I love to play the Native American flute. It offers an incredible amount of freedom of expression. It is the mouthpiece through which one can vocalize the ineffable.
What really makes this song work is the wonderful orchestral ambience created by Jivananda playing his guitar/synth. Performing with the sounds he can create is like being in a movie.
Due to the 4 song limitation on MySpace this song has been moved to http://www.concrescence.com/mp3 .

My most recent project has been a band called Mak Tribal Jam Band. I just pulled the plug on this project as it didn't reach the potential I had envisioned. It's difficult, without the resources to keep a band of 6 or 7 people together and I needed to move beyond as there is also a certain tyranny to a band and the pace at which it can evolve.
Mak did have some great moments and made some great music. This song is one I am particularly proud of. It was one of those magic moments when we were all on the same page and went to another level.
This cut features George Edwards on drum set, Jamie Krutz on guitar, Lee Bagby on conga, Dave Miller on shaker and yours truly on didgeridoo. From the Witches' Ball in October of 2005. Much of the inspiration was provded by Serpent Moon Dance, a group of lovely ladies who are phenomenal dancers.

Life has its ups and downs. I live in the middle of the city, just up the hill from downtown. This song came together one day recently when I needed to vent my frustrations about things, particularly that stupid war.
As of the last official report, over 655,000 humans have paid the ultimate price for this mad gamble. How could we let this happen? You had better get off your butts and vote tomorrow!

I needed some ambience for a didgeridoo song so I recorded three sysnthesizer tracks using software-driven synths. The patterns interweave with each other nicely with lots of LFO's.
While editing, I failed to notice that my laptop was recording through the little condenser microphone in front and it recorded me and my wife horsing around making ghost noises. When I heard the recording it became an inspiration for this song. What would New Age music sound like in hell?
Several layers of the voice recordings are used along with some effects.

My mother died last year. There was a period of two months when she became a science project as some of her caregivers refused to let her die with dignity.
I came up with Creation during this period. It's obviously a sad song and it is played on a Native American flute as it is from her that I inherited my small percentage of Lakota Sioux.
Part of my philosophy about music is that there should be no formal rules. That is why I prefer more primitive instruments. It would be impossible for someone at my level to play this expressively on a silver flute; it wouldn't make sense and it doesn't resolve itself musically according to the "rules."
The teiko pulse and opening "primal sounds" are provided by a software-based MiniMoog V.
