The Omens - Send Black Flowers Pure, unadulterated raging slabs of fuzzed out, organ drenched, guitar-mad, R&B soaked old school garage rock and roll. We've been bragging the merits of the Omens for months now to every person we chance across at every bar, school, and street corner. If walls of maximally-fuzzed garage guitars charging through a raving chorus, big swooping melodies, Little Richard yelping vocals and harmonies like they just don't record em anymore appeals to your musical palette, you gotta check these guys out. They studied the masters of the past and took their lessons well. Wild R&B from the Sonics, psychedelic flourishes from the Seeds, short punky riffs from the Standells, it's all here. And the Ripple has deemed it's all good. We first learned of these way-cool cats when they popped their 7" single "Won't be Ashamed b/w Make it Last," into the Ripple mailbox. Both of those tracks are here, sounding just as urgent now as they did way back then, but it's a testament to the strength of the disc that those standout singles are hardly the only good material here. "Pray for You," is just a fricking adrenaline, pre-punk workout. "Look Away," has huge sixties-inspired melodies, sprinting guitars and perfect harmony backing vocals. "I Need Your Love," "It's Down On You," "You Don't Know Me At All," are all resurrected blasts of garage/surfy fury. "Make it Last," sounds particularly delectable in this context. Just a perfect groovy-cool burst of garage madness. With most tracks clocking in at around the 2:30 mark, this is a fierce blow out of some great psych punk. But before you go thinking The Omens are a one-trick pony, the boys mix it up with the extended neo-prog in a beach party garage-fest that is "You Can't Come Back," with it's prolonged, muted bass intro, jazzy pacing and gentle guitars. That is until the garage collapses in again with some bitchin' screaming and strumming. Great stuff, surely to satisfy.

This months edition of Razorcake reviews the latest Omens record. Momma gonna knock you out!
__________________________________________________________________________ OMENS, THE: Send Black Flowers: The Standells hire a ‘roid-raged Mike Tyson to deliver repeated knockout blows to the nards while they do some serious ear-pummelin’ via grade-A punked up fuzz rock. It’s not often I verbalize my approval whilst a disc is on, but I gotta admit I had the window down and was screamin’ “fuck yeah!” pretty much throughout its initial spin. Pretty nifty when that happens. –Jimmy Alvarado (Hipsville,)

The latest addition of the excellent Spanish rock and roll publication "Kick Out The Jams!" seems happy with the lastest batch of records...brush up on your Spanish friends!
The Omens SEND BLACK FLOWER (HIPSVILLE LP+CD) LOOK AWAY/GONNA BE ALRIGHT (HIPSVILLE SINGLE) MAKE IT LAST/WON..T BE ASHAMED (HIPSVILLE SINGLE)

The Omens - Look Away b/w Gonna Be Alright It was back in January, that I started this column by plugging in my new turntable and being blown clear through the double pane windows by the concussion wave of fuzzed out garage rock exploding off the Omens single Make it Last b/w Won't be Ashamed. Well damn, if they haven't gone and done it again! What we got here are two pure on charging nitro-fueled bursts of classic garage rock. These guys share the same area code of all the classic bands you can name, The Seeds, the Sonics, the Standells. Go on, name more, you'll find it all here. Melodies that don't quit you until long after the song's over, organs swirling around the beat like an incoming tide, fuzzed out Rickenbacker guitars, lost 1960 backing vocal "Ah ha's," and a lead voice that carries the whole thing as effortlessly as a helium balloon taking flight. Oh yeah, and let's don't' forget that propulsive drum beat and crashing cymbal engine that propels this baby with the best of them. Imagine Jan and Dean locked in a garage with a Sonics record collection for eight years, having to play their hearts out to get fed and you'll get the feeling of "Look Away," an absolute delicious gem of melodic retro-sixties garage pop. "Gonna Be Alright," is that same band after being told that despite the promise, they weren't gonna get out. Now they're pissed, snotty, and ready to eat their own instruments. A hyper adrenaline blast of nasty-fuzzed guitars flame under the lyrics "I'm so sick and tired of waiting for you." Glorious in it's punk energy and unbridled attack. Another true gem from a band that seems to have more of em than the local jewelry store. If you're a garage rock fan, don't miss out. The Omens got it going on!
