Many thanks for the great comments on Friction Fiction 41 (Midsummer) from Tom MacNiven, Countryside, and all. Much appreciated.

If you haven't listened, you haven't missed it yet. It runs when you go to my profile.

The show has my poetry and music from CDK, Squid Ink (Plastic Dave), a great collaboration between Squid Ink and The Hexyl Circle (that's me), Tom MacNiven, and Countryside.

Additional music by Alphasound, Penston, DJ Rkod, Michael Wenz, and Bombero.

I don't mean overtly anti-war, but I do write poems with a theme of political power, neighbour versus neighbour, calls to arms, and division. So why did the RAF choose the day I'm recording Friction Fiction to try out their fighters overhead? Coincidence? Paranoid? Anyway, it makes for a poignant moment.

So I'm putting the finishing touches to a show full of poetry and music: CDK, Squid Ink (Plastic Dave), a great collaboration between Squid Ink and The Hexyl Circle, Tom MacNiven, and Countryside.

Additional music by Alphasound, Penston, DJ Rkod, Michael Wenz, and Bombero.

I was setting out
To write a poem
From a simple idea
That came from bombardment
With images each day-
Shoelaces.

Were the victims thinking
When they tied them that morning-
Just another day?

But then I realised
I had a moral purpose.
Should a poet have a moral purpose?
Or should it be disguised
Beneath a bag of wordplay?

Yes indeed, Friction Fiction 41 is on the drawing board. Meanwhile, I haven't been resting. I've been blogging poetry on my website iandsmith.com and writing satire on holditupforridicule.com. I also learned Photoshop. I've also written some songs in collaboration with Plastic Dave. I've collected some great new sounds. Keep listening out.

Sorry, there was no time for previews. I just managed to get the whole show recorded and uploaded before setting off into the sunset for a few weeks. It's Friction Fiction time, the 40th. The milestone show. Music from Bombero, Submariner, Tommy Mac, J Marinelli, and Christopher David. And poetry from my collection, What You Will See, plus a new poem crafted out of enormous restless intellect.

"His work was so nightmarish that, after he recited his poetry, just seven out of 70 students attended the next lecture." – The Sun 19/4/2007

I rue the day I went to hear
Sueng Cho the nightmare poet.
His work was so nightmarish
No nightmare could compare.
His subject matter
Was not to my taste,
It was not my cup of tea.
In future, I would rather have my fingernails
Pulled than listen to Sueng Cho,
Sueng Cho the nightmare poet.

We laughed our way home.
How Seung Cho kept away from us.
He was a loner, a loser, a strange one that one.
Nothing he could do
Would make me want to hear
Sueng Cho the nightmare poet,
Nothing.

I told him, why don't you do something
And then I will take you seriously?
Today, the class is quieter than ever.
I wonder whether Sueng Cho is coming
To read more of his dreadful verse.
