Hamilton Bohannon is one of the most important figures in disco, house, and up tempo dance music. Born in Newman, Georgia on March 7th 1942 Hamilton was hired by Stevie Wonder as his touring drummer in 1965 and moved to detroit. He was quickly hired as an arranger and producer by Motown president Bary Gordy. Hamilton enjoyed mixed reviews at motown as was remember by Motown's house band "the Wrecking Crew" as "a little weird."

Hamilton did have a hit though, a 1965 collaboration with a 15 year old girl named Carolyn Crawford "My smile's just a frown turned upside down" went to 1

13 years later these two would strike gold again.

In 1972 when motown moved to los angeles Bohannon stayed behind and was signed as an artist with Dakar/Brunswick records. Over the next two years hamilton, released 6 albums and many singles, but his first success was the single "Disco Stomp" Wich charted on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 1976 he was signed to Mercury records and two years later released his biggest hit "Let's Start the Dance" Wich peaked out at 3 on the R'n'B charts.

Clearly this record was a huge influence on what would later come to be known as house music. And who dropped the super hot lead female vocals on this banger? None other than a now 28 year old Carolyn Crawford!!!

Unfortuneately Bohannons greatest accolade probably came via a shout out in Tom Tom Club's 1981 Hit Single "Genius of Love"

and for the DJs:
Let's Start the Dance (extended mix)

I had a blast this week, with too many beers drank, plenty of weed smoked, and probably a good 1000 records played!

Wednesday I did a little guest spot over at senger's. Big up to Lexi for coming out and being my one woman party crew. You do it too it girl!!!

Thursday I was back at Bar Bar for funky Cadavers. This weeks installment was kind of a trip 'cause this really cute (yet weird) girl wandered in off the street and started playing records with us. She had ohio players and rose royce on tap... couldn't mix a record to save her life, but she was still dope. I can't remember her name and I think Deft beat me to the punch on getting her number.... oh well. Also some 50 year old black man in a leather fadora and rope chain started freestyling over the whispers and kool and the gang. He was spitting hot FI-YAH!!!!

Friday I hit first friday at Santa Fe.... and was kind of disappointed. I haven't been to a first friday on Santa Fe for quite a while. I heard the more "upstanding" gallerys were trying to run off all the "rowdy" gallerys. I guess they succeeded! I really miss the days of gallery's on santa fe like revolutiones, fakture, doja, and even xzanthia... wtf? Is there no home for outsider art in denver? I did suceed in taking this picture though:

I think this is pretty self explanitory.

Anyways, after first friday I went to go meet my friend Carina in Lodo. When I got to 15th and Blake, there were some people jumping rope seen here:
Long story short, Carina jumps in, her shoe breaks and she takes a header on 15th cutting her wrist and hitting her head.
She was a total trooper though, continuing to drink like a sailor on shore leave. I did have to give her a piggy back ride home though.

Saturday me and B Rad did an Illionaires show at the house on 29th and York were Brian, Chris, Liza, and a bunch of other cool arts type people live. I love these folks... we djed a party here last summer when Goldenchyld and Platurn were in town... The Party was a total bash with a good 200 people turning out. We played from about 10pm till 4:30 in the morning. At about 1am we had the crowd eating out of our palms and ready to dance to anything. I actually started dropping stuff like holiday rap, baby don't hurt me, and believe it or not ghostbusters!?!?!?!  I couldn't believe it, People were shouting "GHOSTBUSTERS" at the top of thier lungs as I cut the chorus out! Truly Unruly!!!

So in closing I had a good time this weekend and would like to send a special thanks out to Lulu, Cole, Brian, Maxine, Brad, McNutts, Deftron, Lee and Ray Parker Jr.

Hey anybody who's reading this... next time you are having a house party and need a dj.... who you gonna call?

Current mood:  amorous
I guess I really didn't keep up on this thing too well.... I'm gonna have to make it up right now.
First Off:
Mickey Factz: Automatic
I have no idea who dropped the vocals on this, but ish is hot as fuck!!
Uptempo chill out banger.... some cats have been calling this sound "vibe"
essentialy it's 120bmp breakbeat with a chill club sound
see: Snoop Dogg's "sensual seduction" or.....
Ballgreezy "shone"

in related news british electro mavericks hot chip have put out one of the funniest covers I've ever heard.....

wtf.... this really has a great sound, and chip seems to lend a certain urgency and sincerity to the vocals lacking from the original version. I LOVE IT!
Also it reminds me of my friends minus story from lawrence kansas who covered the misfits punk rock must "hybrid moments" into kind of an ethereal lullaby...
Minus Theory: Hybrid Moments
god I love this song!!!! I'll never forget the first time I heard the misfits and I'll never forget the first time I heard this cover. FOUR MOTHERFUCKING STARS!!!!!

So, as some of you may be aware, I've been taking it back to the old school lately with my new bi weekly at bar bar "Funky Cadavers"
I spend a lot of time every week researching and digging up these "cadavers" for your listening pleasure... and am proud to say I have the only true school night in denver.... anyways.... I wanted to take a minute to talk about one of my favorite "forgotten" artists from the late seventies/early eighties... Patrice Rushen
Patrice Rushen was born in 9-30-54 in Los Angeles, California. She was considered a child musical prodigy an won the 1972 Monterey Jazz Festival award at the age of 18. Patrice is probably best known for her 1982 hit single "forget me nots"

because it was sampled by will smith for the "Men in Black" theme song(GROSSSSS!!!!)
Unfortuneately Patrice is not known for her many achievments such as being the first female musical director of the grammy's, emmy's, and naacp image awards or recieving the Ascap "women in songwriting" award in 1994.
My personal two favorite songs from patrice are her 1979 single
"Haven't You Heard?"

this is truly one of the greatest songs of the disco era.
My other fave is a 1982 slow jam b-side
"Remind Me"

Dude, what can I say about this???? I mean slow jams don't really get better than this. I'm pretty sure this record came with condoms.
Finally.... for the DJs:
Remind Me
Forget Me Nots
and full lengths in .rar!!!!!
1980 Pizzazz
1982 Straight From The Heart

well, enjoy guys!!!! Hope my book report didn't bore you too much. I'll try to keep up on this blog business in the future.

So, I've never blogged before. Hey, what's the root of the word blog anyways? Well first off I'd just like to say thanks to all the amazing people who come out to my events. I couldn't possibly do it without you. For the record, my name is Adam Zimmerli and I am the booking manager at bender's tavern.
This is me:

also I'm the world circus peanut eating champion:

I don't like to talk about that much.

I like a shit ton of different music, particularly old school punk, old school hip-hop, party jams, and house. Weird right? I started ADM as a promotional engine for all the electronic music I'm into and bring out all the acts I want to work with. I really try to hook it up as much as possible, and know that I try hard to keep my ticket prices low and hook up some killer drink specials.

I'm gonna try to get on here and put something up once a week or so. So here's this weeks hot track:Lady Tigra-Bass on the bottom (troublemaker remix)
My boy Troublemaker cut this track with lady tigra of L'trim fame (cars that go boom!!!!!!!!)
Peep the video
