Universal Citywalk. The show starts at 8pm, the Downs play at 9pm. FREE show on the Citywalk. Always a great show, and our last of the year (yes, Ellen will be playing 7 1/2 months pregnant, for better or for worse).
Hope to see you there!

Well folks, This saturday, the Piper Downs are turning 15. Not many bands can say that, and it is a source of pride for me. Although, I am getting tired of people asking why we were never signed. In the last 15 years we have toured across the country more times than I can count with amazing shows in Blacksburg Va, Reno NV., Shreveport LA., OK City OK, Roswell NM., Denver, CO., and Chicago IL, just to name a few. While there are too many tour stories to count, one that has always risen to the top. It happened in the dead of winter in Va. on the way to a show in Blacksburg VA. We had the most amazing GIANT blue tour van that saw through fair and foul weather. At the beginning of the drive it was raining in Richmond, and our winshiled wipers stopped working. We stopped at an autoparts store, and after looking at the wipers, I could see that a simple pin had broken, which was preventing the wiper arm from moving back and forth. The parts store had something close to what we needed, and with some force, I was able to make it work. Later, as the snow began to fall, and the temparature dropped, the van began to run worse and worse. Finally, it stopped running all together in the middle of no where. We had a friend following us in a small car, so Bobby and I volunteered to stay with the van while the others ventured 50 miles back to the nearest town. It was like a Horror movie. Bobby and I were alone ther in the van with snow piling up around us, and NO lights anywhere much less any cars around. Finally we were rescued, and the van was fixed. But not after a REALLY cold few hours. The fact remains that I would not trade those experiences for anything, and I can't think of any other people that I would rather freeze to death in a van with than this band. Happy 15th Piper Downs! here's to 15 more! Yell

It's amazing to think about our first rehearsal together. We weren't even a band yet. Garner and Yell (then Bubba) were nice enough to say they would back me up on my second solo album once Hanover Fiske broke up. When HF dissolved, I was convinced that I would never have a band again. I just couldn't be hurt like that again.
The solo album turned out great, but I was in LA, and the boys were in VA. I was shocked when they called and asked if I wanted them to be my backing band and move to Los Angeles. I barely knew Garner from school, and I didn't know Yell at all (He was Garner's friend from grade school), but I told them if they wanted to come, that we coud give it a shot. I still remember our first CA rehearsal at the house we rented in Malibu. I think we only had about 6 songs, but we played the hell out of them.
I also remember having a band meeting early on saying that we would give the band two years of hard work, then decide if we should go on. I guess we went on.
Now, it's really hard for me to imagine what my life would be like if I had never met the guys. It's family, and it's hard to imagine not having your family in your life.
This Saturday is the fifteenth anniversary of our first show in Los Angeles (it was at a club that no longer exists called Mancini's). Our very first show was a battle of the bands, that, incidentally, we won.
Since then we have won dozens of competitions, sold thousands of records, traveled the world, and changed all of our lives. I can't speak for them, but I know that I am a better person for knowing Garner, Yell, and Ellen. The fact that I am also in a band with these three is a dream come true for a kid who never thought he'd play in a band again.
I sure hope you can be at our show, this Saturday, August 8th at Molly Malone's, so that you can be a part of the celebration. After all, without people coming to the shows and buying the albums, this would just be another Saturday, instead of a life-changing milestone.

The Downs played Universal City Walk last night, and it was a great show. We love playing the city walk. There are always crowds, and the sound is fantastic. Not to mention we are able to play in front of a ton of new people, many of which friend us the next day.
After posting the show on Myspace, I got a ton of responses from people that had seen us there last summer. Most of them hasd been visiting Los Angeles on vacation, and had stumbled across a rock show! Just the way the Downs like it!
Thanks to everyone that made it out last night, and I will let you know as soon as we have another show at City Walk!

What's going on with the Piper Downs? The answer is quite a bit. Let's see..... 1. Bobby is hosting a show for the History Channel called "Food Tech". He has been shooting for quite some time now. The show will Premiere April 21st at 8pm. I know you will all tune in. You can keep up with the on road antics with his Blog. http://www.myspace.com/bobbybognar. 2. We are working on a new album. The Piper Downs don't just sit around while Bobby becomes a huge T.V. star. We are working on a new album. 3. Garner and Yell play out here and there. Garner has a punk band with a couple of girls (fitting) called the Trainwrecks. http://www.myspace.com/thetrainwrecksrockYell is singing lead and playing guitar in an Alt country project called Idalou. You can see them at http://www.myspace.com/idaloumusic. We have a ton of shows and a new record planned for the summer, so stay tuned for the next chapter in the Piper Downs saga.

Chicago Trip After taking a limo from the airport (seriously) to our friend Billy's, Nick came over with a couple of authentic Chicago-style pizza pies! Man, that is some good pizza! Time check: 2:30am. Pizza always tastes best at this hour. 11 Hours later we're at the Elbo Room checking out Nick's set. It was great to hear Nick playing with his band! They rocked out, good job Nick! As an added bonus he invited Bobby and I to jump up on stage to play some guitar and drums for "It Doesn't Work Anymore." Later tonight The Piper Downs will take the IPO stage at Wise Fool's Pub around 11pm. I hope Chicago is ready to hear some new 'Downs tunes! Here we come.

It's our first day in Chicago, and it's COLD!!! High of 52, and it's about 42 now. We have seen some bands this afternoon, and we had a great time. Nick Bognar was fantastic!
We have a show tonight, and I can't wait. Chicago loves the rock, and that's what we do. Don't forget...Cheap trick is from Chicago. 'nuff said.

Oh man, Saturday is Ellen's Birthday, and I don't know what we are going to get her. Maybe a knuckle sandwich. That's was Garner's suggestion. Anyway, don't forget that we are playing at the Universal City Walk on Saturday July 15th. We go on at 8 and again at 9.
Rock out!!! Yell
