Current mood:spitting stones
what can I say? we are all bitterly disappointed that the "organiser" has canceled the gig we were due to play tomorrow. the guy obviously couldn't organise a bacon butty but there you go. it's not just that he wimped out at the last minute but that he has left us in a horrible situation with our rehearsal studio which we had booked for the whole week. it makes us look bad and that's not the way we like to do things.

we had had odd feelings about this one but once we were into the final week, we thought it would be plain sailing. we should know by now that nothing here works like that.

sorry people of lamia, you'll have to wait a good while longer before we can share the love with you.

if ever...

Current mood:boastfully big-headed
as you know (if you read here on a regular basis), we contributed one of our songs (sacrifice) to a film soundtrack. shoulder for hire is a futuristic film directed by the very wonderful and brilliant dimitris emmanouilidis and edited by the excessively talented kenan akawi. it will have its stateside premiere on saturday 28th june 2008 at the spielberg theatre in los angeles as part of the greek film festival. the diva makes a brief appearance and vishy created some of the incidental music in the film. sacrifice plays in full at the very end and over the closing credits.

the film has been winning awards around the place including the thessaloniki film festival (special prize for fiction), drama film festival (honorary distinction for the best sets to dimitris ziakas). as you know (again, if you read here on a regular basis), the film also won the prize for best soundtrack at the athens science fiction film festival earlier in the year (we have certificates to prove it).

how cool is that ?

if you happen to be in la on saturday, check it out.

Current mood:hideously hot
[cross-posted from our real blog. sorry it's a bit late. i forgot to post it here as well for all you lazy people who haven't bookmarked our grown-up blog]

so our bass player has lost the plot completely now. he has just bought an electric upright double bass thingy. it's heavy and very tall and has a very swanky case. it also looks really, really cool. i predict that we will need heavier security at the next gig to stop people swarming the stage.

we are getting together tonight to try out this newest addition to the empire that is bad mathematics. it'll be loud, exciting and probably very silly. our drummer is going away for a month after that so we will be having a break from gigging over the summer.

i will try and remember to write some miscellaneous nonsense here from time to time. in the meantime, be good, be bad or be silly… just make sure you do it to music.

Current mood:crazily creative
Cross posted at our grown-up blog

dearest reader, i have neglected you for far too long. i was busy with the exhibition last week and this week i was just being too lazy to blog here. not very diva-like, is it ? so here i am again with the announcement of the next gig. on wednesday 4th june 2008, we will be playing at after dark. i know you know where it is but in case you have forgotten, it's ippokratous and didotou 31, central athens.

you never know with us what will happen but one thing is for sure… it won't be boring. don't miss out on the mad jams, terrible jokes, the gut-churning mistakes, the never to be repeated moments of fabulous, the heckling, the strippers and the good old bone-shaking rock n roll that is bad mathematics.

look forward to seeing you all there… you know you want to !

More tomorrow including the very artistic poster from everyone's bass player and dictator, i mean webmaster. love you vishy.

Current mood:fiercly floating
i don’t know how to write about last night.

it was one of those rare and wonderful evenings that cannot be truly explained or repeated. you really had to be there. it was an electrifying, smoky, hot, dangerous, delightful and uplifting experience. there were mistakes and problems and heart-stopping moments of pure fear, but they were totally swept aside by the pure energy and genius of other moments. you really had to be there.

thank you mr. vice lesley (;-)) of the velvoids for being gutsy enough to get this idea started and doing it with great success. thank you to all the other bands and musicians who took the risk of taking part and pulled it off in a spectacular way. thank you to tassos and the small music theatre for being the greatest hosts this town has. thank you to giorgos for doing a grand job on the sound desk. thank you to everyone who came in such numbers. thank you to everyone who said such great stuff about us. thank you for all the hugs. i am still feeling the glow. looking forward to the next one...

and you really have to be there.

Current mood:happily hoping
the idea that bad mathematics are doing an acoustic set tomorrow is absurd. we are a big bad loud rocking band aren’t we ? but that’s exactly what we are going to do. we’ve been rehearsing unplugged in our living room and we’ve been doing some rarely heard pieces. it’s been fun and i am looking forward to trying something new tomorrow. we are going to attempt some improvisation too. live and proud. it’s a little scary but we have never been afraid of scary. i hope you will make it down to the small music theatre on friday and be part of a truly unique evening. these kind of events don’t come around very often.

Current mood:achingly acoustic
next up for us is this exciting evening at the small music theatre in athens (33, veikou street, koukaki) on friday 4th april. vice lesley of the brilliant velvoids is organising this acoustic night in support of the venue. a great lineup of bands and musicians get together for a night of songs, jams and mayhem.

come down and support the best underground venue in athens. it’s only 3 euros so poverty is not an excuse. we are going to play a couple of obscure bm tracks. we haven’t decided exactly which ones yet but it’ll be fun anyway. we are intending to jam with some people and play on other people’s tracks.

it’s one of those rare evenings where you just don’t know what will happen. and whether it’s great, average or rubbish, you’ll be witness to a unique event.

more on this later…

Current mood:thoughtfully thankful
i am not going to be hard on myself or the band.

i refuse to be depressed because the gig was not our best ever.

i had a lot of fun and i think others did too.

i would have liked to have pulled a bigger audience but it wasn’t bad for a wednesday complete with transport strikes, blackouts and various other problems usual situations in greece.

my designer top (which probably cost more than all my clothes put together), that was a gift from my brilliant friends, probably upstaged me. but that’s ok. it is gorgeous.

it was great to see all our friends and die-hard fans.

the velvoids were fabulous. and are the loveliest people. happy birthday dora.

thank you katerina for coming and taking photographs. i can’t wait to see them.

looking forward to the next gig.

more from me soon.

Current mood:kindly kidding
i only wrote that title to get your attention !

our next gig is coming up very fast. remember wednesday at after dark ? we have pretty much finalised the playlist but reserve the right to be totally indecisive and change it at any time. it's going to be a much longer gig than some of our recent ones, so we are all working hard to get in shape (like you believe that?). we were so exhausted yesterday at rehearsals that somebody said should we play some more or go to bed ? the deafening answer was "go to bed". and so we did. what pros we are.

anyway, you know us. it'll all be alright on the night… see you on wednesday.
