There is no particular reason that I chose this song for the last Sunday. If you're going to read anything into it, take note of the fact that the song ends and the drum track keeps on playing... maybe, just maybe I decided to let it symbolize that it ain't over yet...
what do i mean when i say "it" ("it ain't over yet")... certainly not 52 Sundays, that is over. What an experience. I will never forget it. But I don't think there will ever be a year in my life where I release as many songs (but I'm not saying never).
Some on you may not realize, but just before 52 Sundays began we released 7 songs as part of "The Other Half". That's 59 songs in just over a year.
Okay, so what do I mean when I say "it ain't over yet"... well, I'm honestly not sure. I partly mean us, Evan and Jaron.
We have been getting a lot of pressure as of late to make another record... like a major record company record. There's one record label in particular that would really like us to make a record with them. But while it's an honor and a great feeling to be wanted, I'm not sure what a record deal means.
I will admit, that with some of the recent partnerships that record labels have made (the most recent of which was with myspace), the labels have finally made themselves more valuable to artists again.
okay, no need to get too into the business side of music, but as you guys know, we've always made it a point to be honest and open with our fans.
Let me just add this... If we do make another record, you will very likely be hearing a few of the songs from 52 Sundays, but since I know you guys have a voracious appetite for new music, let's just say we've saved a few gems just in case. Some of you may have heard of few of them live, but there are even a few more that no one has heard...
additionally, we've begun writing new tunes... but that doesn't necessarily mean anything... we're writers, so that's what we do.
so... in closing, sorry for the lack of any concrete answers on our future plans but just know there are several ideas being tossed around right now... and of course we're open to your opinions--even if those opinions are to throw the guitars in the fire and stay home--every one is entitled to their opinions, just like everyone is entitled to own a gun! ;)
thank you all again for being a part of the hardest, most rewarding experience (experiment?) i've had in my 15 year music career.
with love,
Evan
ps. I actually really dig this song! sorry it got over shadowed by the project itself!

Okay, someone or something doesn't want to let 52 Sundays end... this is very strange. Over the course of 52 Sundays, there have been times when i couldn't get a song to upload to either SNOCAP or MYSPACE, but never both!
Today, for some strange reason, I can't get either to upload the song--and please, no comments about the quality of the song having something to do with it! ;)
Well, I'm hopeful that over night or over the course of the next day or so this week's tune will miraculously appear.
It's called "Nothing More Than This". I wrote it back in '96 or so. I've always loved the idea of freezing a special moment in time--who hasn't wished for that at some point in their life??
But this song describes the process in great detail:
Draw a circle 'round this spot You and I and now inside (not a typo) Put this moment in a box That keeps out the rest of time Turn right here into forever I can taste in your kiss I need nothing more than this.
some moments are worth remembering...
52 Sundays has definitely been a wonderful memory that I will forever share with all of you.
Have a great week. See you next Sunday!

"I'm in love with the girl who slept in her jeans the first night she stayed over."
How's that for a visual?
I was listening to this track and wondering who the heck sang all the backups... cuz it wasn't me.
turns out it was jaron going old school and handling all of his own backing vocals.
speaking of going old school, it's beautiful outside today--no need to be indoors!
have a great sunday!

Paul Simon had a hit song in the mid 70s called "50 Ways to Leave your lover".
In this (very) rough demo, Jaron offers up the 51st way.
Yeah, I could have saved this song for the 51st week of 52 Sundays, but I decided not too... but yeah, I thought it about... just seemed too matchy-matchy... like an argyle sweater and loafers.
anyhow, not feeling so hot today, so I'm gonna keep it brief...
have a great holiday weekend and we'll catch up next week.

Every songwriting session starts with a little socializing. If you know the person you're writing with, it's more of a catch up sesh. If you don't know the person, it's about getting to know them... heck, you're about to get really intimate with them and share personal information, you better feel comfortable!
A typical writing session for me consists of myself and another writer. On a rare occasion we'll have three people. Sometimes we'll go hip-hop and have a party--4 writers. I've done that a few times and it's actually quite fun.
"Amanda Lynne" is the result of one of those "party sessions". The upside, of course, is when you're ready to demo the song at the end, you have a choir of people to sing on the song.
This is a live take at the end of a party session. Can you feel the party?
A microphone is placed in the center. Someone hits record. Another person starts the drum machine. And then the guitars start a-strummin' and we're off...
Good times.
Enjoy.

You can thank Jaron for this week's 52 Sunday song. I've been on the road traveling and just recently bought a new computer and hadn't put any E&J tunes on it yet. I know, can you imagine a computer without any E&J tunes???
Anyhow, I called Jaron on Friday and told him to email me a tune for this week and he actually did, which is why 52 Sundays was able to continue!
Finally is a song we wrote about a year ago and if I'm not mistaken, this is a demo we cut in his house.
As I mentioned, I've been traveling and I'm pretty exhausted, so I'm going to hit the sack, but I wanted to make sure you had your fix!
Have a great week and we'll see ya next week!
Evan
ps. Finally probably won't be up for purchase until tomorrow. For some reason the SNOCAP store has been running incredibly slow.

Leave it to jaron to write a song about not being bad, but rather "the other side of good".
i hadn't even heard this tune until jaron emailed it to me this week. i wondering how many more songs he's just sitting on!
well, i'm off to NY this week and then to Atlanta for the weekend. So next week, 52 Sundays will be coming to you from my hometown.
Another little interesting bit of info: Monday August 11, 2008 will mark the 15 year anniversary of our first show ever. We made $25 for 45 mins of singing (well, mostly talking--but you already knew that).
Speak soon!

Cruising on the 5 southbound to the San Diego. Isn't modern technology amazing? Or is it? I'm starting to wonder if cell phones are the new cigarettes. There was a time when we could exist without both. Then we became addicted. Every so often you hear stories about the dangers of cell phone usage and the possible link to cancer--but inside we know (we must know) that using our heads as wave towers can not be great (even if it hasn't been conclusively proven). I'm not a smoker, but I imagine if you were smoking back in the 60s, you had to have an inkling of an idea that it wasn't "good for you", well before science actually proved that.
I think we're finally ready for "second hand cell". I can't believe how irreverent people are with their cell phones. In restaurants, I've seen people let the phone ring on LOUD for several rings before finally picking up. And then proceed to speak as if the entire restaurant needed to know where he was meeting his friends later.
The future is so exciting. Technology is amazing. But the other side of the coin is that our society will be changing drastically (not to mention all the unknown side effects we face).
But isn't that a lot like a relationship between people? Exciting future with unknown side effects?
This week's song (I knew I'd eventually find my point), is about not being able to appreciate that someone until they say they're leaving. That thinking that says "things are good, but could they better?" But when they finally leave, you start to realize that the feeling of something else better being out there never goes away, no matter whom you're with.
People probably felt the world was great before cell phones. Then they came and people left their land lines behind to find a new love.
Will they eventually go back?
I have no intention of giving up my cell phone anytime soon, but I did just put another land line in my house last week after going without one for a very long time.
how many of you have land lines still?
I think I'm done. Enjoy the song.

Jaron wrote this ditty with the very talented Mitch Allan from SR-71.
I wish I knew more deets about how it all went down. Yeah, I could call Jaron--but it's early in the morning and he'll probably just tell me he doesn't remember.
Hang on, standby, I'll ring him and see if I was right... NO ANSWER! HA. You think you're the only one who's call he doesn't take?!
Well, I guess you're left to your own devices this week... but this song is pretty straightforward. You've got this chick named Caroline and she doesn't change for nobody. (I'm a genius! I figured it out all by myself).
Enjoy.
