Hiya guys,

Some KIIIND of crappy news:  we announced the Scarlet Starlet EP release date as May 1st, and true to our track record, are not going to make that.  We had our Icicle Bicycle CD release without CDs; our Conical Monocle release was, what, at least a week late?  This one's gonna be late too.

On the BRIGHT side, we decided that to apologize, on May 1st we're going to put the entire EP on MySpace.

It'll come down (except for four preview tracks) as soon as the actual CD becomes available on CDbaby--probably a week later, at this point.

We're sorry!!!

Love,
-Judith Jewcakes-

P.S.  On an extremely related note, my senior fine arts thesis show is going up this weekend; there'll be an opening on Wednesday 29 April at Montserrat College in Beverly, if any Bostonians wanna come by and see teh peripherins visuals.

Hiiiii!

So the Scarlet Starlet EP/LP (it's one of those awkward in-between lengths) comes out around May 1st -- we are pushing for that deadline -- and we're gonna be on the road starting mid-May which is so fast approacheth, it's driving me nuts.

We'd like to hit any of the following:
BOSTON
BURLINGTON, VT
MANCHESTER, NH
PORTLAND, ME
PROVIDENCE, RI
NEW YORK
PHILADELPHIA
BALTIMORE
WASHINGTON, DC
CINCINNATI
COLUMBUS
CLEVELAND
PITTSBURGH
UPSTATE NY SOMEWHERE...
TORONTO

...and anywhere around or in-between.

We have no manager.  I'm kind of the manager, but I'm also finishing my senior year of college.  I'm also not a very good manager, so please give me a hand.  This is what I'm looking for:

suggestions for small venues
HOUSE SHOWS (got a basement?  We'll totally play in it)
local bands you're in or friends with

We are ridiculously adaptable and have played in a strange variety of places in the past, with a strange variety of acts and at opposite ends of the volume spectrum (see:  PB/The Alphabet acoustic version; PB/The Alphabet loud-as-shit version; etc).

So shoot us a Myspace message, or an email to info @ prettybalanced . com , and we'll chat about stuff fo sho.

Hope ta see ya soon.
Love,
-jewcakes-

Well, first, here's the video:

http:../../..www...youtube...com/..watch?..v=_EkKHoTs2D8

And second, in case you didn't click on that already and notice immediately what the announcement must be:

We changed our name. To THE ALPHABET!

There
were a few reasons, not least of which is that people had a hard time
remembering Pretty Balanced, or remembering it correctly, and it is a
great benefit as a band if people don't have to write it down and will
still remember it when they get home five hours later.

Here
are some details about the switch: Icicle Bicycle and Conical Monocle
will remain under the name Pretty Balanced. We'll keep this MySpace,
just for them and for those who prefer them, and people can friend us
and we'll allow comments and stuff, just like now. But we will no
longer perform under the name Pretty Balanced and all new material will
be released as The Alphabet.

On
May 1st, when we release Scarlet Starlet, we'll also unveil a new
Alphabet website and MySpace and other sorts of neat Internetty stuff. We also recently had a sweet photo shoot so, new press photos!

And a videotaped live performance-..-the
last performance under the old name--we played almost the whole of the
show as Pretty Balanced and then the last song as The Alphabet, so
that'll come along with us after the switch.

Details about songs: we haven't played most of the songs from Free Public Consumption-..-or
even Icicle Bicycle--in a long time anyway, but there are several
staples which we don't plan on retiring, at least for a very long time.
"My Mind Is a Box" for instance, we will never stop playing; in fact,
we recorded FOUR new versions of it for the EP so it ain't going
nowhere. However we have made lots of changes to the songs we still
play, and as always are building our repertoire.

Well
anyway, if you wanna chat about it, you can leave a comment, or email
us at info @ prettybalanced . com, or whatever you feel like;
expressions of relief, disappointment,.. even hate mail are joyfully encouraged. Because you listen to us, so we like you, a lot.

Much love,
-The Alphabet-

Yes, we sent four of our precious few remaining copies of IB to CD Baby a couple of weeks ago.

There are those FOUR copies for sale at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/prettybalanced2 for $12, and unlimited $10 downloads. In the next few weeks it should appear on iTunes and the like.

Happy summer!

Pretty Balanced has 2K friends! Of course it'll now fluctuate between 1995 and 2005 for awhile as people delete their accounts and unfriend us, as per usual, but we have hit the mark for real.

I guess this would be a good time to announce that we're working on an EP.

Hallo,

Conical Monocle (the second album, released mid-January, if you've been out of the loop) is now for sale at CD Baby--the actual CD for $12, as usual, and an mp3 download for $10. The biggest advantage is shipping. Whereas the official store is Judith's apartment and therefore orders go out once a week, CD Baby is an official unofficial store and therefore orders go out daily. So if you're in a hurry, they're your man.

There are other cool things too, like we can now take credit cards at concerts, and in a couple of weeks we'll be up on iTunes and various other large important digital distributors.

Champagne all around.

Love,
-Pretty Balanced-

Blue duck t-shirts, which we were only selling at shows, are now on the merch page:

http://www.prettybalanced.com/store.html

They come in medium and large (sorry, the smalls sold out at said shows). The next t-shirt design, which comes out this month, will be available in the full range of sizes.

Just a reminder, think about donating a couple of bucks to our Edinburgh trip fund. The button is on our front page, in the right column:

So far we have approximately enough to eat for two days.
