I got to meet Booker T. Jones, and it was awesome! Let me tell y'all about it. Started with Twitter, on a Monday afternoon. I follow Criminal Records and they announced Booker was appearing on Wednesday, 4/01. My first thought was "April fools." Then I discovered that Booker was playing a gig in ATL later that evening. Then two more media outlets announced his arrival so I decided it was necessary to be there. What to take!?!? I grabbed my Hammond organ manual and ran out the door. It couldn't have gone more smoothly. Parking was a cinch despite limited spaces and rush hour traffic. I walked casually into the store only to find no line! I was first on line. About fifteen minutes later, the legendary organist walked into the store towards me and about 20 folks. Stopping midway to browse the store's record selection, it was clear he's a cool dude. When he got closer I began to feel my nerves! He sat on the provided stool behind a glass display case, and I approached. I removed a black sharpie from my back pocket and handed it to him, even though there were 5 sharpies laying on the display case. Then I placed my organ manual down and muttered "I was hoping you'd sign this for me." "OK" he smiled back. Then slowly he looked up at me, from below his hat brim, and said, "do you have one of these?!?" "Yes sir!" I quickly replied. "Can you split it?" he asked. I couldn't believe that I was having a conversation with legendary Jones. We proceeded to spend about five minutes discussing my modern Hammond - an eternity in the world of autograph lines - much to the chagrin of the folks behind me. While Booker finished his personalized autograph, I felt incredibly giddy. "I really appreciate this, you're a big influence," I said. Walking away towards the exit, I felt compelled to pre-order his new CD, "Potatoe Hole" which will release 4/21. I'm pleased to say that I've gotten a LOT of emails lately from foreign radio stations, requesting my second album Live In 2007. My three faves so far are WYN-FM Melbourne (Australia), 94.1 FM Skopje (Macedonia), and Radio Aria in Longwy (France). I believe the latter is internet-only radio, but I'm not 100% sure. But I think those three places are very cool places to be and I'm thrilled to represent! I will definitely be visiting the post office tomorrow Nick Edelstein on iLike - Add iLike to your MySpace

Guess what?!? Luthier Jonathan Holland is done hot rodding the strat! He did an amazing job too, its tone is killer. From now on it'll be known as a Holland "Hot Rod Mod," retaining the factory Fender "Daphne Blue" paint job and body shape. New neck, custom Holland pickups and controls! "Onward, through the night..." -some of my favorite Yes lyrics. Even though that song speaks of something entirely different than death (I think) they were my first thought when preparing to write this post. I was truly saddened to read in Performer Magazine that the famous guitarist had died on March 2. Thank God I was lucky enough to see him perform. My friends have described his tone as "totally 80s" but I see him on a different plane; his melodic and harmonic harmonies, intense solos, and overcoming physical limitations (blindness) were a constant inspiration to me over the years. My favorite Montreax Jazz Fest. video is of Healey. His big break was appearing in Roadhouse (with Patrick Swayze). And yes, I own a copy of the film. And yes, I bought it years ago because Jeff is in it. My favorite Healey song? "Angel Eyes." You can watch a video of it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRov2XscQJc Jeff truly was a world-class guitarist, all-around musician and entertainer. His stage presence was like that of James Brown or Jim Morrison - raw, uncensored power. May his music continue to inspire new generations! Add iLike to your MySpace - Nick Edelstein on iLike

"T-Bone" Walker was born today (May 28th) in 1910! Wow that means if he was alive today, he'd be 98!!! It's a true testament to his work that, so many decades after his passing, his music continues to touch new ears on stages across the world. I'm betting there isn't a single Blues band alive that has not played at least one T-Bone song, whether they knew it or not. Often when I'm on YouTube or Myspace, I find songs credited to more recently popular artists that were actually written by T-Bone. My favorite is "Stormy Monday." The lyrics touch me differently every time, and no matter how hard we try it never sounds quite the same. There is simply a magic to it which takes on a life of its own. The words have a great power to them even after all these years, I think because there is still great economic struggle in our society. Though we try to ignore it, we are still a nation teeming with poor, suffering souls. T-bone's music, like most original Blues artists', was genuine in every sense. I can only hope to be as prolific as Walker, and I think all artists aspire to the longevity his work will undoubtedly enjoy. Add iLike to your MySpace - Nick Edelstein on iLike

