Hey All,
I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported us over the last few years. Whether that means aided the band, gave us a show, came to a show or just bobbed your head. It has been a constant encouragement and it gave us the strength to finish our first full-length album.
In these troubled financial times, one might think it is crazy to invest in a record, especially when it could very soon be a thing of the past. Well someone like myself appreciates being able to splice a tangled cassette back together or blow on a nintendo cartridge to make it work. I had to have it in my hands and on my shelf. Don't worry, the record will be available for full-album or single-song download as well.
It is a record though; a record of an event. A record of two siblings who stumbled into music and a band called Conehead Buddha, a record of friends and innocence lost, a record of revelation, a record of old colleagues and influences joining together to create an energy, and a record of 24 hours in the Easter Island Studios on the banks of the Hudson.
We went in to just get a couple of songs and what we came out with was an album. By the time we were set-up and had gotten sounds, it was late. We figured let's party tonight and run through a bunch of songs. That way we could listen to the run through and pick the 3 or 4 songs that were closest to being ready for recording.
A bottle of Jameson and two cases of beer later, we realized that we actually had something here. We wanted to make a record just right with all the bells and whistles, dress it up real pretty and give it all kinds of compliments, maybe even take it to a matinee...I digress.
When we listened back we found a pure representation of what LYNCH has always been about. A group of great friends and listeners starting a fire with a simple groove and story, fanning that fire with our individual flares into a dancing blue flame that yearns to grow higher.
We have never been well rehearsed and have always thrived off the live music experience, the energy of the moment. The band has seen many faces, all old friends who have crossed paths over the early years of the jam scene. It was always the Black Sabbath heads that I gravitated towards and that was always the kind of rock I wanted to meld with my hip-hop influences. This incarnation of the band has been the most consistent over the last few years and has really come into its own.
Four of the tracks were kept from the Friday night session. One take though, live in separate isolation booths except for the bass and drums. Colin and Jim were in the same room and the foundation they created made this event possible. Suke was on fire and ripped all of his guitar solos on the spot in the midst of the song. The next morning we discussed the other six songs over breakfast. We decided to do two takes and keep the better one. At this time we had already committed to the idea of not doubling parts and instead trying to capture the moment of our live sound.
All of Jim's, Colin's and Suke's parts on the record were recorded live in the studio. All of Shannon's sax and flute solos were captured live as well. About 90% of the vocals were live. We went in and fixed some lines that got effed up or were just sang poorly. During a concert, I often jump from vocal line to horn line, sacrificing the beginning or end of a phrase to keep it cohesive. For the recording I focused on the vocal to allow for the completion of words and good full breaths. I also didn't want to bring down the band's morale with my horn playing. Our friends Brian Goss and Bob Irwin laid down some guitar tracks at a later time to add a little texture to our creation. Neal Spitzer also played baritone sax on the first song. Brian wrote a couple of these songs with me and he and Neal often join us live. Brian's brother Tommy Goss is our drummer when Jim is out with moe.
So on February 13th we will have "At the End of My Rope" in our hands and wish to celebrate it with all of you. The 13th will be the first of 3 Release Parties, with the other two in my hometowns of Leeds and Albany. The CD will be half price at these shows. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.
Your continued support is greatly appreciated. Please tell a friend, a priest, perhaps a great booking agent you know. We want to give this album some wings and see just how far it can fly. Thank you for joining us on our musical journey...Terry

Current mood:halloweeny
The Lynch Horns (Terry, Shannon, and Lynch newcomer Brian) became "The Bad Ass Mother Fucker Horns" while sitting in with U-Melt during their Halloween performance at Revolution Hall (Troy).
The show kicked off U-Melt's Fall tour and was themed "Gangsters and Gagballs." The mobster dressed audience was trick-or-TREATED to a host of Pulp Fiction covers, all with "The Bad Ass Mother Fucker Horns" adding some funk while scenes from the movie added visual delight.
