Ask me at any time of the day what Classical Music station in Los Angeles I listen to, and I'll tell you "91.5".  Ask me what LA Classical station I recommend, and the answer will stay the same.  Ask me about K-Mozart – 105.1, and I'll tell you to stay away from the Classical Music top 40, and tune into K-USC 91.5, NPR member supported radio, because they have the most amazing and diverse line up of any Classical Music station in the country and with no commercials.  This is my standard answer, and has been for several years now.  However, starting Monday at 6:00am, K-Mozart will switch formats to an all Country music line up, and Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Puccini, Donizetti, Verdi, Britten, Vaughn Williams, Debussy, Faure, Prokofiev, and all the other great composers of great music will be silenced.  105.1 was never my favorite station, but I was glad that it was there and was often quick to point out that it was a sort of Classical Music gateway drug.  The more one listened and enjoyed, the more one was to discover the more diverse programming down at 91.5 and switch over.   In this chaotic world that we live in, the need for divine musical inspiration is more paramount then ever.  I sit in my living room for hours and listen to music, with my chair and sofa covered with LP jackets and CD cases, but not everyone has the wherewithal that I have, and must rely on the radio.

Music serves as a form of nourishment for me, and without it, I perish and die.  It's true that I didn't listened to K-Mozart as often, but I was glad that it was out there. Somewhere, some young musician, moving his radio dial might hear something that would have a profound effect. The great musical masters have had been silenced on another radio station, and it is a sad day for Los Angeles.  Thank God for K-USC, and Thank God for Music.