So, I was selected via Sonicbids.com to be reviewed in an issue of Performer Magazine, one of the nation's most prominent Music trade mags. That was sometime in Fall of 2007. Then, I released Live In 2007 on December 1st ('07). Then I sent the record off to Southeast Performer Mag. And I just found out today that it will be in the May issue!!! I'm very excited, to say the least. Since they selected me, I'm thinking it will be a positive review. I'm so excited!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all your support and don't forget to read the May issue. Fans, Friends, Family, lend me your ears! This is the first of many to come, a new series of bulletin posts by yours truly. In these posts we will remember the life and times of great guitarists from the days of yore ... today?
ALBERT KING, b. 1923 (April 25) My favorite song of this legendary artist is Born Under A Bad Sign. It was actually written and recorded by the great William Bell, but I think most Blues afficianados would agree that King's version is the more widely-known. ~Nick Edelstein Add iLike to your MySpace - Nick Edelstein on iLike

Did ya like that alliteration? :) I indeed have the great pleasure of being friends with not one, not two, but all three Shufflejunkies! Y'all who attended my Feb. 16 gig in Dahlonega (@ Crimson Moon) know that Shufflejunkies opened up. They did me a favor that night, and thanks to fate I was able to return that favor not long afterwards - and at the same venue! Shufflejunkies, Georgia's newest Blues-Rock trio, played Crimson Moon on May 2. I grabbed my acoustic, rode shotgun in Andy's truck, and did a riveting 45-min. opening set! I got to see my friend Greer (she drove up from Dunwoody!) Dana's staff was friendlier than ever, and thanks to Bob's awesome engineering our sound was rockin' all night. My next Crimson Moon show is Saturday, May 31!!! http://www.thecrimsonmoon.com/ Add iLike to your MySpace - Nick Edelstein on iLike

Dear Friends, I'm pleased to bring you my AMAZING review by Southeast Performer Magazine! Thank you for all the support I've received over the years! ~Nick ------------------
Nick Edelstein - Live in 2007 Recorded by Robb Holmes, Cliff Anderson, and by Nick Edelstein. Mixed by Nick Edelstein at NESS Records. Mastered by Ben Cornthwaite at Lakefront Studios in Conyers, GA. Athens music native Nick Edelstein takes the listeners on a terrific ride through the world of blues with an online release of live recordings held in venues throughout the Southeast. A record chock-full of strong blues material, including classic blues standards such as "Crossroads," "Stormy Monday" and "Hound Dog," the artist's handywork on lead guitar is impeccably precise, as each live song spills with fervent balance, delivering punchy lead solos galore. Edelstein also shows his intimate and personal side with soft-spoken material, on endearing works such as originals, "Sign from Above," flawlessly recorded at Athens radio station, WUGA-FM, and "Ripple," recorded at a bar in Charlotte, N.C. Although much of the live recordings are very murky and muddy, what is most important is Edelstein's craftsmanship on blues guitar. "Crossroads" churns the album from the start, launching the album's fiery energy and tenacity from the get-go. Certainly a highlight displaying his most superior guitar work falls in the intro and throughout "Red House," a dazzling, mesmerizing statement of guitar-driven blues-rock. Much of the record has some breathtaking guitar work, and his voice suits the blues man, with performances of liquid gold, compared to the swift speed of a dozen horses at Churchhill Downs, as notes flourish like a roaring freight train. Though he has much room to grow and improve, his potential is boundless. He even throws in some great riffs and chops that speak of his influences, possibly reminiscing Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Santana's artistry comes to fruition in a frighteningly well-spoken version of "Europa." It's good to hear much of Edelstein's background through short bits of interviews on WUGA-FM, as he dwells into his work, and his further studies in comparative literature. This incredibly prolific Blues icon was born May 8th, 1911. I could go on and on about his music's influence, but at the moment of this writing I've got Crossroads stuck in my head. So I'll blog about that. Johnson's song was already famous when Eric Clapton entered the Blues scene, but his fresh Rock version propelled Crossroads - and the Blues - into new heights of popularity. A movie of the same name was made starring Ralph Maccio (sic?) and guitarring by the incredible Steve Vai and Ry Cooder. Vai wrote and played most parts of the movie's soundtrack, including a famous duel scene, and Cooder played all of the slide parts. There's some incredible music on that soundtrack if you haven't heard it Thanks for helping me remember this Blues icon, long live his legacy! ~Nick ps: get our version of Crossroads - www.discRevolt.com/nick Add iLike to your MySpace - Nick Edelstein on iLike

I've been listening to these bands off and on for years, but never actually owned any of their music! So I went to my fave store -Decatur CD- and picked up some new tunes! They're in order of best to worst, in my opinion, but they're all really excellent: - Gov't Mule, Deja Voodoo
- REM, Accelerate ***from Athens, GA
- Joe Cocker, Ultimate Collection
- Natalie Cole, Snowfall on the Sahara
- King Johnson, Luck So Strange ***local Atlanta band
- Horace Silver, You Gotta Take A Little Love
- Zappa, Zappa Plays Zappa
