We wanted to include a bunch of deleted scenes on the DVD but it turns out that all the deleted scenes really got deleted!!  So we basically had to edit brand new deleted scenes.  So technically I guess you can consider them to be "bonus scenes" since they were cut together after Nerdcore For Life was all done.

I think they all turned out really nice.  We tried to keep the story of the main film moving so fast there wasn't a lot of room to include some of the weirder or funnier stuff that we shot.  So the bonus scenes have some really crazy, bizarre moments in them.  If you're a real nerdcore fan I think you'll love the stuff we put together.  Some of the bonus scenes have a harder edge to them then the rest of the film and some serious disses get thrown around.  But there's some really funny stuff in there too....like a short film about our trip to Amsterdam last spring for our European premiere.

Hopefully we'll be announcing the release date of the DVD very soon but in the meantime, here's a taste of the aforementioned bonus material.  Think of this as a bonus, bonus scene because it didn't actually make the DVD.  It was kind of long and a little (visually) dark at times so we thought we'd just post it straight to the web.

If something this awesome wasn't good enough to be an extra scene, imagine how mind-blowing the stuff we did include must be!  The tile of this scene is "T.I.'s Lost Nerdcore For Life Cameo" and that title is no joke.  Our French-Canadian cameraman was able to capture Nursehella's chance encounter with the rapper at the MTV studio in Toronto.  And then Nursehella ate T.I.'s vegetables.  Just watch and you'll see what I mean.

Exactly one year ago Sunday, I was in San Francisco for a screening of Nerdcore For Life at the Frozen Film fest. While out there, Doc Pop and I shot a video for his epic song, LOLcats. I cut most of it together a few weeks later and then but it on the backburner. Then I but the burner out in the garage. So when I realized the one year anniversary of the shoot was coming up I figured I should hurry up and finish the video.

The song is so good that it'd be hard to mess up a video for it. I think it turned out well. It's jam packed full of LOLcat in-jokes. So if you like LOcats and rap music then this is the video for you. If you don't like LOLcats. please leave the internet immediately.

A nerdcore fan at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, CO contacted me about two months ago and asked what it would take to make a screening and concert happen at his school. We exchanged some ideas and the dude actually busted his ass and made the whole thing happen! He even got the school to sponsor it as an official event so the whole thing will be free and open to all. They even made up some really sweet posters:

I'll be there and so will Colorado's favorite son, Ytcracker. This is a student thing but the general public is welcome.

March 2, 2009 - Monday

We're back! After some genuine concern and worry about one member of our party, I’m happy to say that all of us (Beefy, MC Router, MC Lars, Ytcracker and me, Dan) survived our trip to Amsterdam for Glitched: The Dutch Nerdcore event. I think all of us would agree that it was one of the best, coolest, most special things we’ve ever done in our lives. It’s not just that it was a fun trip (which it was) it was because the guys that brought us out there (4Worx) were just such awesome, cool, happy people and they really made us feel appreciated and welcome. They didn’t set up the fest for money…they did it because they thought it would be fun and man. oh man, did those guys have fun. Those 4Worx guys partied harder than any of us!

My flight landed at the airport in Amsterdam at about 9am on Tuesday and I was met by Gerrit, one of the 4Worx guys. He bought me some tea and we talked for like 2 hours while we waited for Beefy, Router and Ytcracker to get there. They were all coming in on the same flight from Houston. We were soon joined at Schiphol by Stevijn, the genius who came up with the idea for Glitched. Both he and Gerrit were super great guys; both as funny and as nice as could be. They took good care of us.

About 20 minutes before the other guys were supposed to land we noticed that suddenly everyone in the airport had gathered around every big screen TV they could find. Gerrit got up to see what was on. He came back and said “a plane just crashed at Schiphol Airport.” I said, “Wow, where’s Schiphol Airport?” And he said something to the effect of “you’re in it right now!”

I’ve been asked a few times about this but no, we didn’t feel the crash or hear any noises or see any wreckage. Right away we heard the flight was from Turkey so we knew our crew was ok but it wasn’t fun hanging out at the airport anymore. Shockingly, our friends’ plane was allowed to land after being delayed by only 15 minutes. When they got off, they didn’t even know there had been a crash or that they were almost diverted to Germany. So all of us were very lucky in more ways than one.

