SHADY PRODUCER ALERT!!!
So I made the mistake of working with a person by the name of Danny Coggin on a couple of tunes. The first was an absolute clusterfuck of bad timestretching, wrong bpm, and messed up arrangements.. all of which i fixed. He said he "doesnt know what happened" and "must have messed it up.. but you can fix it right?".. i took him at this word.. saved all of the myspace convos in my inbox... and fixed the tune for the most part and that was the end of it. Then he approaches me for another tune. I agree to do it but begin keeping chat logs and myspace messages...
"his part" of the tune gets sent over. i bounced it. here it is..
Absolutely horrid right? So i ask him about it. here is the convo...

Danny says: yo man. hows it going
James Rize says: good just home a bit ago
Danny says: oh nice
Danny says: so did u get the tune ok
Danny says: the project
Danny says: did u understand it
James Rize says: well.. after muting the midi below. there were alot of issues.
Danny says: yeah the midi below were the orginal midi notes
James Rize says: from what?
Danny says: and just put it in to see if you wanted to use it
James Rize says: whats the tune?
Danny says: member i sent u midi on here a few months ago
James Rize says: i got that part
Danny says: thats what the midi
Danny says: in the bottom
Danny says: but i added new midi. leads melody bass
James Rize says: i understand that. where did you get the tune?
Danny says: where did i get the tune?
James Rize says: yah. part of the midi on the far right was from that dyce rmx. but the bounce in there was from way before i sent it to you
Danny says: the midi?
Danny says: hmm weird
Danny says: all i know is that track needed to be intact
Danny says: some minor things
James Rize says: in that project you sent me, there was midi from the dyce tune. the melody I wrote and some other midi on the far right for the old tune
Danny says: thats fucking weird
Danny says: i dont get that
Danny says: i was heaps tired
Danny says: i must of done something
Danny says: opened wrong project
Danny says: or sent wrong thing
Danny says: iono how to explain that
James Rize says: but the bounce was from early june
Danny says: how do u know
Danny says: hmmm
Danny says: weird
James Rize says: save data tags on the file
Danny says: maybe i sent u the wrong thing
James Rize says: weird
Danny says: i mean when u open project
Danny says: what does it say
James Rize says: Sky high
Danny says: whats the project called
Danny says: rize&dc ?
James Rize says: yep
Danny says: is the track workable
Danny says: just x all the midi
James Rize says: sounds awful. phrasing is off and bass is fucked
Danny says: yeah
Danny says: can you fix it
Danny says: did u go to bounces
Danny says: on the project
James Rize says: yes.
Danny says: thats what it was suppost to soind like
James Rize says: thats where i found the 2 nomth old bounce of a good tune in progress.
James Rize says: who wrote it?
James Rize says: i dont think it was ever part of the project file you sent. cause it had a ton of stuff left over from the dyce tune
Danny says: yeah i have no clue what happened it
Danny says: i must of sent the wrong thing
Danny says: i was fucking tired
Danny says: must of opened wrong project
Danny says: and started deleting shit
James Rize says: weird. cause there was all the imported midi at the bottom. but the names on em dont make sense. they look like they are from another tune
Danny says: yeah i cant explain either o well
Then later he asks me if i remastered a "promo tune" a tune for him. says it's legit but i hear vinyl pops in the file.....
James Rize says: (3:03:12 AM)not into file sharing at all tho. shit kills me
Danny says: (3:03:18 AM)did u like the remix of shooting star
Danny says: (3:03:26 AM)fuck no
Danny says: (3:03:35 AM)i hate file sharing
James Rize says: (3:03:37 AM)yah. that was a vinyl rip. i could hear the pops. storms rmx
Danny says: (3:04:08 AM)yeah i got that tune from a mate
Danny says: (3:04:27 AM)no way stopping it really
James Rize says: (3:06:36 AM)shits fucked. i'm off to bed man.
Danny says: (3:06:42 AM)ok
So I stop working on the tune until he sends over some very promising vocals that i couldnt turn down. I finished out the tune and made sure to not send over the project file because i think he's shady. Honestly i should have just not finished it.. but I get the vox and compare em to what he had sent...
Rize:
Hey man. all good. The tune you're talking about is called "Falling In Remix".. it was done by simon apex and a couple others. the original was on subsonic underground. the remix is unreleased. I'm not allowed to give it out at all tho. :-/
As for Keep on dancing... its fucked. the tune that you sent over was at 175 with audio files for the lead and bass at that speed.... the vocals are at around 170 but even those need alot of editing. I dont want to timestretch em to 175 because they are already very quiet and it may hurt the vox as they are. It's going to be a day or 2 before i get it to where it needs to be. I have the old midi so will be able to patch it up but give me a little time to do so and make it sound good. just out of curiosity, how is this tune going to be credited? i'm sending it off to supreme when it's done so i need to know. :)
peace!
Rize:
here it is m8.
Coggin:
nice work you gonna start sending em off to labels ?ill do the same but yeah let me know
Coggin:

