So we made it to Los Angeles  on Sunday and played a L’Keg, and played the Echo on Monday night. At the Echo we played really late and a bunch of people left, of those remaining, half bought a CD or T-shirt.  Sweet!  Sunday night we stayed for free at the Hilton in Burbank.  Sweet.  We hung out all day near Muscle Beach and on Santa Monica Pier.  There was an awesome arcade on the pier.  For the first time I played a Star Trek arcade game.  It was a Star Trek Voyager shooting game. I killed many Borg.  Then I was assimilated.   Galaga is by far my favorite arcade game.  Frazier killed all the deer in Arkansas.  Well in the deer hunting game. Monday  night we stayed at Danny from Rainbow Arabia’s house and I slept outside.  In the morning a guy came to weed-eat the backyard and he was startled by me in my sleeping bag.   We’ve been eating salami, cheese and spinach sandwiches.   We ate those for three meals in a row.  Frazier and I drove In the red Impala for 14.5 hours yesterday  from LA to Portland, OR.  We saw hawks, crows, mountains, almond groves, citrus groves,  bees pollinating the groves, snow, a few golden eagles, and nearly 1000 miles of highway roll past.  Mt. Shasta is a white behemoth.

The gps guided us all around Tucson thrift stores. We had a picnic in the park. All the trees drooped with citrus fruit. I think the pigeons are smaller in Tucson, everything is bigger in texas? Food Conspiracy Co-op fed us our breakfast, and I went for a run in the morning. Tucson feels like a small town everywhere, I’m used to the traffic and pace of Austin, which is not really that fast to begin with, but Tucson seems really sleepy. I couldn’t stop staring at the mountains in the distance, which brings me to another thing: Visibility here is extremely good. You can see really far. I guess that is why there is an Air Force Base here. On my run, I saw fighter jets swooping in formation over the city. The sound was not like what passenger planes make, a constant rumble modulated by the Doppler effect. These fighter jets (which were A-10 Thunderbolts, I came to find out later) changed directions quickly and the sound would change quickly as well. I thought they were either F15s or F-22s. The show was at Plush and we played early. In the beginning of the set there were eight people watching and about thirty at the end. One of the people who came in later was Linda from the Tucson weekly. We end up staying at her guest house. The next band, Standby Red 5, played ethereal music ala explosions in the sky. The rhythm section would have this synced up riff while the guitars would twinkle and drone away, then they would all crash together at the end. The last band was Ottersey, like an otter odyssey. They were a trio of guitar, bass and drums. Both the guitarist and bassist sang and the songs were really smart and straight ahead. The bassist had a drum pad and supplemented percussion sounds with his playing and the guitarist utilized finger picking to achieve their dynamic. Great guys, too. We met James, who is in the Air Force and informed me about the A-10s and he bought us lots of drinks. Lots. I could not finish a beer without another being handed to me. Thanks James. I also met Patrick who has a girlfriend in Austin who knows Rubber Robot. My girlfriend is 13 hours away, too. Another gentleman educated me in minimalist composers. Then the GPS guided us to Linda’s place which is beautiful. Everything is that pink adobe color and cactus are everywhere. Gozo is the dog friend of Linda he is an old sheep dog with long hair on his face, he loves company and has cateract. There are two rows of aloe that lead up to the front door. Thanks to you too, Linda.

Today begins the first day of the West Coast Transmography 2009 Bailout Tour.  Thirteen hours of driving, nearly three tanks of gas,  no show,  but we are in Tucson where our show is tomorrow.  I saw many vultures, a falcon, a red tailed hawk, wind farm, dairy farm, mountains, desert,  shooting star (i did make a wish) and a lot of highway.  Also, I saw an ambulance in the middle of know where new mexico and there seemed to be nothing around for at least 50 miles either direction.  It blinked from at least five miles away before I could makes out what it actually was. I wonder where it came from and where it was going?  Was it some routine call or important visit?  Did they make it on time?  Is Transmography's red Impala like the ambulance in the dark far away from the trauma and the hospital?  Tonight the Surly Wench filled our bellies with Lagunitas IPA and Hotel Congress is where we lay our heads.  Check in tomorrow for more updates.
