Bad news, we had to clip a few more shows off the tour on account of my hoarse voice. I'm very sorry. It's frustrating. The upside is that by taking more time off, I should heal up to be able to finish off the rest of the tour dates (including the soon to be released West Coast dates). And with meds, training, and a lot of rest, I should be back to 100% in the next couple of months.

I think a few people might be wondering "so why did your voice bug out?"

I'll try to answer that according to the vocal docs explanation...

Basically, the biggest issue is that we went from playing a handful of show dates in the Spring and Summer to diving right into a full time schedule in mid-August. Essentially, I wasn't vocally prepared for the jump. To compensate for my lack of vocal strength, I would do something called "yelling on pitch," which is basically what it sounds like... yelling on key with the songs. On top of that, I've been singing wrong, breathing wrong, not warming up, not cooling down, and a whole host of "singing no-no's" that led to this vocal exhaustion.

Some contributing issues include allergies and acid reflux at night.

Add it all up and we're lucky that I didn't develop something called "Vocal Cord Nodules" (which can be really devastating). The "damage" I have done is very temporary and easy to fix, but it requires a bit of time... and until I get that time this December, I need longer breaks between sets of shows.

The good news (other than having no permanent damage) is that I am getting the vocal training I need... so apparently, I'll actually start singing better than I have been. Which is very cool!

So that's the scoop! See ya on the road.

I regret to announce that we have cancelled the next five dates on the tour:

October:
10 - Douglas, WY
11 - Rock Springs, WY
12 - Ogden, UT
13 - Ogden, UT
14 - Layton, UT

Last Friday in Fargo, ND, my voice started to really weaken and in Gillette, WY, we were only able to do 5 songs of our set. While I tried to take special care of my voice during our break time and we all spent a lot of time in prayer, I woke up today unable to sing. It's very frustrating. In seven years of performing, I can list the shows we've cancelled on one hand. So to have to cancel as many shows in one week as we have in seven years is really humbling.

To all of you who were planning on being at one of those shows, please accept my apologies.

For the Ogden/Layton fans, please be aware that we are scheduled to play in the Salt Lake City/Sandy, UT area (just under an hour away from you) on Thursday, October18.

Please pray for me as I go seek out some professional and medical advice. I would like to resolve this situation.

We've got a lot of great shows coming up in August and September.  In fact, we start our busy schedule tomorrow and it continues through September 23.  We're very excited about every show, but I want to point out one show in August that is of special sentimental significance to us and the one that all of you within a couple hours of Denver should try to get to if you could only choose one.

On Friday, August 31st, "The Garage" says goodbye and will be closing its doors.  Lead promoter and MC, Jackson Marring, told us that he was sensing God leading him in other directions with his life and he wanted to do the last show with us.  This is an especially big honor as we were one of the first artists he booked (maybe THE first) for "The Garage" during his tenure.  So to be there for the beginning and to be there for the end is especially significant to us.

Kinda makes me feel old, too.

Anyway, show starts at 6pm and goes until 10:30pm or 11pm.  We're headlining the show and we're playing a full set (hard to believe, I know).  And it's only $5.  We would really love to see you there.  I know Jackson would love to see you there as well.  Especially if any show at the Garage ever had a significant impact on you (whether we played it or not), I really think you should go out and show your support.  (Go to The Garage's MySpace page for more info).

Besides... there is that whole "other guitarist" thing going on with us... and last I checked, we really haven't said much about that and probably won't until that show.

Right... so MySpace is having some issues with the music player code.  It seems that any bands listing 5 songs are unable to make any of their songs downloadable.  Weird.  Our web guy noticed that bands with 4 songs or less don't seem to be having that trouble.

So... we're just going to list four songs in hopes that it solves the problem.  I know, I know... "The more the merrier..."  As soon as MySpace techs figure out the issue, we'll put a 5th song back up for your enjoyment (you know, if you purchase your own CD, you can listen to even more than 5 songs!).

