"Only Gets Better" on Atlanta's Rock 100.5! Well, it's been two days since we finished mastering the new record, and already it's getting radio play! Not a bad start! Tonight on Atlanta's Rock Station, 100.5, English Nick gave our song "Only Gets Better" a spin.
"It Only Gets Better From Here" indeed!

Last night we played an added-at-the-last-minute show at Queen Bee on Mansell Road in Alpharetta, and it was a lot of fun! Queen Bee is a steaks and seafood joint, with an "upscale blues house" aesthetic. Nice dark woods all around, with music-related historic photos and artwork on the walls. The coolest part was the outdoor patio with a raised stone firepit under a gazebo-like roof. What a great place to chill, have a drink and hear music!
The owners, David and Beth, were very gracious and turned out to be fans of ours from way back when we played the 99x Oysterfest in Buckhead (before Buckhead was razed)!. They're revamping the place to be a regular live music venue, and asked us to kick off the renovations. David even built us a stage earlier that day! Some of the staff from their two other restaurants showed up around midnight, after their shifts, so we played a little longer for them, and we had a blast anyway!
Hopefully we'll be back to play the room regularly in 2009. Definitely go check it our if you're in the area!

Thursday, October 23rd, The Beggars' Guild is thrilled to be a part of Two Wheel Driver, a benefit combining Motorcycles, Music and Golf to raise money to fight Cancer. This show will feature Shot From Guns (Bain Mattox), The Beggars' Guild, and The Wrights.
Founder Mark Augustyn Tells the story:
On Thanksgiving 2003, I lost my fiancé Randee DeMartino to cancer; she was just 29 years old. During our two year ordeal, we received an outpouring of support from the Atlanta and New York City areas to cope with $100,000 in medical bills. Words can't convey the significance of this help.
As anyone who has experienced grief can attest to, the journey of healing is an individual one. In my case, it started by fulfilling a life long dream of becoming a motorcycle rider the spring after Randee passed. Forty thousand (40,000) miles later, with a couple of solo cross country trips under my belt, the therapy of being a motorcycle rider fused with my passion for golf. Inevitably, this led to the strapping of my golf clubs to my motorcycle and riding off to play distant courses, and hence the name was born…TWO WHEEL dRIVER. Additionally, as a lifelong musician and Atlanta venue manager, music has played a tremendous role for me throughout the entire ordeal, perhaps best exemplified by a series of benefit concerts I organized for Randee at Smith's Olde Bar as she fought the disease.
Inspired by real life events, TWO WHEEL dRIVER is a unique and inspiring 'philanthropic road show' fusing motorcycles, golf, and music to raise money for the battle against cancer in communities across America via the newly established Randee Foundation, celebrity charity golf tournaments and benefit concerts. In the vein of 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' , Oprah's 'Big Give' and Ewan McGregor's 'Long Way Round', TWO WHEEL dRIVER is a traveling tribute to Randee and everyone else dealing with cancer. It is also an opportunity for me to give something back.

Here's a review of our EP "Breaking Me Down" in the new Southeast Performer Magazine:
The Beggars' Guild "Breaking Me Down" Produced and Mixed by Dan Hannon Mastered by Glenn Schick at Glenn Schick Mastering, Atlanta, GA
After months spent etching their name in the Southeast scene, playing countless shows and cutting their teeth in the studio, The Beggars' Guild have a lot riding on this debut release. Thankfully, the band's influences shine right through on this six-song album, leaving everyone wondering when this quartet will inevitably expand their roots beyond Atlanta. Their folk-pop sound will surely resonate with a much larger geographic audience.
T.J. Edmond's vocals emulate those of a young Tom Petty on the bouncy opener, "Minnesota (Always Leaving)," but there are a few times that are also reminiscent of Counting Crows' Adam Duritz. However, Edmond's voice is most effective when he is crooning in the style of the former.
On the CD's title track, the chorus stays simple as it repeats itself over and over, but still finds a way to be extremely catchy. As a matter of fact, all six songs boast radio-friendly qualities.
With fine instrumentation from Will McNeill and straightforward rhythms and beats from bassist Greg Shapiro and drummer Jon Chalden, The Beggars' Guild shouldn't be far from landing that elusive record deal. Certainly a foray outside of Atlanta will bring with it some deserved attention, both fan and industry alike. (Favorite Gentlemen)
