7/20/09 Tom "Goose" Gilbert crowned World Reuben Eating Champion in Marshal Michigan....
.. Pastrami Joe's 4th Annual World Reuben Eating Championship featured a world record performance by Tom "Goose" Gilbert who devoured 6 Reuben Sandwiches while also earning $750 for his performance. Sandwiches weighed in at .75 lbs per Sandwich and challenged Food Warriors in a way that only a Reuben sandwich can. Specifically the landscape of sauerkraut, bread, corn beef and cheese is particularly difficult because of the different textures and form that comprise the diverse ingredients of the Pastrami Joe Reuben Sandwich never allow for a steady and organized eating approach. In second place was Bob "Killer" Kuhns who downed 5.50 monster Reuben Sandwiches for 2nd place and $350. The battle for the final money spot featured a classic chowdown between avid Ohio buckeye fan Mark Lyle "The Human Vacuum" and Battle Creeks own Jake "The Butcher" Casey who is an avid Michigan supporter who hates all things Ohio. Big Jake Casey edged out "The Human Vacuum" and took third place by eating 4.75 Reuben sandwiches to lyle's 4.60 Reubens. Rounding out the field in this extremely difficult discipline was Joel "The Cannon" Podelsky and Chris "The American" Schlesinger who finished with 4.1 and 3.75 Reubens respectively...
