Song Seeds

As you read this there are song seeds traveling around Lansing, MI.

A song seed is a song that has yet to germinate.  It has only been heard by it's writer. (in this case, me)  The first of these seeds was written just days ago.  For the song to be born and to grow, the songs seeds must be carried to Magdalena's Tea House on April 11th at 8pm, unopened.  During the show, I will ask anyone if they have a song seed.  If so, folks will be asked to open the seeds, read the lyrics and the song will be played for the first time.  And forever more, the song can only be played live if there is someone present who has heard the song at least once.

It is you who breathe life into songs.
By listening, you nurture and grow what would be dormant without you.

Due to a last minute line-up change we felt it in our best interest to turn the Oct. 4th show into a pajama Party!!

Here is the 411.

Indie.Folk.Improvised

What do you think of this catch phrase?  The improvised part is mainly up to you though.  You are the part of the show I cannot and would not want to control.  You are free to attend, free to bring your pajamas, free to laugh, free to cry, free to be you.  The part of this show I can control is the decor.  I plan to bring rugs, pillows and maybe an armchair.   Would you like to do the same?  Would you like to turn this space into a living room?  Well okay, let's do it.

Lemonjello's does it real nice.  They pay attention to little details.  On the wall when you walk in there is nicely designed sign that asks, "Care about your space:  We have a one drink minnimum, Be nice to the people around you, and something else i can't remember.  Most people get more than one drink because they all rock.  They sell bulk coffee, souvineers, and have great music.  I like the people I meet there.  I like playing there. Thanks Lemonjello's.

Hi Friends!

I deleted all my songs and then added a new one.  This is why.  I want you to listen to this spoken word/tune with your eyes closed all the way through and then tell me what images appear in your head.

I plan to make a film short to accompany this piece and I need your help.

Love,

Chris

Chris Dorman, of Lansing, is a musician, a father, and a friend to the community.  Songwriting has developed as a natural medium for him to share the swirling emotions he feels living in an ever changing, and unpredictable age.  His songs are both gentle and strong.  He injects his thoughts and feelings into his music, and often writes about his friends and family. Inspired by the birth of his son, now 9 months old, Chris is releasing a full length album, To Begin Again.  Recorded and released with Earthwork Music, the album is diversely textured and reflects upon personal and global transitions. It's on the way to being heard by a wider audience, starting with Lansing on Friday, May 30th.

Laurel Premo shares a music full of life that draws from Appalachian, Celtic, Contemporary folk, Cajun, Bluegrass, and Scandinavian roots. From haunting old ballads to feverish instrumental compositions, her music is made for all ears. Laurel collaborates in arts and music in the Ann Arbor area, as well as in the Upper Peninsula, her home.

Visit my site to view a video made by Chris Singer from Lansing.

Chris recently visited The Nyaka AIDS Orphans School in Uganda. The photographs in this video are from his trip. It hit me hard to look into the eyes of children orphaned by the AIDS Epidemic in Africa and know that they are a few hudred of millions who share the same fate.
Please take a minute to watch this video and to learn more about the Nyaka School visit http://www. nyakaschool. org

I am honored to share "Live True" to lend to this badly needed and amazing work done by these folks.

Thanks,

Chris

So, I have heard that most of our existence can be summed up into a quanatative amount, but I am wondering.......what are some examples of instances in our lives that can only be described in an emotional, non-numerical value?  Do you all have any ideas?

Hi !!

I put a new song on the first spot of my player called "All Roads Lead Home"

I wrote this song about the travel adventures of my early "adult-hood".  My lust for freedom and spontaneity lead me many places, all across the country.  Two tracks not even living up to their name, sleeping under the stars, people, places, things I did not know existed !!  And then the adventure continued with a turn I never expected to hold so dear.  Meeting Corie, connecting on a new level, transcending limitations, and creating a little boy named Henry redefined "Home"  So now here I am, and here is this song.  The lyrics are vague and maybe that is why I was inspired to write this story to you.  Let me know what you think.
