as I wanna continue on about how much I love the Neons and The Chapmans I really should stop...

We should have more news soon.... maybe about a single, and maybe about a tour, and maybe even about shooting some low budget pornography, and most definatly about more gigs

For anyone interested I'm gonna rant have a little rant about the venue we played in on friday, If your from dublin, and into the heavier side of music, then by all means you'll know fibbers. And this is the venue where two very indie bands decided to join Rifle fire rifle on a Friday night.

When we first arrived with our gear, the first band to arrive we stood out like sore thumbs. Leather waist coats being more acceptable then a white polo shirt. Slayer was playing, then some metallica, then some scream based metal band, heavy on the double kick which i had no idea who it was - even considering myself to have a wide taste in music and to have friends who listen to metal. After a while the more aggressive or more metal looking metallers left, and we were treated to a bit of the who and the kinks over the PA, which i relished. mmmmm, can't beat the who. Apparently you can because the crowd were seriously displeased at the who - on a cd - for three minutes. how can you be in a state of mind where you can boo a cd at a three minute rock song.

At this point, i knew that neither us nor the neon stars would be that well recieved. when it came to sound check i thought there was gonna be fights, people were really displeased, i got booed while singing alone to soundcheck my mike. really, come on.

As gav from the neon's put it, if there was gonna be a ruckus, there would be bits of topman flying everywhere.

All in all the actual gig was uneventful, those in scarfs or skinny jeans, enjoyed the gig, and anyone in leather stared daggers, but there was enough of a crowd for the neon stars and us for there not to be bottles thrown at the stage, so it was alright.

I was a bit surprised at how many of our friends and that wouldn't come out because it was fibbers, and because of fibbers reputation, but our next gig is in the hub, so i think people will be more than happy to venture in there.

All in all i think this was probably a pointless writing exercise, i should have just said what joe neon said. its like a whore with a bad back. we're not going down easy.

i just put up one of the songs we’ve been playing live for a while, it’s not a perfect recording, we consider it preproduction, as in working on the song arrangement and parts in preparation for recording it again in greater detail later on.

its one of the songs that we intend to use as part of the EP for later on in the year, probably along with Matt is murder, and we own tonight, and another song yet to be determined.

i was actually half hesitant about putting it up here, because of the joy division reference which we still have to legally obtain before we can release it properly later on in the year. It’s a song we love so we’re gonna definitely put in the effort to get it sorted.

in other news we’re doing the final recording session for the single tomorrow, and have a mixing day organized in may, after which we’ll be getting it mastered and then setting ourselves up for a release. We’ve also been trying out a few people to act as a fourth member in the band with varying results. Some people have been fantastic and had a great attitude and ability and others, well, less so. hopefully again the time of the single we’ll have sorted it all out and have a definitive line up.

at the end of the world we’ll learn to dance

There’s a small change in details with the gig in Fibbers on the 11th of April, the Chapman society have unfortunately had to pull out of the gig due to unforeseeable circumstances and instead the equally amazing Neon stars will be taking their place on the night.

So even though the semantics have changed the night should still be an amazing line up, and a great night for tunes, drinks, and sweaty dancing, if not the crowd, i know at least i will.

In other news, we recorded the last guitar parts for our single and b side combo, surrender to silence / you never call, and all thats left for us to do is record vocals, and some mixing, though it is a while before we’re back in to record, so it will be around the end of may start of June when we’re done. not sure if we’ll do a big proper release, we’re looking into it, but we would love to do a big fiasco. but sure we’ll have more information on all that as the time arises.

as we know, so you know

Ever have one of those days where everything that can go wrong does go wrong?
ever have it on stage in front of your mates and a wedge of strangers, no? well thats exactly what happened to us on Saturday night at the gig in Rathmines.

Firstly Bambi made the mistake of packing a broken lead, and then using it, such that when he moved too much, goodbye guitar, which in some songs, where Bambi doesn’t play in verses and such, is fine, but its drastically noticeable when it happens just at the start of a chorus, and your big build up drops to a tiny tiny empty sound.

it’s not Bambi’s fault, but it is fiercely annoying, when stuff like that is going wrong.

then half way through the set Brien broke his snare drum, split the skin in two, so that all of a sudden the normal whack of a snare was replaced with a weedy "bok" sound. then in spite of four other drummers being there, no one would give us a loan of a snare and the gig organizer had to find one in a hurry, but this was taking ages so we just played through the next one with the busted snare and did a really quick change over of snares at the end of the song. Brien just launched the busted snare over the drum kit towards me, and i had to keep it on the volley to stop it rolling.