Our hotel turned out to be outrageously nice. We would have been happy to sleep at the train station but instead, 4Worx booked us into the Hotel American which is right on one of the most famous and popular squares in Amsterdam; the Liedsplein. It was absolutely the best area you could ever hope to stay in. It was right in the heart of all the action. The rooms we got were ridiculous! I stayed with Beefy and our room overlooked a canal. Ytcracker stayed with MC Lars’ manager Mark (also a great, funny guy) and they had a huge balcony overlooking the square. MC Router got here own room, MC Lars stayed with his very cool girlfriend and Gerrit and Stevijn even got rooms at the hotel too. Here's where we stayed:

That first day we had an awesome time just wandering around and then that night, the head of 4Worx, Hermen came in to meet us. That dude was super cool too. Hermen, Stevijn and Gerrit all kept taking us to dinner, showing us around, buying us drinks….it was just all fun, all the time. Here’s a video the 4Worx guys posted. They took me and Router to a popular Dutch fast food place to try something that Hermen described as being “the best thing you will ever eat."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYRovc8gKL0

The thing we’re eating in the video is called a Frikendel. Here they are:

Dutch food is pretty crazy. Most of it was good and most of it was fried. I decided I should try a pickled herring since it’s like the beloved national snack of Holland. Here’s my herring:

Not pictured: me nearly puking after a single bite.

The day of the show, the 4Worx guys took us on a boat trip around the canals of Amsterdam. Probably the coolest thing about the excursion was that all we had to do to get to the boat was walk out of the front door of the hotel and there was the boat. Here are a video posted by Stevijn (I think) of some of the rappers freestyling while boating. You can chalk up the bizarre freestyles to a combination of jet lag and too many Frikendels.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cu0tfy4zOe8

After the boat trip we headed to the venue; Club Panama. We spent a few hours setting up and doing tech checks and at 8pm we were greatly relived to see that a throng of people were waiting outside! I’m going to guess that overall, 250+ people turned out and some came from as far as Germany and the UK.

Everyone watched the film intently but the audio was kind of a problem since no matter how quiet everyone tried to be, there was always a soft murmur amongst the crowd. I wish we had screened a copy of the film that had subtitles. That way people could have been able to socialize while still keeping up with the film.

Stevijn had a good idea which was that as soon as the credits started, Beefy should come out and perform “Nerdcore For Life.” He did just that and the crowd went BERZERK. The audience loved the show from start to finish. I have been to more nerdcore shows than I can count at this point but I have never seen a reaction like the one that Router, Beefy, YT and Lars got in Amsterdam. People danced their asses off! And what was really, really, really great is that the people who danced the hardest and seemed to have the most fun were all the employees of 4Worx. Oh, there was tons of media people there too. The artists all probably did like 5 interviews each. Here’s a video piece about the show. Some of it’s in Dutch but you’ll get the point:

After the performances on Thursday night, Ytcracker DJed for a while and the people kept on dancing. When Club Panama finally kicked us out at 2:30am, we headed back to the liedsplein. I rode back in a cab with Router and some of the 4Worx team….they were the drunkest, craziest people I’ve ever ridden in a cab with. After a late night snack at a dutch burger king (lol) we found another club to go to. When I finally couldn’t take anymore I snuck out of there at about 4am which was just about the time that Router got up on the bar’s “stripper pole.” (that’s always my cue to leave.)

The 4Worx guys had to head back to the home base in Amersfoort on Friday and it was sad to see them go. After they left, we all did various fun things that won’t be covered here. (What happens in Amsterdam, stays in Amsterdam.) I will add that Router passed out cold on Saturday night and though we called her room and banged on her door, she slept until 11am on Sunday. Too bad her flight was at 8am. Since she didn’t give us any sign that she was in her room we assumed that she went out and didn’t come back. So our last hours in Amsterdam were a little tense. But after she awoke Router was able to catch a later flight and lived to get wasted another day.

That’s me with the 4worx guys.  I can’t say thanks enough to Gerrit, Hermen, Stevijn and everyone at 4Worx for being such fun, gracious hosts. I hope they thought the whole thing was worth all the trouble they went through! I also really appreciate the artists from the film who were willing to fly half-way across the world to play one, single show. Without them, there wouldn’t be a movie let alone a “Dutch Nerdcore event.” So basically I pretty much owe like a dozen people some really giant favors. Next trip, the pickled herring’s on me!

Ah-ha.  We've got two screenings coming up that I don't need to get on a plane to attend.  Both will be for the Lake County Film Fest in early March.  Here are the deets....

