It's official... Ozma album number four will be released in North America on May 15, 2007 by About A Girl Records, through Lunaticworks / Reincarnate Music / Sony BMG. We're going to keep filling you in on details like album title & track listing as soon as they get confirmed... so stay tuned, a lot of great stuff's gonna start happening quickly! We have half of it mixed and it sounds killer. We're finishing up vocals and overdubs on the other half now. Does anyone else watch Mexican television? I mean specifically, Telefutura's Escandalo TV, more specifically, "La Fea Mas Bella," "Asi Es La Vida," or "Tres Mujeres" ?? Cause I would have to say that these shows have really "fueled" the recording of our new album, particularly in the "mojo" department. You gotta tune in, trust me, you'll learn more Spanish too. And now... check out this awesome collection of some of the most artistic posters from past Ozma shows (many of them by the excellent designer, our friend Kochis) -- Oh, and, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!! Especially to my fellow heartbroken and sorrowed friends. Let us indubitably re-christen this "SINGLES AWARENESS NIGHT 2007." Here's how Jose and I spent our Valentine's Day: Godspeed!

Some days are filled with thrills, some are filled with spills. Monday of last week was definitely filled with one major thrill. A good friend, a hero, and a scholar by the name of Matthew Caws came by the studio to visit. Little did he know when he walked in, i would make him play a guitar track for the new ozma album that we are currently working on.
Matthew is the lead singer of Nada Surf, one of my favorite bands of all time, not to mention my first REAL CLUB show I ever attended back in '95. You really should see them play or buy their records because this band is just awesome. I'm lucky enough to even run lights for them on tour and shit. Now that I've successfully name dropped the hell out of this blog... enjoy a video of the experience.
I threw him into this situation and he responded wonderfully. I love lucking out hardcore! -- Jose

OZMA hit 20,000 friends today! Maybe you know that 20,000 is a special number for us... it appears in the lyrics to 2 of our songs. So we're having a mini-celebration and we wanted to include you. We've been hard at work on our album in the recording studio, but on a day off last Friday Star & I got a chance to play some songs together & edit together a 4 min video. The lighting is kinda dim but that's how we like it.
Also we wanted to remind you that for the first time in several years we have T-SHIRTS for sale ONLINE!!! These "Space Boombox" design tees were printed for our reunion shows in March 2006 and will not be reprinted once they're sold out!! Click through the image below to get to our store:
Anyway we still love our fans after all these years... our goal is to double our MySpace friends by the time our album comes out in April/May. We don't use any bots or anything so if you can help us achieve that goal by putting us in your Top 8 or directing your friends to our page we'd really appreciate it. Peace!! Daniel, Ryen, Kenn, Jose, & Star P.S. I'm not positive but I think this Irish dude over at www.myspace.com/swallowingshoes was our 20,000th friend so I checked out his music and it was actually kind of dopely awesome. Check him out and tell him OZMA sent you!!!

Well, we have been recording our new album for over a week at Loveless Motel Recording Studios ("LMRS"), and let me tell you... we have really been bringin' the love. The bulk of the tracking so far has been Kenn on the drums, and he's doing a great job -- he knocked out the 2 hardest, fastest songs in the first few hours of tracking. Yesterday we did 3 bass tracks, for "Fight The Darkness," "If I Were You," and "Song in D." (Song titles may change.) On "Song in D" our producer/engineer Billy Burke made some real studio magic happen when I asked him to help me experiment with fuzz bass tone. By the end of our experiments we were running through 2 bass amp heads and 2 Neve preamps with 2 mics on my 6x10 cabinet, as well as a DI box, for a total of 4 different tones, and we had the mixer automated to turn the fuzz tone on and off in certain sections. Another cool discovery was that Billy's RCA ribbon mic from the late 1930s has a really sweet natural tone, it really puts you "right there in the room with the singer." We used that on the vocal tracks for "I Wonder." We're not really sure yet exactly which songs will go on the record, and I don't want to blow the surprise, but I will say some other new songs we have been working on are being referred to as "Uptown," "Kid Icarus," "Commuter Music," and "Lunch Break." We can't wait to get this album out and into your ears... it's sounding great so far and we're having lots of fun tracking together (for the first time in 4 years). One of our friends who has been helping us out a lot with this album (he will remain anonymous until the album comes out) snapped off a few pictures over the past couple days. The Loveless Motel is very orange...

OZMA BOOMBOX T-SHIRT ORDERING
We're finally done with our touring for the year, and we have some t-shirts lying around, so we decided there was only one prudent thing to do: open up an online store and start shipping em straight to yr door. These are black tees with the Ozma Boombox design (art by Dylan J. Hay-Chapman of Service Group) printed in light blue & white. These were the first Ozma t-shirts printed for our reunion shows in March 2006; there is limited stock and once they're gone, they're gone for good... orders placed by Dec. 15 should arrive by Dec. 25.

Current mood: optimistic
We can all look forward to a new Ozma album in spring/summer 2007... after being self-managed for more than 10 years we are working with a new management team for the first time ever and we're very stoked on them. We have some very good options for distribution and it looks like we will be tracking the new record in December and January... producer TBA but some good choices on the table... but we are narrowing down the tracklisting and it's shaping up to be an awesome record. Will post more details as they materialize. Word!!
