Northern Labour Party is back in the studio for our 2nd EP. It is our intent for this next release to embody more of a live feel. As such, we are recording most tracks in only 1 or 2 takes, making very quick decisions on sounds we're using, and printing our live energy to tape, er, hard disk.
Last week we finished up tracking all the guitar and bass parts for the first 4 songs of the EP. Recording is moving along well and we are all pleased with the overall vibe of the songs and how they are turning out. This EP is hopefully going to capture the passion and energy of our live set.
We have started recording the synthesizer parts, and they sound good thus far. We did some experimenting with routing the Alesis Andromeda into the Moog Voyager's filters, and then routing the Moog output to an ARP Solus with the ARP's filter self-oscillating, and then the ARP back into the Moog 's input. We're hoping to create some sonically interesting tones that are a little more unpredictable than past efforts, yet still yielding very musical and melodic results. We'll see how it pans out.
Tonight Dex will be returning to Slumlord Studios to lay down some more analog keys to the EP. Thursday Scott will begin tracking vocals for the first 4 songs of the record. Like always we would love to hear from you so don’t be a stranger...drop us a line to say hi.