Friday, March 6th @ 6PM
College of Lake County, Room B270
19351 W Washington St.  Grayslake, IL

Sunday, March 8th @ 4PM
College of Lake County, Room B270
19351 W Washington St.  Grayslake, IL

It's just a 90 minute drive to Grayslake so chances are good that I'll be at both screenings.  The fest guide says that the doc plays both days with the short film Reefer Madness but no, it's not the Reefer Madness you're thinking of.  It looks good though.  Oh yeah, in a weird twist, my "Why Chicago" 2016 Olympics video is going to be playing in the shorts program.  How the heck did that happen?  The director of the fest saw in on the OTHER NC4L blog and said the fest should show it.  If only it was that easy to get into every film fest!

Here's the festival's full schedule:  http://lcff.bside.com/2009/schedule

Mercifully, 2008 is over and the new year is here.  2008 might have been kind of tough for the wold in general but it was actually a really good year for Nerdcore For Life; we played in lots of great festivals, had sold out screenings, got lots of good press, got some sweet reviews and held some really awesome parties and concerts.  But all that was a warm up for 2009.  I get a lot of questions about where and when people can see the film and those questions can be answered in resolution form.

So here are our (not so surprising) resolutions for 2009:

1.  RELEASE THE FILM ON DVD.

2.  HOLD SCREENINGS IN CITIES WE HAVEN'T SCREENED IN YET.

3.  SET UP NERDCORE CONCERTS AFTER SCREENINGS WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

4.  CONTINUE TO KICK ASS.

When will the DVD finally be available?  As soon as possible I hope.  Perhaps by the spring?  As far as screenings go, definite targets are LOS ANGELES , NEW YORK, TEXAS, COLORADO and FLORIDA.  I'm open to screening just about anywhere though.  If you have some ideas or suggestions about screenings in the places I mentioned, or if you think Nerdcore For Life should come to your town (or country!) let us know!  Write us at Nerdcoreforlife@gmail.com.  Happy Nerd Year everybody!
November 24, 2008 - Monday
After waiting to talk about this for about 2 months I think planning is far enough along that we can announce this:

Amsterdam, here we come

Nerdcore For Life and the Dutch web company, 4Worx are teaming up to present the first European Nerdcore Extravaganza-  GLITCHED:  THE DUTCH NERDCORE EVENT.

The date is set for Thursday Feb 26, 2009. The venue has been booked but 4Worx hasn't announced it yet so I'll hold off on mentioning it. Let me just say, the place is awesome and it's featured a lot of A list concerts.

So where will the "Dutch nerdcore event" be taking place? Amsterdam, of course!

What will be going on? We will be holding the European premiere of Nerdcore For Life and immediately after the screening there will be live performances by four of the artists from the film.  Who's performing? Just MC ROUTER, BEEFY, MC LARS and YTCRACKER that's all. I'll be there too to present the film...and party my ass off Amsterdam-style.

Great line-up or greatest line-up?

More details can be found the event's website:

http://www.glitched.nl/

So there you go. Amsterdam….2009. Be there and witness Nerdcore History!! Or just stay at home and wait until we post videos and blogs about it afterwards.
October 14, 2008 - Tuesday
You can tell I'm starting to get a little worn out just by the fact that blog recaps of each of our screenings get shorter and shorter as time goes on.  For the premiere I wrote a small book of a re-cap, took a few thousand photos and filmed everything.  Six months later I return from a film fest with less than a dozen pictures in my camera, no video and zero hilarious stories of drunken, celebratory exuberance.

I just didn't have it in me to go full bore this time out.  Sure I flew down to New Orleans for the screening but honestly it was mostly an excuse to take a little vacation.

It was a good trip though; I ate maybe 2000 pralines and the screening went well.  Even though we got the midnight-movie slot we had a good turnout and everyone seemed to really like the film.  A few people seemed to enjoy it more than anyone I've yet encountered.  Plus I think everybody stayed for the Q&A which really meant a lot since the movie ended at about 1:20AM!

The big paper down there, The Times Picayune recommended us as their "pick" for the first night of the festival.  The frickin' picked us over the screenings of Queen Latifa's new  movie, The Secret Life of Bees and Mike Leigh's new film, Happy Go Lucky.  In your face Queen Latifa!!  I gotta say, it's always fun to roll into a new town for a film fest, pick up a copy of the local paper and see the film in there:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

After the screening someone actually told me that what convinced them to see the movie was that picture of Router.

