Goodness it feels like it's been way too long. After the completion of 3 new covers, we've decided that the legends did things so much better than we could do, at least for the time being. In other words, we're happy to report that TMH can only expect to come out with new tunes in the near future, and the covers album will only come out when we see fit. Thanks again to all who submitted ideas, it's certainly not over and we'll gladly honor those recommendations.
After slaving on DP6 for a few months and doing some good ol' rotation
between the Rickenbacker 360-12, MIJ Jazzmaster and MIJ Strat, we've
felt that it's about time to let the good times roll and put out the
songs so locked up in our heads. The first of this is the new tune
"Death: Embracing the Beauty", which should point to where TMH is
heading. A tad better balanced in the mixes, more 12-string jangle
action, and louder tones (once they get mastered!). Although no
epiphany on paper, we're actually hungering to track new stuff like
never before, and you'll be the first to hear 'em right here as soon as
they emerge.

SEND YOUR REQUESTS NOW! Before we start tracking some all new tunes for a year end release, we've decided to add two more cover songs to the free download to be made available as soon as early September, and want your input! Just suggest what tunes of the past you'd like The Majestic High to cover, and we'll select the two that seem to make the most(or least!) sense to us. Cheesy '80s pop (and K-pop) counts, too! The final download will also include previously released tunes: Gee (소녀시대) The Cindi Lauper MedleyAlison (The Pixies) The Cutter (Echo and the Bunnymen) Have some fun with this one and please send us your requests ASAP...we might begin tracking within 2 weeks! Many thanks, and sincere apologies for the silence.

Current mood: mellow
Some have been curious as to our true identities, the coincidental rhyming of Andi and Cindi, and if we actually share the same tea mug. Although not all cannot be answered, we decided to write up a bio for the world to see, a tell-all of sorts minus the links, in case someone wants to randomly throw us up onto wikipedia...Now's your chance to learn something you probably didn't know about The Majestic High... Pax Majestica~
Seoul-based pop/shoegaze duo The Majestic High are made up of Andi (born Andreas Roselund, November 21, 1972 in San Gabriel, California) and Cindi (born Nakyung Kim, March 21, 1975 in Jeju-do, Korea). Andi and Cindi are married to each other.
Andi is of Swedish/Armenian ancestry and Cindi is Korean. They first met in Seoul in April 2000, and started making musical plans later that summer that eventually turned into The Majestic High.
Multi instrumentalist Andi was born and raised in San Gabriel, California, and came to Seoul in 1992 to study Korean, later entering and graduating from Yonsei University's School of Music Composition. In 2000 while a grad student studying Korean traditional music theory at Seoul National University, Andi came into a travel agency in the Mapo district of Seoul where former Jeju Island native Cindi was working as a travel agent. On a whim, Cindi gave Andi a card and a box of orange juice upon purchasing a round-trip ticket to Japan. They met two weeks later for tea and casually and discussed music, life and friendship in general.
Andi grew up listening almost exclusively to The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen, and The Cure during the 1980s, first learning guitar on his mother's 1935 Gibson L-00 while trying to imitate the playing style of Johnny Marr. He soon received a Yamaha FG420-12 for his 16th birthday, soon becoming enthralled by the guitar layering and harmonic density of dreampop/shoegazing bands such as Lush, Chapterhouse, and Pale Saints, and later shared these bands and others with Cindi, who had grown up in Korea listening to mostly Top-40 pop music. Early on in the first year of their friendship, Andi and Cindi talked about making "beautifully loud music to heighten senses and turn one's attention towards heavenly things", and in Spring 2000, a demo of the song Silverkiss was recorded on to four tracks of a Roland VS-880 in Andi's studio apartment. It wasn't until he moved into a larger studio later that year that new ideas and a general band sound started to be discussed, which included an underlying strong jangle-pop influence mixed with loud guitars, in addition to elements of traditional Korean and Celtic music topped off by layered male/female voices in the style of Slowdive.
In 2008, The Majestic High submitted See Her Fall to Japanese label Quince Records for the Asian Shoegazing compilation Half Dreaming, and are presently working on a EP of songs.

Current mood: productive
Thanks to so many who have written since "This is the Presence" was put up, we are quite overwhelmed with the kind words and support, and had no idea the tune would draw such emotion, especially since the low bitrate player makes the poor mix sound even worse!. Sure enough it passed the good old The Majestic High test(must still sound fresh after 100 listens), despite a harsh treble end on the vocals and cymbals. No worries, we're saving our pennies for proper mixing and mastering to be done later in the year.
And for that matter, Cindi and I are beginning to track tunes that were lost one fateful day in 2002 when huge amounts of data from our old Mac G4(hahah, 733mhz) left us forever. Among the seven tunes lost were the 9 minute epic "Robed in Splendour" and "Shepherd", probably the closest we're come to being a Slowdive cover band...n an Irish pub(!), complete with Uilleann pipes, bodhran, penny whistle, and the lovely kayagum...Just a side note, Cindi is the 77th descendant of the much forgotton Kaya Kingdom's own King Kim Suro(Kimhae family line) of 5th century Korea, from which the kayagum originated...We've come full circle. At any rate, the only surviving data from the 2002 loss is the odd 2nd verse of "Shepherd" (bears no melodic resemblance to the 1st verse), so we're gonna try to rework a new arrangement around it and see what happens.
We're pretty excited about it all, and are hoping to have enough money saved up to press a 7-song EP by January or so, possibly titled "Sound and Silence". More to come as the tunes are finished, please check back in a few months!
Peace as always,
Andi

In the original "34 things a band should never do", it is listed that a band should never "name a song after their band", let alone name their band after anyone's song. Good 'nuff, THE MAJESTIC HIGH is but a lyric in the first (unreleased) song we did back in 2001, and will never make a title.
However, THIS IS THE PRESENCE is a theme that will run throughout all we do, although there is much work to be done. Another mix, lyric rewriting, and layers of vox that have yet to be tracked. Why don't we ever have enough time? Where are all of these tunes you speak of? I hope to answer many of these questions in upcoming months, so please stick around. It's gonna take a while, but there will be much to look forward to.
Happy summer, we're missing dry California skies every moment of the day.

Thanks to everyone who's dropped by over the past several months. CIndi and I have been busy attending to health issues and simple career changes, which means that there's no more excuse for not finishes a few more tracks!
The noisiest and most beautiful stuff is yet to come, and the tunes have matured well in our heads like blocks of quality cheddar, already to explode into what they were always born to be. Please stay tuned, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" will be a standalone remake, and the pinnacle of our philosophy, "This is the Presence", will be done right after....After we score a cheap 12-stringer again to put the jingle back in the jangle, where it always belonged.
We're heading back to Jeju Island in a few weeks to see the family and go to another wedding(Cindi's parents have at least 7 sibilings each, resulting in cousins galore!). Hopefully we'll have time to breathe some real air again and get a proper majestic high off of some O'sullok green tea.
Peace to all, and happy new year from Sungnam City!
