In a recent interview with Hotpress magazine Mik spoke about his respect for the late artist, who he refers to as “the best singer who ever sang on record”. Pyro, whose music was heavily influenced by Jackson, spoke eloquently about his respect for the singer, and his belief that his genius was never truly realised. “The thing about Michael Jackson was there was a complete fusion between form and content,” he says, “The calibre of his artistry I don’t think will be recognised for hundreds of years, even though he was perceived as being great in his time: the levels of his achievement in terms of what he did with his dancing, his singing – but also as a songwriter and musician and producer. “I would have loved to have heard him working with Timbaland or someone of that calibre. That’s the real tragedy for me, I would have just loved to have heard him make an album with more intelligent, cutting-edge producers, ‘cos the only people you could compare him to in the 20th century were people like Louis Armstrong, James Brown, Miles Davis. He was far beyond Elvis.”

On February 27th, the Loose performed at a fundraising concert in aid of Barretstown.
Founded by actor Paul Newman, Barretstown is a specially-designed camp for children with serious illnesses - primarily cancer and serious blood diseases - from Ireland, Britain and throughout Europe, and their families. The camp provides a unique programme of adventure, activities and fun – backed by the medical world - which helps children with serious illness regain their confidence and self-esteem and has become internationally recognised as having a profound and positive impact on their lives. In what promises to be the first of its kind, The Willowstone Festival will feature a full-day of local and international artists, workshops and fun events for all ages set to a backdrop of music from some of the best bands performing today. Fresh from their Meteor Music Award nominations and the release of a new single, Republic Of Loose will headline the main stage on the day. Billed as ‘the best band in Ireland’ the ‘Loose will be going on to support U2 after their Willowstone appearance and they lead an exciting line-up which comprises of top Northern Ireland bands Ed Zealous, Panama Kings, the NI Soul Troop and Heliopause. The Delamont Walled Garden will be transformed into an entertainment park for the Willowstone Festival as London based artist Francis Barking will dress the Garden with his unique art installations which double as interactive games and artist/inventor Paddy Bloomer will present his “Sacry-Go-Round” Funfair. The Festival coincides with the 10 year anniversary of the Strangford Millennium Stone and so Welig Crafts have sculpted a 5metre high replica of the Strangford Stone in the very centre of the Walled Garden. Everyone is welcome to take part in the game design, basket making and other workshops held by Welig Crafts along with the other artists taking part in the Festival. The inaugural Willowstone Arts and Music Festival offers the most fun day out in Northern Ireland this summer. Should the excitement become too much for anyone, the Hilden Brewing Company will be on hand to provide refreshments in their unique Teepee bar.
