Hey cats and kittens,

We were invited to be the guest band on Monday's Locals Only show on KXCI. We tracked about 9 songs completely live, interspersed with interviews with Mel Mason:

http://www.kxci.org/localsonly/podcast/podcast-10122009.mp3

And you should just check out KXCI - they're a great example of local radio done right. They're truly reflective of the Tucson community, lots of eclectic shows and great people to boot. Check out shows like Local's Only, The Home Stretch, Al Perry's Clambake, The Road Show, and Tempest Broog - either at 93.1 FM in Tucson or streaming at www.kxci.org.

It was a blast!

But best of all, it's free to download!

Current mood:psyched!
Hey cats and kittens,

Our good friend Valis at the Trip Inside This House blog is doing another compilation - a whole cd of songs called Trip Inside This House! We just put our contribution together this week and shipped it off to Valis by deadline (whew!) and we're pretty pleased with the results. Check it out yourself and let us know what you think!

This song was recorded at Chamber of Sounds studio in downtown Tucson.

We're moving!! That's right, we're leaving lala land and moving to that funky, hoppin yet down-to-earth desert town, Tucson, AZ in just a couple of weeks! We're super excited - especially because we'll be living in an actual *house* and turning it into our own recording studio. We're ready to break out of apartment living and make as much noise as we want!

But we have one last chance for the local angelenos to groove on with us. Here's the scoop as only phil can bring it:

So, as I know you're all die hard Modeens fans and can't stand the thought of never seeing the band again, we're going to suit up in our super-hero costumes for one last rockin performance at our favorite haunt, THE CINEMA BAR, this SUNDAY, 11/23! It's going to be an all day affair, starting at 3:30pm! If you're up for a BBQ, the grill will be fired up out back, so bring your meat or veggies or tofurkey and cook away!

But don't just come to see us - there's also gonna be a JAM - so bring yer guitar or whatever noisemaker you're into and hop onstage!

If you've never been, the CINEMA BAR is located at 3967 Sepulveda, Culver City, 90230

Please come down and help us rock the joint in this very special farewell performance!

First, if you like psychedelic rock from the sixties, Trip Inside This House is the blog for you! Curated by DJ Valis, TITH digs up old stuff you've never even heard about but will go gaga over!

And he's a big supporter of modern bands carrying on the torch, so he likes to interview musicians with all kinds of cool questions. One of his regular features is The Wayback Machine (remember Peabody and his boy??) every Monday. And he's featured two Modeens!

Jamie's also on their new Solstice Compilation!

oooowheee our last hoe-down was rip-roarin good time! but wait til you get a load of the next shindig:

THE SHIVAS
Hailing all the way from Vancouver Washington, this teenage garage-psych band will blow your mind with their creative & vintage mix of blues, percussive beats, eastern sounds and sheer psychedelic power. This is their only Westside performance - so don't miss it! Set time 11PM

The Shivas live at Rock-n-Roll Pizza

THE MODEENS

This edgy psychedelic-pop outfit combines the triple vocal attack of Jamie Laboz (guitar), Cristina Williams (bass) and Phil Williams (guitar) with Michael Medina on drums. Some songs have a garage-punk edge to them while others are epically ethereal and drenched in sweet feedback. Set time 10PM

Here's The Modeens at Psych-Circus II

LIQUID OWSLEY

Homemade modular synths, "borrowed" A/V equipment and unlikely noise generators propel this duo into the future by way of the past. Featuring Barry "Lord" Conley on his "OutofControl-atron" (read about him and his creations in Tape Op Issue 63) and Billy Stobo (from Stobo and ex-Golden Buddha) on a plethora of different atmospheres. Set time 9PM

Here's The OutofControl-atron in action

Visit Barry's band The Aliens

RAMEN EMPIRE

They describe their sound as "silver fish swimming", I'm not quite sure what the hell that means, but I know they're much more exciting than staring into a fishbowl. They're more like surreal noise-pop with a punk edge. Featuring members Craig Godfrey & JT Carstarphen and friends. Set time midnight

Visit The Ramen Empire's profile

This is going to be a very special evening featuring projections from Michael Allen and the way-out psych sounds of virtual DJ Valis (of Psychedelic Velveeta). Please come by and enjoy the night!
