Don't touch my hat!!!!!

Don't Touch My Hat! For those of you who do not wear a cowboy hat, I wanted to speak on behalf of those of us who do. We're glad to see new folks come around the country clubs and rodeos. We know that you're somewhat intrigued by what we wear, especially our Cowboy Hats. But, let me give you a hard and fast rule that should NEVER be broken, "DON'T TOUCH MY HAT!" Touching a cowboy's or cowgirl's hat is as offensive as touching any private part of their body. It's one of the rudest things you can do.

Real cowboy hats are expensive and have sentimental value! Most start in the range of $150 and go on up to $5,000. Some are handed down from father to son. Some are earned in rodeos. Either way, it's special thing. It's very different from the $10 hat you won at the carnival and looks like an elephant stepped on it. :)

We take care of our hats! We like to keep them clean and in the particular shape we prefer. Yes, there are actually people who specialize in shaping hats. You don't want to take your hat in constantly to get it shaped because it eventually wears out the hat. That means when it comes off of our head, it goes into a hat box to help it maintain its shape and stay clean. If there is not a hat box, we never set it on its brim which will bend it. We turn it upside down on its crown. But it is most likely that we would just not take it off. So, you can see how you touching it with the oils on your hands or tapping it with your hand to be cute is not a very polite thing to do.

It's also rude to ask us to let you wear our hats. Besides the reasons above, here are a few more:

First, nowhere on my body does it say, 'Western Store'. If you want to try on hats, go find a store that sales them.

Second, it's not a very clean thing to do. I really don't want whatever critters that are on your head moving in to my hat for a permanent vacation.

Third, I have 'hat hair' since I am...ahhh...wearing a hat. So, I really don't want to look like an idiot with my hair sticking everywhere.

Fourth (and most important), a girl wearing a cowboy's hat does have a special meaning in most circles. It means you're....how should I say this....'dating'. Of course, dating can be defined in various ways! ;)

So, yes I'll teach you how to two-step. But unless you want to go to the third step, "Don't Touch My Hat!"
