I'll be the first to admit that I have, on occasion, questioned my sanity for returning to WL this year...as much as I love the north's wide open spaces and clean air, it's a tough spot to be as a single 31 year old lady..But I returned, perhaps out of stubbornness, I'm not sure...Whatever the reason, I can say with certainty that today I am feeling incredibly lucky to be here..things to be thankful for include...
1. I have a job that challenges me..physically and emotionally. I feel needed, and that perhaps I am making a difference, if only a small one, in the lives of some of these kids..I love my job!
2. We have real winter here!!! I have been skiing everyday...from my front door..around the lake..fresh snow..mmmmm...
3. Staff party last night..good food, good beer...amazing company...
4. Woke up this morning cozy in my own bed, to 2 ridiculously happy dogs..
5. Went back to sleep until 10, because it was still dark...short days are good for catching up on beauty sleep and reading in bed til mid morning, without that damn old sun taunting me to get outside!
6. Organic dark roast coffee and eggnog..
7. The family connection..my family is obsessed with keeping in touch...I love it..
8. Skiied around the lake again, to ease that special feeling that one too many yukon gold beer can give you..
9. WHEN IN ROME?? I threw my environmental conscience out the window (just for today, I promise..)and went skidooing for the rest of the day...and I'll be the first to admit that it was F.U.N!!!! blazing trails through the backcountry, making a fire, and filling my belly with smokies and smores...mmmmm...
10. It's not -45 anymore..-6..HEAT WAVE.
11. The grocery truck came to town today..and while it didn't flip over this time, enciting a riot of locals picking up mangoes and heads of cabbage off the road, it did bring some yummy goodies..
12.hot bath and green tea..
There is something to be said for simplicity..
