ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

The Audra Green Music For A Cause (MFAC) Foundation is a charitable organization with a focus on raising awareness and money for youth HIV/AIDS prevention programs, teen pregnancy and youth-on-youth violence prevention. The founder is 18-year-old Hip-Hop artist Audra. Audra, a.k.a. Diva of Virginia, is an artist whose love of music has inspired her to couple her passion with her concerns.

On May 31, 2008 Audra presented the inaugural benefit event - an outdoor concert and dance competition. Audra has already identified her initial projects and is hoping that the Music For A Cause concert will help raise the funds needed to get the programs up and running.

Over 40 artists from the Richmond and Hampton Roads area donated their time and talent to support this cause and this 18-year-old artist. Audra's says this speaks highly of the kind heart and camaraderie of the VA 2up 2down music community.

The event was hosted by DJ Swirv Deniro of iPower 92.1 radio. Gospel, R&B and Hip-Hop/Rap artist took the stage from 12:00pm - 8:00pm at the Dale Ruritan Club grounds in Chesterfield, off of Route 10 Ironbridge Rd.

Music Music For A Cause has aligned itself with YouthAIDS which is an education and prevention program of the non-profit organization Population Services International (PSI).

Audra states that Music For A Cause shares with YouthAIDS, the belief that music is a common denominator that connect people regardless of their differences. Audra believes that music can be a powerful tool for reaching people, especially youth. Kate Roberts, Founder and Director of Youths says "music inspires, music communicates, music transforms…quite simply, music matters." AIDS kills one child every minute. Every fifteen seconds, another person age 15 – 24 becomes infected with HIV/AIDS. Roberts also states "YouthAIDs knows the importance of mobilizing the talent and resources of the music industry as well as fostering international understanding through songs as a way to raise awareness and to provide support." YouthAIDS was quite excited about having Audra and her foundation, the Audra Green Music For A Cause Foundation, become an associate. YouthAIDS will be providing pamphlets, DVDs and other material as well as lending their corporate name and logo in support of this event.

Plans for Music For A Cause also include working with SAVE – Students Against Violence Everywhere. "SAVE is a student driven organization where students learn about alternatives to violence and practice what they learn through school and community service projects. As they participate in SAVE activities, students learn crime prevention and conflict management skills and the virtues of good citizenship, civility, and nonviolence." MFAC will partner with schools and community groups to start SAVE chapters and to help finance the training for student facilitators. Audra is hoping to be able to work with middle schools especially, by arranging concerts and information sharing sessions with youth. Audra says that's why this concert fundraiser is so important. "We just can not leave everything up to parents and law enforcement alone, as youth, there is plenty we can do, we can exert positive peer pressure. That's why we will initially focus on middle schools – those years can be rough, the bullying that takes place can be devastating for some, the pressure to fit in is overwhelming."