For now, we had to decide which songs to keep.  So I'll explain the logic behind the songs we kept on the player... in reverse order...

4.  In Jesus' Name - So after constant badgering all summer long by a select group of people (aka "The IJN Special Interest Group" we call them) the empire of Three Cord Wonder has relented and just added the song.  Now you can put the song on your profile for five minutes until you find your new favorite song.  Besides, it's a good object lesson... no matter how tough your opponent, how big your government, or how right the other person is, the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

3.  Made Perfect - Of course!  Seriously, that's the song everyone in the world needs to hear... or at least that's what every female we've ever met has told us after hearing the song.  I still think "We're Getting Nowhere Fast" by "This Train" is the song everyone in the world needs to hear, but I'm not a girl so what do I know...

2.  This Is Life - Partly because I think the chord progression might be almost identical to Tom Petty's "Learning To Fly" and partly because you can interpret the meaning of the song to everything from starting something new, ending something old, and almost anything else that isn't morally compromised, I figure it's a good song to keep up because of its universal application.  Plus it's one of those slow fast songs... or maybe it's a fast slow song... either way, most people seem to like it.

1.  Who I Am Today - Other than Made Perfect, we probably hear the most about this song.  Fans love it, the industry hates it... and since we love fans and share mutual feelings with the industry, the song stays!

So there you have it.  Please enjoy the music or let the music enjoy you.

Hi there!  Don't forget that if you're going ot message us, you need to be our friend.  We got a great message from Lydia in the UK asking for the chords to one of our songs.  And I was ready to send the chords and lyrics only to find out that because she didn't add us as a friend, I can't message her, add her, comment, or anything.

And she may never find out!

So yeah, add us... because we WANT to respond to you and we almost always do... but only if we CAN!

P.S.  Lydia of the UK, if you're reading this... ADD US and message us again so we can get you the music!  And thanks for the huge compliment of wanting to play the song to your church.

The following was written about us in a recent local publication... enjoy!

***

"Three Cord Wonder, who is also appearing at [event name removed], is from Denver. Their sound is influenced by bands like The O'Needers, Jimmy and The Herdsmen, I Am Spartacus, and Del Paxton. Three Cord Wonder band members Cap'n Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters often perform on a bare stage..."

***

Classic!  Absolutely classic!  My favorite part is "Three Cord Wonder band members Cap'n Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters..."  That's a riot!  As if "Cap'n Geech..." wasn't enough of a band name, it's as if we would want to make up a different band name for our real band name (if that makes any sense, which it doesn't).  At least you can say the writer did read our info on MySpace.  In the end, it's probably the best April Fool's joke we've ever pulled... and we didn't even do it on purpose... or on April Fool's Day!

Speaking of names, for $100 I could go to the county courthouse and have my name changed from Joe to Cap'n Geech.  Anyone want to sponsor that?  I'll even let you choose my new middle name.  I'm just not sure what to do with Ben and Josh... maybe Ben could be "Shrimp Shack" and Josh could be "Shooters."

-Joe

P.S.  If you don't understand what's so funny, go rent "That Thing You Do" at Blockbuster.  Rated PG, good fun, great message about the music industry that hasn't changed much since the 60's.

P.S.2.  By the way, this incident only solifies our conviction that we continue to not take ourselves seriously.

P.S.3.  This is almost as funny (to me) as a title for a plug about us in a recent issue of a major music magazine that leads off with "Like Punk Music?"  ("Why yes, in fact, we do "like punk music," and as with most fans of "punk music," we recognize that we're probably anything else").

Hey everyone... so MySpace gave us the space to put on one more song.  You can't see it, because you have to scroll down on the player... but we put up a copy of "Made Perfect" from our indie CD.  And, we've made it available for FREE DOWNLOAD.  So, download the song into your computer, ipod, mp3 player, whatever you want, make a CD, send it to all your friends, whatever... just help us share God's Love with everyone through this song.
