A message from Mike

Eternal gratitude to Ulf Strandberg who persuaded me to record this song while in Copenhagen a while back (he also mixed and mastered it)... and to J.D. Rugiero for the use of his Piano. And as always to Anna Andren for just being such a beautiful person .. and allowing me to BE ..xoxMW

To live content with small means,

to seek elegance rather than luxury, and

refinement rather than fashion,

to be worthy, not respectable, and

wealthy, not rich,

to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly,

to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart,

to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely,

await occasions, hurry never,

in a word to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious,
grow up through the common, this is to be my symphony.

 William Henry Channing

I believe in a Universal Health Care System ... because I don..t want to live
in a society where I have to avoid walking or driving through the large chunks of it that have been left out of the prosperity.
We ghettoise our own countries and simplify the debate down to a question of Winners and Losers.
The upshot being that it..s the losers own fault. I don..t know if that is true or not
but I do know that I don..t like having to step over homeless people when I walk into the mall with my daughter. It..s not a good look.
My ex and I just payed a few thousand dollars for a back(orthotic) brace for our daughter.
We could have waited 6 months for one through the public health care system but she needed it now ... so we payed.
But I still don..t mind paying an extra couple of cents in each of my tax dollars
to provide basic healthcare for everybody, including myself and my family.

The same goes for a Public Education system that works.
I recently saw figures showing the decline in funding for the public school system in Australia from 1996 - 2008.
(The years that the conservatives/John Howard/ were in power)
It was a long term, calculated hatchet job.
And if they had their way there would be a permanent under-educated underclass,
just like the ..good old days...
F#@K that !
Our parents and grandparents worked hard, payed their taxes in the belief that they were taking part in in an ongoing process.
That is, the development of a society where everyone is basically equal.
Some people are always going to be more equal than others .. and I can live with that
but I don..t have to contribute to making the situation worse than it is.
Business takes care of business ..
which is why we elect officials to make sure that our societies do their best
to cater to the basic needs of everyone.
When our elected officials are in the pockets of Big Business (ie. Private Health Insurance companies)
... we are in deep, deep shit.
When multi millionaire Rock Stars scalp their own tickets (Bon Jovi and others)
it makes a mockery of this beautiful thing called music ... and the trust that exists between an Artist and his/her audience.
(And I am glad that Mr Springsteen spoke up about this)
And don..t get me started on ..youth marketers... The ones that create targeted subliminal campaigns aimed at 2-3 year olds.
They call them ..future potential consumers... I call them CHILDREN.
We might deserve this sorry state of affairs because we and our legislators rolled over
for all of these low-lifes but our children deserve better.

August 15, 2009 - Saturday
I got down to Notes last night (Enmore Road in Newtown) a little late
so I missed the Hendrix set. But ... I did arrive in time for the second set,
which I was very pleased about.
I had forgotten what a monster this guy is ... really !
Playing a strat, he tore his way through a bunch of classic material
( Zep, Thin Lizzy, Stevie Ray, ACDC and more ! )
No smoke and mirrors here !
Just an awesome rhythm section in the shape of Gordon Rytmeister on Drums
and Paul Macshane on Bass ...
and between the three of them a ton of light and shade.
These guys are practitioners. Jungle Warfare at it..s finest !
It was an extra buzz for me catching up with Gordon.
He..s played with just about everyone .. including me in a past life
when I co-wrote some stuff and then fronted (for a New York minute)
 a band called Colour Blue.
He..s currently holding down the Australian Idol drummer slot as well
so with all the guitar playing Steve also does on other peoples records
in between his Live dates it..s fair to say that these are a bunch of busy boys.
Steve is a gracious entertainer, giving 110% to his audiences,
both on the axe and vocally.
Hangs around and talks to the fans,
even suggested I grab the numbers of his rhythm section.
In show business this is very rare .. and the sign of a true gentleman.
They do a Harbour Cruise every once in a while,
which I will try to catch and if you..re a SydneySider I recommend you do too !

p.s For dates check Steve..s page. He..s in my Top Friends.

March 5, 2009 - Thursday

well that..s ok because you will get the gist of who I am after a little while
if you just follow your heart and read between the lines.
Then you can make up your own mind as to whether Wildeworld is of interest to you.
In the entertainment business it is actually quite common to say things like ...
let..s make this bullshit real !
The idea is that it is just fantasy until you record it and get it out there (music that is)
I needed to come home because I needed to live where my heart is,
because that will inform the way I play the guitar and the piano
and how I feel when I am performing.
I need to play Live where I write about.
Writing and Recording is great but I need to see the conection between what I play
and an audience that is getting something out of it.
And it really makes no difference whether I perform songs that I write or not.
Because I was singing long before I started writing.
There are so many beautiful songs out there.
I want you to come to my shows and leave feeling better than when you came.
I want to perform stuff
that fundamentally takes you to a cool place to be for a couple of hours.
I want to win your trust.
