Today we are on route to Knoxville.
Here is our progress so far, almost 858 miles since Ricci's house in Baton Rouge.

Picture from our back deck-

In this picture is our.... GPS antenna, XM antenna and some... 20 sided fuzzy dice, letting us do a saving throw against engine failure.

We booked our hotel outside of the Knoxville airport while in transit.

First, don't walk to this place-

As per Matt Diez advice, we ate dinner the the Charlie Vergos' Rendezvous, a classy rib joint with an entrance in a back ally.
After eating a healthy rib dinner we headed off to such attractions as Beale street, and some classy joints around Cooper and Young. Then after a night of drinking and cab riding, we pulled our pillows out of the fridge.
Tomorrow we depart for Knoxville to pickup our final team member Kuperman at the airport. Looks like a Sunday night in Knoxville might be not too much fun, at least so says Ask.Me.

Today we are on route to Memphis. I bring you this blog in the back seat. I'm about to vomit typing this, so I'll keep it short.
Pics we took at the Mississippi rest stop...

Not much time left before the start of the rally. We depart May 19th (Day -4) at 0600 to start the trip North. Our first destination will be Memphis to get our Elvis getups. We rendezvous with another team member the next day in Knoxville, TN. The team will have a celluar air card so we will be updating the blog daily.
Today I (Ricci) got back from Orlando on business and after a nice drooling nap got started on the car. Todays tasks...
Tint the back glass-

Clean up the car-

And of course, mount my laptop.

The ugly yellow thing is an old GPS antenna I had sitting around, so in theory, we will know exactly where we are when we get lost.
Last weekend we replaced the radiator and changed the oil.
Not much time left and not much left to do with the car except hope for the best on the long journey.

Yesterday and today we repaired the drivers and passenger windows so they actually go up and down. Turns out you need to drill holes in the door to get the motor out! How shitty is that.
While we had the kick ass velour door panels out, we decide to tint the windows! 20% all around-

So I got a case of the red ass with the car leaking oil all over my driveway so I decide to attack it today. I pulled off the intake manifold, valve covers, and fuel injectors.

That was quite a bit of work getting all that crap out. While I had everything out I went ahead and changed the plugs and wires.
Why did I take the fuel injectors out? Well in the interest of fuel economy I thought I should give the injectors a rebuild so we'll be burning the proper amount of fuel. I bought a kit off ebay which is all the o-rings, filters and caps I need to rebuild them. With my handy bucket of Varsol, I let them soak for a few hours then energized them one by one and blew compressed air backwards.

This wasn't really a hard task.

I also decided, what the hell, I'll paint the valve covers while I have them off. While I'm in the spirit of ricing out a grandma car. It actually looks really good all together.

I'm not quite done bolting the intake manifold and its million vacuum hoses back together, but when I finish that tomorrow I'll post a pic.

Since we have all this ebay money, why not start to rice out our car? Good idea. I'm on it.

By accident we discovered that our gas tank is leaking where the filler neck connects to the gas tank. I had noticed a slight gas smell when driving with a full tank, but I had thought it was a bad fuel pump connection.
Looking at the old gasket, I think I've solved the mystery of the petrol release.
Picture shows the old gasket on the left, obviously.

Whats next? Our car seems to have a very small oil hemorrhage, which I think is the valve cover gaskets. Its just enough to piss me off in my driveway.

No pictures today, but now we have proper brakes that don't shimmy. New calipers and brake lines, for really really cheap. Special thanks to our friends at Arabie Tires for turning the rotors.