I thought with things against us like this, i was definitely gonna break a bass string, and even though i had brought a spare bass, i thought the luck was so bad that i’d break a string on that spare too. Though i got luck and nothing of mine broke, i instead just sweated like a pig while half blind from two exceedingly bright stage lights on the ground blaring up into my face.

Aside from that/these things the gig went quite well, with us premiering three new songs, and people were digging it, unfortunately when i tried to dedicate one of the songs to my girlfriend, my good mate Russell, from the chapmans started roaring abuse up at me about how i must be gay "dedicating a song to your bird". It’s all in good fun though, but next time he’s on stage dedicating heartbreak to his girlfriend, I’m just gonna absolutely rip the piss out of him.

Anyway childish revenge hopes aside, i enjoyed the gig and i enjoyed the night, the venue was a bit out of the way but loads of people still made the trek out which was cool. It’s fibbers up next, in a fortnight, and I’m really looking forward to it, hopefully there’ll be no "technical difficulties" and it should be great, plus as a Friday night, there’ll definitely be drinking afterwards.

For those who have been keeping a read of the blogs aw we’ve been throwing them up, you probably know already that we’re in the process of recording a single and b-side, we’re about 70% complete at the moment, and the team that are recording us are in the process of putting together a video podcast with us too, documenting the process of recording and the messing that goes on.

We are going to be releasing short video segments of the podcast soon, little video’s of us recording our parts and talking about our instruments.

We’ve been busy gigging recently, but have a bit of a rest now with only two gigs or so in the next month, and as always we’d love to see anyone from here, out in the real world at a gig. We’re particularly looking forward to the gig in fibbers with rifle fire rifle who are about to embark on a UK tour. the gig is also with our very close friends and a most amazing band, the Chapman society, who if any of you know of them, are due to be releasing a second single soon and an album towards the end of the summer, which if you’ve seen them live or even just heard them over on their page, your probably looking forward to it as much as we are.

In the last week we’ve been beavering away writing new songs, with three new ones being added to our set, which we are very excited about, we had slowed off on the song writing but after getting very positive feedback on the newest song to join the setlist (Matt is murder) while playing out live it gave us a new surge of inspiration, and made the new songs come together amazingly quickly from renewed enthusiasm.

We have been in talks with a producer about putting together an ep, which we’ll be looking to do in august with a september release, with four songs from our live setlist, unless something new really sticks out, and we decide to keep it aside for the surprise element.

We’re also on the lookout for gigs outside of dublin, as we’ve heard very good things about gigs in galway, limerick, waterford, belfast, and dundalk. So these are on the list of places we’re going to try get down to, in the coming months, and we’re also looking to do a few gigs across the pond in liverpool, manchester, edinburgh and probably london too, at some stage during the summer.

god that was long, but on a lighter note, if your irish, into music and perhaps are on the lookout for bands you might not have heard of, the kinetiks new single is great, we really enjoyed it, and concerto for constantine are an amazing live band who if you get a chance you should try and go see, the neon stars are pure legends, see them or miss out on a great gig/night/experience and of course one of our favourite irish bands the delorentos are always ones to keep an eye out for.

We own tonight

The Last Few Weeks have been madness for us, the good kind of madness that is, not the bad kind that could lead u to one of those padded cells that look like so much fun!

Well, that is beside the point, in the past few weeks we have played a good few gigs, but the stand out one for us was The Button Factory gig organised by Gigsmart which is basically a network set up by a group of musicians who aim to get underground bands seen and heard in some of the best venues in Dublin, and it really is a cause which is dear to our hearts, as some of our favorite Irish bands have played and developed under the Gigsmart Banner!

The Gig itself couldn't have went any better, although it was cut short cause time was a passing, we got to meet some great people, and watch other great bands play!
A massive shout out to one of my favorite bands at the moment Neon Stars who were fantastic on the night, and we had a great laugh with them after the show, and hopefully you will see us share a stage again together in the near future, give em a listen, you know u wanna!

As for the recording we have been doing, its actually not all that far from completion, as said before "Surrender To Silence" and "You Never Call" are the songs were working on in the studio, and id say both of em are about 60% completed, so hopefully we will have em to show y'all soon!

So once they are finished, we aim to kick into a higher gear and try push ourselves more, play more gigs and record as much as we can in between! So expect us to have a very busy Summer!

TTY All Soon!
