Set your DVR, pop the popcorn and have tissues handy – Rochester, N.Y., native and award-winning filmmaker Irene Taylor Brodsky's film, Hear and Now, is scheduled to be shown on HBO at 8 p.m. (Eastern) on Thursday, May 8 and again at 7:30 p.m. (Eastern) on Sunday, May 11.
An intimate memoir, Hear and Now tells the story of Taylor Brodsky's parents, Paul and Sally Taylor, and their decision at the ages of 65 to undergo risky cochlear implant surgery.
Paul and Sally Taylor are familiar to many RIT/NTID alumni and families. Paul was an NTID professor for 30 years in Applied Computer Technology, and Sally worked in a variety of NTID staff and faculty roles for 22 years.
The film stole audiences' hearts at the famous Sundance Film Festival, where it received the festival's Audience Award for documentaries, and has since been moving audiences nationwide to laughter and tears.
The Taylors have established a scholarship to support deaf and hard-of-hearing film and animation students at RIT. If you'd like to make a donation, contact NTID Director of Development Jim Ebenhoch at jbence@rit.edu or call 585-475-6304 v/TTY.
