Many great shows in just two days with some amazing fights. Here is a review of 4 of the weekends offerings:
> Kos vs Diego: Sure there are plenty that will be upset that this was such a "boring" fight but let's be honest, Kos had a gameplan and executed it perfectly. Diego, whatever his gameplan happened to be, ended up at the mercy of whatever Kos wanted to do. Not a slugfest, but two great fighters with one making the other fight completely on his terms.
> Butterbean vs Zulu Jr.: This fight may go down in history as one of the greatest battles of all time. Not since the last ADCC championship round have I seen two such skilled ground fighters go at each other. There was more BJJ used in this single fight than in an entire year in the Brazillian Top Team gym. The submission attempts, the counters, the sweeps, the takedowns, the sprawls... it was like watching a classic chess match betweened seasoned masters. I have a feeling that we will rarely, if ever, see ground-work like that again. It was a once in a lifetime experience.
> Matt Serra vs GSP: All I have to say is that a lot of people, lost a lot of money... while a very few people, made a lot of money. (GSP might have been in the 2nd group.) ;)
> And finally, James Thompson vs Don Frye: Was sure to be a slugfest. JT, love him or hate him, always shows us a good fight and he was sure to "gong & dash," then pound it out. Frye was of course, Frye... ominous, intimidating, and tough as nails. But with JT's fists working like hammers I think it was a nail that was pounded one too many times. Or 100+ too many times. Frye's a tough man, all props. But well done JT, you the man.
And farwell Sakikabara, thank you for the memories.