On Friday night the festival had a swanky opening night party that my friend and I went to.  New Orleans is a classy fest and the party was pretty darn good.  There was free gumbo and Pralines everywhere and I even saw Harry Shearer!!  I wanted to go introduce myself but I didn't want to come off like the one dork in the room full of hip filmmakers.  The guy that did go talk to Harry Shearer though was the Ambassador of Nerdcore himself, High-C.  What they discussed, I do not know but I did notice that High-C came back to our table with the longest note/autograph I've every seen and one less copy of creative materials he brought with him.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Personally the screening was kind of a big thing for me.  Why?  Because not only did the movie play in a Landmark Theater but is played in mall.  I felt so mainstream!

Just about 45 minutes before showtime I got a surprise text from one of my favorite nerdcore folks, Monzy.  He was flying into New Orleans for a wedding and if his plane landed on time he was going to rush right to the theater.  He made it just as the film started to roll.  Monzy's awesome.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

So New Orleans really knows how to put on a nice festival.  I even got my first Swag bag!!  That was a huge career landmark for me.  It was a fun time and I got to party, feel cool, eat pralines and beignets, hang out with Monzy and High-C, meet some Nerdcore fans and talk to some really great people from the festival.  I wish I had some crazy stories report but...wait, no I don't.  I'm glad this fest was smooth and uneventful.   It gave me time to focus on visiting above-ground cemeteries and voodoo shops.

September 24, 2008 - Wednesday
Man October is going to be a busy month for us.  We've already got three screenings and two concerts lined up.  Check it out:

Nerdcore For Life will be making it's southwestern premiere at the Tucson Film and Music Fest in October.  The fest actually selected us to be their official "Closing Night Film" which adds to the over-all awesomeness of the whole thing.  Plus we're screening at Tucson's Loft Cinema which is one of the best, most-loved indie theaters in the entire country.  Here's the details:

And right after the screening, head over to PLUSH for the festival's closing night festival featuring live performances by Nerdcore megastars Nomad, Maja and Ytcracker!

New Orleans Screening

We're very excited to announce that Nerdcore For Life will be screening at the 19th annual New Orelans film fest.  The documentary has been selected as one of the fest's opening night films and will screen on Friday, October 10th.  I'm especially psyched about the screening since we're booked into a Landmark Cinema Theater and the two films playing before us are the new Queen Latifa/Dakota Fanning film, The Secret Life of Bees and the new Mike Leigh film, Happy-Go-Lucky.  That's a major league lead-in right there.  Dan the director will be in attendance as will the Ambassador of Nerdcore…. the 3rd coast's king of geek rap…..High-C.  Here are the details:

Chicago
screening and concert

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The HOMETOWN screening of Nerdcore For Life is finally on. It is on like Donkey Kong and all are invited to be a witness to (nerd) history!

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5th @ 5:00PM
REGGIE'S MUSIC JOINT
2105 South State Street, Chicago, IL
TICKETS: $8.00, AGES 18 and up only!
BAR and RESTAURANT will be OPEN and serving during the event!

The screening is being held at Reggie's Music Joint in the South Loop. For those in the know, yes, it is the smaller venue attached to Reggie's Rock Club. "The Joint" seats 120 but can fit up to 200 so if you want to be assured of a seat, get there early. The movie will be projected on to the club's (relatively) big screen and also will be running on all of their plasma screens. We are renting out the whole place so everyone in the club will be there to see the film. The Bar and Restaurant in the Joint will be open and serving food and alcohol all night and trust me, the best way to watch the documentary is drunk out of your mind. Despite the selling and drinking of booze, the event is open to anyone aged 18+. Oh, and by the way…The Bears play at noon on Sunday, October 5th. So you do not have to miss the BEARS game to go to the screening.

The Joint has its own stage and immediately after the film is over, Nerdcore superstars THE FORMER FAT BOYS and local Chiptune musician William Sides Atari Party will tear the club to shreds with a performance that will surely go down in South Loop History.

The venue is very, very easy to get to. If you're driving from the south, just take I-94 to the 22nd St/chinatown exit. Turn right on Cermak, then left on State and the club is right there. You should be able to find meter parking on state or wabash. If you're taking the train, the club is only about a block from the Cermak Red-Line Stop. Some of you might have heard that the corner of State and Cermak is just a little bit of a sketchy area but things are mellow over there on sundays. Plus the club is like a block from a bunch of new, high-end condos so it ain't that bad.

-DOORS OPEN AT 5:00PM.
-SCREENING BEGINS EXACTLY at 5:30PM.
-LIVE PERFORMANCES START AT 7:00PM.
-SHOW'S OVER BY 8 or 8:30PM
