FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCAL BANDS LATEST CHARITY EVENT BENEFITS THEIR OWN.

Flint, MI – November 28, 2009 Girl Scout Hand Grenade Hosts the “Cancer is Bad Tour” at the Machine Shop to benefit Bass Player Andrew Hargrove.

When Girl Scout Hand Grenade Bass Player Andrew Hargrove was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in August of this year, the local music community was devastated and there was an immediate response to help. Upon learning that this form of cancer is often very treatable but without insurance, extremely expensive, the band reorganized to perform as a four piece set out to raise money for their band mates mounting medical costs.

Offers from other bands to help poured in as the news of Andrew’s condition spread. Punk band Dick Hickey was the first to throw a benefit show for the bassist in Port Huron and over a dozen other bands offered their support. Because of Andrew’s involvement in the music community and Girl Scout Hand Grenade’s notoriety for other charity events (the band hosts the annual Food For Music event during the holidays to raise money for the Eastern Michigan Food Bank and plays numerous benefit shows throughout the year) throwing a series of benefit shows to raise money for Andrew and awareness of this disease just made sense.

The “tour” will kick off at the Machine Shop (3539 S. Dort Hwy. Flint, MI 48507) Saturday, November 28th with an 18 and over show featuring: Girl Scout Hand Grenade, A Sleepless Malice, Blood of the Unborn, Fernando’s Xcursion, Dick Hickey, and C.I. Doors are at 7 with a $5 cover for 21+ $8 18-20. Local business and bands have donated items for a silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle drawing will run most of the night.

An All Ages benefit will follow at the Second Generation Ballroom (4437 Richfield Road Flint, MI 48506) on Friday, December 11th, with bands: I Once Was…, Given Six, The 2nd System, Pearl Snap Western Brown and more TBA.

Girl Scout Hand Grenade is extremely grateful for all the support and would like to thank the Machine Shop and the Music Scene Entertainment for booking the events. Further Shows are in the works for the Detroit and Lansing area.

so good news or bad news first?

bad news i guess to get it outta the way. as you may or may not know our bass player Andrew was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma (lymph node cancer for those that dont know). this definetly sucks a lot but the good news of it is that it is one of the most treatable forms of cancer. he has started treatment and is doing really well. We all hope for a speedy recovery for our brother in arms. (keep him in your thoughts, prayers, sacrifices or whatever it is you do).

we will be playing a few shows here and there without him with our keyboardist filling in on bass and we are trying to get some benefit shows together to raise money to help him cover hospital and chemo costs. if you have any suggestions or can help out at all let us know.

on the good news front our myspace is preparing for a makeover and we have finally recieved the pressed copies of our new c.d. "Arm The Children".

we are playing this friday in flint and next sunday @ DM3 fest so come out support and help us through these tough times.

also we are still slaving away on the new songs for the full length (obviously things are being pushed back a bit)

peace, love, and hand grenades,

mike

denver was amazing. awesome city. really cool people. and great scene. if you get a chance definetly go without hesitation.  it is a little cold though so bring your long underwear. we played the Rock and Roll Grill on friday which is a very cool all ages place in downtwon denver. all the bands were very cool AprilMayReign (http://www.myspace.com/aprilmayreign ), Calculating Genocide (http://www.myspace.com/calculatinggenocide ), The Red Dawn Riseshttp://www.myspace.com/thereddawnrises ), The Butcher of Prague (http://www.myspace.com/thebutcherofprague ), and Fear of Asthetics (http://www.myspace.com/fearofaesthetics  ). Thank you for making it worth the 19 hour (one way) drive also thank you to all the kids up front dancing and clapping along you guys were amazing. we cant wait to come rock you all again( for those that weren't there: i broke a string in the first song, andrew cut his hand open and bled all over the stage, tonya broke her mic cable and then stole mine, tahir played half a song with one stick, the sampler stopped working, there was some amazing ear destroying feedback, i threw my guitar and screamed into my amp, and we managed to squeeze all of this mayhem into a fifteen minute set). thank you Brian (the Rock and Roll Grill) for having us out. thank you for the sandwiches as well (and the bagel for me the jerk ass vegetarian). it was an awesome show. we will definetly be back as soon as we can. we will get pics up as soon as we can too.

and of course what trip to denver would be complete without a trip to Casa Bonita!! if you dont watch south park you may not quite realize the epic importance of this place, but if you have seen the episode i am referring to than no further explanation is required. for those of that haven't seen it Casa Bonita is baiscally a hucklberry junction/chuckie cheese type establishment done up mexican food style. there is cliff diving, gun fights, pirates, a magic show, ski ball, a puppet show, strolling musicians (who definetly sang tonya an early birthday song. it was fantastic!), an arcade, a scary pirate cave, flame juggling, and a whole bunch of other amazing crap. they call themselves the world's most exciting restaurant and they are definetly on to something there. they also have some all you can eat mexican food that i think permanently destroyed my digestive tract but in spite of the food it was great.

and then it was 19 hours back home but made it back in one piece.

make sure you check out all the bands we played with and also if anyone has pictures from the show please send them our way so we can post them (thank you!)

also we are almost finally done compiling our tour diary from the east coast tour so that should be up soon. (sorry it took so long we are dumb asses)