Rize:
can you feel it would be cool. But id rather see vinyl. I'm hoping for ----- or ------- depending on who wants the remix.------- want to do an album remix for --------------- 4. Will see what plays out and go with the best option.
I'm up for something new. Will clean up the project and get it your way.
J
Coggin:
yeah i rather see the tune go on vinyl then digital yeah i talked to modulate said it can get signed possibly to them but lets see how your thing goes yeah get me project when you can ta you rekon the tune should be credited danny coggin Vs Rize Keep on dancing Featuring Marie Louise or Star Rizer Vs Rize Keep on dancing featuring marie louise im wanting to make more tune under that alias name so yeah just want to see whats the best career move cuz think the tune will do pretty well also we need to make a radio edit i can get it airplay on radio1 and ches fm fresh fm in australia let me know!!
------------------------------------
Ok. so he bugs me over and over again for a the project files but i dont want to send it until I get a confirm from the label. Once I got it, I sent the files over.. then I Get this:
-------------------------------------------
Coggin:
hey mate how are u going how are things wanted to let you know on what i decided about kod well the thing is me and my mate orginally wrote the tune ages ago and its been sitting around and he was not fussed on the tune and said do whatever so i was thinking be cool if u and me do a mix on it and then yeah he said lets get back on it so were doing a new mix of it and releasing it gonna use new fx leads bass kicks pretty much alot of things diffrent but i did come up with the melody and etc so yeah and i did sort out to record the vocals so the mix that u and me did we can either call it rize vs dc mix or just a rize mix whatever u want do whatever u want with ur mix all good and also im pretty sure i can get the dyce tune released to a label that might be keen with it so your cool with that i will let them know and then they can sort out contracts for both of us so let me know what u want to do with the dyce no point for it to just be sitting around on our computers so if thats cool i wll tell the mate to give it a go hope your having a great holidays mate take care
Rize:
Who did you do kod with?
Coggin:
my mate essi like i said we wrote it ages ago but wasnt fussed on it so i thaught it be ok to do it with u i talked to him and i explained u and me started a mix dont worry im dodgy im not release ur mix him and me will do a new one we might be able to get urs released as a remix
also have work for hire contract with lou for keep on dancing and me and essi came up with the track melody and etc and the only thing is i sent u the project and u made your own lead and changed the bass and put in fx and had to work on her vocal but like i said and will say it one more time we are not using your mix.
--------------------------------------
I'm done messing with this guy. i wrote a fucking tune for him based on some fucked up partial arrangement he sent over and he just thinks he can change the kick and some FX and then call mine a remix of something he did with someone else?
So the long and short of it is.. this guys is a fucking fraud. The fact that he has a label affil on Executive is bullshit considering he doesnt even know how to use production software. I know I should have stopped working with him long before it got to this point and I have to live with that mistake because i bought into bullshit excuses. It's a mistake I wont be making again. I'm just trying to make sure noone else gets fucked around by this utterly sad excuse for a hardcore producer.

OK! so I had a conversation with Essi. We're both on the same page. As it turns out Danny Coggin sent me a tune, claiming it as his own, for me to finish out. It was actually written by Essi.. not Danny. The original concept was Essi's and I agree that he deserves credit. We have both agreed that I was lied to by Danny Coggin about the legitimacy of the tune and we were both repeatedly misled.
On an up note. I think Essi is quite good and genuinely hope all this blows over.
