Is the Pope catholic? Well, not these ones, but they sure can hold a tune! Popes of Chillitown are not only much more sprightly than Ratzinger, but they're better looking to boot. Ska Burlesque
Thursday 15th February @ JAMM

Thursday nights have just got exciting – with Jerry Dammers, an ex-colleague of Dita Von Teese and a chance to let your personality go wild!

Ska and Burlesque as separate underground genres have been experiencing a resurgence of late and now one daring promoter is fusing the two to create something fresh, glamorous and fun all in one package. A revolutionary new form has been born, and Brixton's JAMM is the perfect home for it!

Having firmly established a regular following at the Montague in New Cross, this extremely unique and popular night Ska Burlesque is setting up camp @ JAMM on February 15th. Brixton get ready!

The brains behind this rare offering, Steve 'Kleenex', says "when we launched in New Cross I was a bit worried the night wouldn't draw a crowd but I was completely taken aback by how everyone was so excited about this alternative night. Our popularity is progressing with every event and we have continued to grow. The space in Jamm really suits what we want to achieve. It's the perfect size and is adaptable to our needs, allowing us to deck out the interior which transforms it into a seemingly brand new club. We are really thrilled about Feb 15th and hope that we are just as successful in Brixton."

This experimental event combines these two reviving trends for an incredibly popular evening of 2-tone upbeat ska and theatrical burlesque performances that take the sleaze out of stripping and replaces it with humour and art.

Rather than appealing to the Gentlemen's club scene as Burlesque may be considered to do, Ska Burlesque has a performance art aspect to it which spreads its appeal to a much greater and far reaching audience. People of all backgrounds & demeanours can enjoy the night, making it accessible to both men and women. In fact, Steve is proud to see that his audience actually consists of more women than men – there is definitely a growth in female interest and the sleeze has vanished. This is about fun & dressing up, twisting the forms of cabaret and theatre to reach the wider populace. Despite it being branded as an alternative night, Burlesque has been leaking into the mainstream recently, and by combining it with Ska music, this promoter really is launching the underground into another level.

To make this night even more appealing, the Ska Burlesque crew have managed to bag the legendary JERRY DAMMERS of The Specials fame who'll be cranking out the vinyl with an awesome 2-tone ska DJ set.

On the burlesque side, there is a great line up of top live acts. Featuring:

MYSTI VINE, who has previously shared a stage with the world renowned Dita Von Teese, and has been performing burlesque and stand up comedy for over six years. Her act unites her two talents and she'll seduce the crowd with a wink, a wiggle and a sly tongue.

CRIMSON SKYE the crazy redhead is fresh out of the slammer and ready to show the world some razzle-dazzle with her hilarious burlesque performance, described as a mixture of Patsy Cline and Silence of the Lambs and starring her partner in crime 'Ed the Head'.

TENACITY FLUX is a lady full of contradictions elegant, yet titillating, gently humorous, yet tongue-in-cheek, raunchy, yet refined. Her show is guaranteed to raise both an eyebrow and a smile!

With free poledancing lessons throughout the evening, this is a night to really get excited about. With fun and frolics the order of the day, this is a chance to let the wildest side of your personality loose. Make a break from the usual Thursday band night and get all dolled up in your fishnets and feather boas and experience this revolutionary and truly unique night!
