We posted a bunch of pictures of our art show at the CIA last week.  There are lots of cool shots of the wonderful freaks, shrunken heads, sideshow ephemera and other strange and creepy decor. See all this, plus the beautiful mugs of Noah and Shawn, as well as their art display from Fright Night.

Just want to let everyone know that the Hexxers comic we've been working on is now done. It is a 16 page promo comic that we did for the Hexxers and Golly Gee Records to promote their new live CD, Buried Alive. If you haven't heard the Hexxers, you should! Savage, primal, desperate garage rock in the vein of the Sonics and the Stooges. The comic came out good too, if I say so myself. Fans of Untamed Highway will dig it. You can buythe comic and live CD together at www.untamedhighway.com/UntamedHighwayMerchandisePage
or at www.gollygeerecords.com

This comic was a lot of fun to do and hopefully will be lot o fun to read, too.  We want to thank the Hexxers, Mel Spinella and Golly Gee records again for letting us do this!

We just finished working on the Hexxers promo comic which we did for Golly Gee Records.  We are very proud of this, and the art has been a big step forward for us.  It is at the printers as we speak.  It will be availalable along with the Hexxers upcoming live CD, for which we also did the cover.  We'll let everyone know when it's available.  The Hexxers are playing at Borders in Orange on Oct 29th and it should be available there.  We are also slated to do a comic signing before the show.  Much thanks to the Hexxers and Mel Spinella for letting us do this project.

In Untamed Highway news, I just finished writing the first draft of the third issue.  There will be more suspense than humor in this issue...some questions will be answered but many more will arise.  We plan to start drawing before the month's out.  Until then, we will be working on t-shirt and sticker designs.

Here's our latest review from Poopsheet.com. We were pretty excited about this, as they nailed a lot of our influences dead on, and the reviewer just seemed to really "get it". It's this kind of feedback that makes all the long hours chained to a drawing board worth it! Here goes... I’m glad Ricko invited me to review this: Untamed Highway was an unexpected treat. It’s one of those stories that defies comparison. While it’s tempting to describe it as “the secret love child of Harvey Kurtzman and David Lynch” or some such, that downplays the book’s originality. In a similar vein, I would liken the art style to British cartoonist Hunt Emerson, but that’s just because it reminds me more of Emerson than anybody else. The indicia doesn’t make clear how Dickinson and Snodgrass divide the writing and art chores. But they seem to have a smooth working relationship: story and art are equally nutty. The basic plot will be familiar to fans of hard-boiled fiction: A likable loser gets mixed up with a gang of weirdos, who coerce him into doing their dirty work; intrigue and danger immediately follow. In execution, though, it’s closer to The Big Lebowski than a Jim Thompson novel. And like Lebowski, Untamed made me laugh out loud several times. Shawn and Noah have a great, wacked-out sense of humor. Our “hero” is Syd Drake, a bespectacled schmo in a cheap suit and Elvis pompadour. He’s on the run from “Bananas” Barofski, a gangster who wears a permanently-affixed gorilla mask, and who faked his own death in a bowling accident. Drake is recruited by a Shriner-like secret society of wackos, “The Eye in the Wasteland,” who wear the craziest headgear since Fred Flintstone’s Royal Order of Water Buffaloes. The Eye gang, who are obsessed with roadside attractions, have their own beef with Barofski — but Drake learns too late that they’re just as dangerous. Add to this a bar decorated in tiki masks and Easter Island heads; a gruesome sideshow exhibit that turns out to be the “McGuffin” everybody’s after; some hilarious dialogue exchanges; and an unexpected cameo by Ed Wood performer Tor Johnson. Issue ..1 ends on a cliffhanger, but it’s well worth your four bucks; there’s a lot of comedy and oddball action crammed into these 32 pages. If you’re a fan of comedy in the style of Kurtzman’s Mad, check this one out.

For all those of you who are anxiously awaiting Untamed Highway ..2, here is the latest update. We are about 5 pages away from being done, then we will have the covers and letters page to do. With all the detail in the comic, plus our busy schedules, it takes us about a week to do each page...but we are trying to haul ass because we're anxious to get it done, and we have a couple of other projects to work on before we start on UH ..3. I'm projecting a release date for some time in August. I'll probably post another update when it's almost done, then again when it's actually back from the printers. This issue is going to actually get Syd out on the road, and into some action, whereas ..1 was all setup. There will be some wacky new characters as well.
