"Phew, from Sweden we have Agrimonia and this their debut contains five songs of 55 minutes, which is a mean feat. They contain members of Martyrdöd, Acursed, Dödsdömd and Atomvinter, but sound nothing like any of them.
I have to say that this is stunning and certainly shows that these guys have done time in so many good bands. The recording quality is second to none and all five songs are mature, earthy and dark. Lots of acoustic intros, that slowly build up into more heavier sound-scapes. Atmospheric like Neurosis, and I am sure plenty dark metal bands that I never heard.
I love the packaging, a cd mailer with screened artwork/text- really love that stuff.
This was sent to labels in hope of it being released, but going from their myspace page it seems the vinyl will be out soon."

What we have here is a regular super-group, consisting of members from Martyrdöd, Acursed, Illdåd, Dödsdömd and Atomvinter. That's some bad-ass namedropping, but Agrimonia sounds nothing like any of said bands, 'cause this is some raw metalized hardcore.
Acts like From Ashes Rise and Neurosis are sure to become comparisons for Agrimonia, but I don't think that'd be very fair. It might be easy just to brush them off as another band in the line of neocrust clones, but they surely manage to stand out of the crowd. The riffing for the opening track The unknown bury me sends strong old school black metal shivers down my spine. And while some stuff might reminisce of hardcore and crust, there's just as much doom metal and gloomy sludge to go with it, getting me thinking of Grief and bands of the sort. Some parts even remind me of Counterblast, and some of Dystopia, so there's a lot of versatility here.
Long instrumental passages of gloomy, moody music gets broken up into harsh sections of just brutal-as-hell growling, ending in some bone-shattering screams. And I had a hard time deciding whether it was a guy or gal doing the vocals, 'cause the growls are definitely deeper than women tend to do, but those shrieks felt like shrieks no man could do. So by accident (since I was so dumb that I hadn't thought of looking there for the answer) I got a glimpse of the line-up when I was gonna read the lyrics. And all hail Christina for her un-womanly growls!
Some extremely brutal and harsh music, set at a sludgy slow, and agonized the hell out of. I have a damn difficult time categorizing this, but it's a damn fine demo that I'm sure will please tons of metalheads and crusties alike. Five long, slow anthems of armageddon that comes in a screenprinted cardboard box.

It all started at Punk Illegal 3 a couple of weeks ago. I was discussing with some of my friends on what they thought abut the days line-up. And I asked them what Agrimonia was, since I had never heard em' before. All I got, from whoever I asked, was extremely positive comments. They sure were right! I stood there spellbound from the minute I entered the venue, and that special breath-catching magic seeps through the record. The music is hard to describe in a normal fashion, since the music is more like a musical journey (we're talking tracks up to 13 min. long), with diffrent encounters and parts. Spanning from highly melodic acoustic bridges and mood filled intros to dark apocalyptic parts with crushing distorted guitars contra screams of fear and agony. It's all about feelings, and it's amazing how many Agrimonia tends to dig up inside of you. The vocals are used very sparsely during the songs, but when used, they are there to amplify special parts. When the lyrics are combined with the music, as a whole, they turn out masterpieces. Ontop of all this, I have to give Christina credit for her amazing voice. Forthbringing some of the best and amazing guttural growls and sounds I've ever heard. All in all the band does a fantastic job weaving you into their musical masterpiece, and sets you off into an hours worth journey. I can't really find anything to nit pick on here, and to try and label the music would just be wrong. I've tried my best giving you an idea of the band, but a similar artist that do come in mind is Neurosis (with a twist). Give them a try even though you prefer tracks shorter than 2 minutes on a regular basis. You won't regret it!

This CD has been released as vinyl on Skuld Records as of July this year!
