I guess I really didn't keep up on this thing too well.... I'm gonna have to make it up right now.
First Off:
Mickey Factz: AutomaticI have no idea who dropped the vocals on this, but ish is hot as fuck!!
Uptempo chill out banger.... some cats have been calling this sound "vibe"
essentialy it's 120bmp breakbeat with a chill club sound
see: Snoop Dogg's "sensual seduction" or.....
Ballgreezy "shone"
in related news british electro mavericks hot chip have put out one of the funniest covers I've ever heard.....
wtf.... this really has a great sound, and chip seems to lend a certain urgency and sincerity to the vocals lacking from the original version. I LOVE IT!
Also it reminds me of my friends minus story from lawrence kansas who covered the misfits punk rock must "hybrid moments" into kind of an ethereal lullaby...
Minus Theory: Hybrid Momentsgod I love this song!!!! I'll never forget the first time I heard the misfits and I'll never forget the first time I heard this cover. FOUR MOTHERFUCKING STARS!!!!!
So, as some of you may be aware, I've been taking it back to the old school lately with my new bi weekly at bar bar "Funky Cadavers"
I spend a lot of time every week researching and digging up these "cadavers" for your listening pleasure... and am proud to say I have the only true school night in denver.... anyways.... I wanted to take a minute to talk about one of my favorite "forgotten" artists from the late seventies/early eighties... Patrice Rushen
Patrice Rushen was born in 9-30-54 in Los Angeles, California. She was considered a child musical prodigy an won the 1972 Monterey Jazz Festival award at the age of 18. Patrice is probably best known for her 1982 hit single "forget me nots"
because it was sampled by will smith for the "Men in Black" theme song(GROSSSSS!!!!)
Unfortuneately Patrice is not known for her many achievments such as being the first female musical director of the grammy's, emmy's, and naacp image awards or recieving the Ascap "women in songwriting" award in 1994.
My personal two favorite songs from patrice are her 1979 single
"Haven't You Heard?"
this is truly one of the greatest songs of the disco era.
My other fave is a 1982 slow jam b-side
"Remind Me"
Dude, what can I say about this???? I mean slow jams don't really get better than this. I'm pretty sure this record came with condoms.
Finally.... for the DJs:
Remind MeForget Me Notsand full lengths in .rar!!!!!
1980 Pizzazz1982 Straight From The Heartwell, enjoy guys!!!! Hope my book report didn't bore you too much. I'll try to keep up on this blog business in the future.
