A few weeks ago we spent almost a month in New York working at one of the truly chic cabarets in the country, the world-famous Cafe Carlyle, located on the Upper East Side.  It's a tiny 100 seat room where you're so close to your audience it feels like you're entertaining in your living room, and you don't eat garlic before you go onstage!  Such legendary performers as Woody Allen (every Monday night with his jazz band), Eartha Kitt, Joan Collins, Rita Moreno (who's won every award there is--Academy Award, Emmy, Tony), and of course, the "toast of New York" who put the club on the map--Bobby Short up until his death.   The Carlyle Hotel has been the home of many US presidents in New York when they were in office: Reagan, Carter, Nixon, Kennedy, Johnson, Truman.  The late Jackie Kennedy used to be seen at the Cafe Carlyle.

We sang some of our hits from The 5th Dimension which audiences love to hear and bring back wonderful memories.  In that beautiful elegant room, people were letting loose with, "Let the sunshine in..."  We sang a little jazz, a little blues, and songs from our new CD, "The Many Faces of Love" and saw couples hugging up (we love seeing that!).

One of the cool things about being in New York is the friends you get a chance to see.  Living in LA, everything is so spread out; it's hard to run into one another unless it's at a major event.  Old friends came to hang out with us at the Carlyle, people like songwriter Jimmy Webb ("Up, Up and Away", "Worst That Could Happen" and so many of our hits) with his beautiful wife, Laura Savini of New York Public Television.  Singer, songwriter Phoebe Snow ("Poetry Man") came by and we reminisced about the shows we've done together. Elaine Strich, who's been doing her own award-winning one woman show--"Elaine Strich: At Liberty"--stopped in.  We met when we were doing "Show Boat".  We were thrilled when Paul Shaeffer, the musical director from The Letterman Show, spent an evening with us in the middle of his demanding schedule.

While we were there, we did The "Today Show" with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, "Fox and Family", and a bunch of radio promoting our CD, "The Many Faces of Love".  Although our schedule was pretty jammed, we did get a chance to see the new hit musical, "Passing Strange".  Congratulations to Stew for winning that Tony award!!

It was a fun time; we felt good, and wiped out, when we returned home to our own bed.

Our new CD, The Many Faces of Love, is now available at www.cdbaby.com/cd/mccoodavisjr.  Purchase a physical copy of the CD to access great extras such as an exclusive video interview, bonus tracks and song lyrics!
