Current mood:  sad
We at Deathrock Magazine are sad to announce that Maila Nurmi (born Maila Elizabeth Syrjäniemi), famous for her portrayal as the iconic Vampira, has passed away. She was 86 years old and died peacefully in her sleep.

From Metroblog LA:
"Funeral arrangements are pending legal steps as Maila had no relatives. Her friends are trying to get her a spot at Hollywood Forever Cemetery and will likely plan some sort of hearse procession for her."

Known for her work throughout TV and film as Vampira, she made a true impact throughout the decades, and will be dearly missed.

The March Violets Homecoming Show

Saturday 8 Dec 2007

Leeds Metropolitan University

A very special one off gig, featuring '80's Leeds' dark/gothic/punk drum machine band, The March Violets.

Influenced by Gang Of 4, Bauhaus, Joy Division, The Pop Group and other notable post punk bands and championed by the likes of John Peel, the Violets found their own singular voice before imploding in '86.

Strewn amongst the wreckage were two classic indie hits, Snake Dance and Walk Into The Sun which still feature heavily in the darker dance clubs.

Simon [vox], Rosie [vox] and Tom [guitar] have decided to return to the source for this show only [and who knows, it could all implode again if they stretched it too far] but they have recorded their first new material in decades and will be hurling it out at the gig...along with the old favourites of course.

These new tracks are available to buy on limited edition CD from the band's myspace page but can only be collected at the gig itself.

Later this week the band will release an exclusive preview mix of new track, 'Better Looking,' on their myspace.

Doors 7pm

Also confirmed for this event are -

Chris Reed Unit - [ former frontman with Red Lorry, Yellow Lorry]
James Ray - exclusive one off guitar driven set
Salvation - reforming specially for this gig
Screaming Banshee Aircrew - upcoming duel vocal excitement

12pm - 3am

Aftershow party with guest DJ's from Leeds own Wendy House club night.

Buy your ticket at www.myspace.com/officialmarchviolets THEN tell your friends.

This is the cheapest online option and in addition fans can also purchase the new Violets CD at a discount along with their tickets.
