Hi, MySpace Friends--
I started a blog at the end of August. The blog's called Ad Alta Voce, which means "Out Loud" in Italian.
Writing has always been a love of mine and I was curious to see what would be revealed if I faced a blank computer screen every day. Turns out, writing daily has been a transformative and challenging addition to my creative life.
There are well over 200,000 blogs on Wordpress, and every few days, about 9 of them are placed on the Wordpress homepage as a feature. I was honored to have been selected as one of Wordpress's featured blogs last weekend for my post "I ♥ NY." Since then, I've gotten several thousand visitors to Ad Alta Voce.
I just wanted to say thanks to all my friends here on myspace for visiting and lending a virtual "ear" to my musings. Please stop by and share your thoughts when you have a moment!
Love, Hilary http://hilarygardner.wordpress.com

Wow. I'm writing a blog to let you all know about....my new blog. Meta, indeed.
Writing has long been an important part of my life; these days, every single part of my life seems to be in great transition. Music, Love, Spirituality and Career are all flourishing and transforming, so I figured I'd do well to process my thoughts in a more structured way.
Who knows? Maybe my musings will be funny, interesting or -- dare I hope? -- helpful for you to read. After all, whether singing or writing, I believe that creativity is all about communication, connection, truth.
So please stop by, have a look, and leave a comment; I'd love to hear from you! Sure, I'm liberal with my italics and parentheses, but I can assure you my heart is in the right place.
Love, Hilary

Hello, all! I have a few pieces of news that I wanted to share with you here on myspace. 1. I am thrilled to be singing on Moby's new record, "Wait for Me," due to come out on June 30. I'm singing a lovely song of Moby's called "Hope is Gone" and it's my first major-label appearance. He and I continue to write and record together, so I'll keep you posted on how that's going. 2. My cabaret project, now known as West 73rd, has been keeping really busy performing and promoting our Kurt Weill Project. We had a great run at the Metropolitan Room in March (despite my having a truly nasty cold) and are slated to play a handful of great gigs this summer, including Parlor Jazz in Brooklyn, a return to the Metropolitan Room, and Feinstein's at the Regency. To cap it all off, we've been honored with a MAC Award nomination for Best Jazz Recording of 2008. Cross your fingers! 3. I'm now teaching voice. I'm working with classical singers seeking to improve their jazz/cabaret technique, and I'm working with jazz singers who want to solidify their vocal technique. I'm also working with beginners who just want to make singing more a part of their lives. If you fit any of these descriptions and would like to study, please send me an email and we'll set something up! And, finally.... 4. After over 3 years of uptown living, I'm getting ready to move to beautiful Brooklyn in just about a month. To say I'm excited about beginning this new chapter in my life is an understatement. I'll miss being close to Central Park, but my new neighborhood beckons with many charms all its own. Gorgeous, wonderful summer is arriving...these late-Spring days are warm-but-not-hot and the lilacs are in bloom for a few days more. I hope this note finds you all happy and healthy! Love, Hil

Hello, All!
Many of you know that for several years now, I've been a part of a jazz-inflected cabaret project dedicated to exploring the fascinating world of Kurt Weill. Kurt Weill's music has been performed in opera houses, jazz clubs, Broadway theatres, and rock venues. Artists of all stripes have tackled Weill's music, from Mary Martin to Marianne Faithfull, from Bobby Darin to Nick Cave.
And next week, Frank Ponzio, Pete Donovan, Vito Lesczak and I will bring our own interpretations of Kurt Weill's music to the stage of the Metropolitan Room for a five night run (Weds. March 25-Sunday March 29). We're so looking forward to this wonderful opportunity and hope to see you all there! Details are below.
Until then, I hope the fast-approaching Spring finds everyone happy and healthy. Love to all, Hil

Friends,
On January 18, the Kurt Weill Project (fronted by yours truly) had the honor of performing at a soiree hosted by Jacques Fages here in New York City. To our surprise and delight, the New York Times was there covering the event; they wrote very kind words about us in the Monday, January 19, 2009 Metro section. You can read the article by clicking on the link below:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/19/nyregion/19music.htmlpartner=permalink&exprod=permalink
Furthermore, the Kurt Weill Project has just confirmed a 5-day run at the Metropolitan Room in March. We are thrilled to be performing in the venue called "New York's Best Cabaret" by New York Magazine.
I'm looking forward to seeing you at a show sometime soon. Love, Hilary

Many young girls go through a frilly, girly-girl phase, in which everything from shoes to dresses to ice cream to walls must be pink. I never did. Well, until my adulthood, that is. My bed looks like a giant Neapolitan ice cream sundae: chocolate brown and pink polka dots on my sheets, topped with a cotton-candy-pink duvet. My toes, post-pedicure, often sport nails painted a rather obnoxious fuschia. And my little iPod shuffle is not a sensible silver, an icy blue, or a cool green...it's pink. Hey, Picasso embraced his Blue Period, and I have moved unapologetically into my Pink Phase.
Pink also happens to be the color for breast cancer awareness. Breast cancer is a disease that has afflicted thousands of people. I have a close friend who lost her mother to the illness. My own mother has watched a few of her friends weather breast cancer. When you consider that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer within her lifetime, it's safe to estimate that we all probably have a connection to a friend or loved one who has battled--or is battling--breast cancer.
I'm really excited to be participating in the Susan J. Komen Race for the Cure here in New York City on September 14, 2008. A friend and I are running the race, a 5K, together. Soliciting money is not something I have ever felt comfortable doing, but I believe so strongly in this cause that I am posting a link to my page on the Susan J. Komen site.
If you copy and paste the link below into your browser, you'll be directed to my page, where you can make a donation towards fighting breast cancer. You can give ANY amount (there is no such thing as too little or too much; every bit helps!) and you can also give anonymously.

Thank you for supporting me as I race for the cure!

I've had a lot of you ask me when and where you can find the song "Grayer Than Clay" that I've got posted here on my profile. Amiel wrote and produced a wonderful album called "Figures Seeking Ground," which features several different female vocalists; I am very honored to be one of them.
Amiel's "Figures Seeking Ground" is available now on CDBaby! http://cdbaby.com/cd/amiel2
Please stop by his page (in my top friends) and listen to more clips. This is a wonderful album; Amiel's gift for strong melodies and unexpected harmonies are in full evidence, and every lyric is smart, witty, and introspective. Thanks for listening and for your support!

I’m really happy to announce that the new CD by The Kurt Weill Project, "A Song About Forever: Songs by Kurt Weill," is finally available.
Being the voice of the Kurt Weill project has been an extremely rewarding journey, both musically and personally. I wouldn’t call this a "jazz record," per se. It’s more of a jazz-based exploration of an extremely eclectic, fascinating composer.
You can hear and purchase the CD at
www.cdbaby.com/cd/kurtweillproject or www.jazzbeat.com/html/ponzio2.html
If you happen to have a copy of the CD already, or if you listen and like what you hear, please give us a review on CD Baby! Thank you so much for your support.
