Here is the video of 40 Watt Hype performing "La Sombra" on Escandalo TV

In the life of an artist its a series of peaks and valleys.  Getting flown out to Miami FL to be on international TV and hang out for 4 days is a peak.  The program is a popolar show called Escandalo TV.  I would describe it as TMZ meets the view en Espanol.  We hit the airport and knocked back a few drinks before heading to Vegas then on to Florida.  We go in at night and had an important day ahead so we took it easy so no one would look too haggard on a 62"HD set.  The next day we got ready and headed to the station.  It would pour buckets of rain, then the sun would come out for 20 min, then the cycle would repeat.  80 degrees but very humid.  We arrived at Telefutura and got settled into the green room.  The producers prepped us about the segments and what the plan was.  We set up and got ready to go live....no pressure right?  The host Felipe introduced the band and off we went with "La Sombra".  We initially wanted to perform our new song "2 Bien Sabes" but there was too much English.  The performance went off well, then Felipe came over for the interview and that was that.  It was fun but live TV is pretty intense, i was just glad everything went off like it did.  We stuck around and took pictures and signed CDs for the staff and hosts.  For all those who watch the Spanish channel with the sound turned down because you don't understand the language but want to see the ladies......this show is for you.  It seems like every female in Miami is blessed this way. Then it was back to the hotel to change and time to celebrate.  We hit a Cuban restaurant to start it off.  Miami is a lot different than other places we've been.  Cubans speak a little different than the more Mexican Spanish I'm used to growing up in California.  And the food is different too.  More fried, more black beans, less salsa/tortillas.  It was good but I prefer platos Mexicanos.  Then we ended up at a Salsa club that was bumping the hits.  We set that thing off till 5am, thats when the closed it down.  The next day was driving around Miami checking out the different spots, lots of palm trees, yachts and people blasting reggaeton.  Couple places looked like a scene straight out of Scarface.  We took a dip in the Atlantic as a lightening storm was hitting, it was pretty surreal.  The water is warm and clear, very tropical.  Then we hit Southbeach.  I would describe it as a dose of LA, touch of Las Vegas and sprinkling of Hawaii in a Latin American country.  yeah we had a good time.  Check out the pictures on our myspace photos under Miami, and the performance on Escandalo TV in on youtube.....

Carnaval is a huge multicultural festival in San Francisco, we played the main stage for Burger Kings "Tu Ciudad, Tu Musica."  The event takes place in 9 other major cities across the US.  We were chosen out of hundreds of bands across California to compete with 3 other bands for the San Francisco crown(cash, guitar, featured on burger king website and radio interviews).  The streets are shut down to accomodate the crowds, lots of music, food and dancers.  We did some pre show interviews with Patricia De Leon (Former Miss Panama) and got ready for our set.  The stage was big, the crowd was great, I felt pretty good about the performance, we played "La Sombra", "Only the Strong Survive" and "2 Bien Sabes."  After all the bands performed, we all were called up to the stage for the winning announcement.  Its hard to describe whats going through your mind, because music is so hard to "judge", on one hand you want to win but on the other hand you never know what the judges are looking for.  The judges came onstage and brought a guitar and huge check for the winner, grabbed the mic and said......and the winner of "Tu Ciudad, Tu Musica" San Francisco is 40 Watt Hype!!  yeeeaahh!  we posed for a bunch of pictures and did some interviews before we had time to celebrate.  The performance and interviews will air on national TV on the show "Azteca Musica." visit www.burgerkingmusica.com for more info, our song plays on the homepage! Thanks to everyone for the support....Check out the picture in our album, but here are a few....

Audie's was the spot friday night.....40 Watt Hype DJ Jammal Renel and the Bayonics.  We were pumped after the news we got voted into "Tu Ciudad Tu Musica" it felt like a good night to play music.  The Bayonics opened the show and blew everybody away.  If you've never checked them out you should.  afro-latin soul, funky grooves out of the bay, great guys too.  We played some new material and had a couple fresh faces sitting in with the band.  Thanks to Brian Gard for recording the show and sending me a copy, i'm going to post up some tracks once I figure out how.  Thanks to everyone who came out.....

One thing is for sure, when you come to a 40 Watt Hype show, you get your moneys worth.  We're not the cheapest group in town but we played for about 2 1/2 hours non-stop at the Starline.  We debuted several new songs from our album currently being recorded.  We kicked off the show with a Curtist Mayfield inspired and as of right now untitled instrumental.  It's funky and slow building, nice way to ease into the show.  Later we busted out the new banger, a song called "Y Tu Bien Sabes Mujer."  loosely translated means...."girl you shoulda known by now ez does it...."  its a song about a guy who meets a girl who has kids and plays instant dad.  Only to find out later she was only using him for his fatherly skills and leaves him for another potential baby daddy.  No its not about me, but its about somebody....I make references to telenovelas, the song "Billie Jean" and lucha libre all in the same song.  On vocals we featured singer Omar Nare, who came up and belted it out.  Another new jam we played is a chilled out groove based r&b tune called "Wanna Be."  Its the story of a broke musician trying to promise his girl he can take her to the places she wants to go.  Coincidentaly the song was written as a gift because that same musician was broke on Valentines Day and wrote the song instead of buying a lame present at the mall....and it is a true story.....about me.  We also had a very talented keyboard player Javon Davis onboard takin everybody to church.  DJ Jammal Renel was spinning the classics and capped the night off with the dance floor bumpin.  So we plan on giving our people quality(new songs) and quantity(over 150 minutes of music non-stop) at every show, like the mens wearhouse....I guarentee it.

Visalia's Cellar Door is quickly becoming our favorite spot to rock in the Valley.  People in Visalia love live music and aren't afraid to show it, thanks to people like Marisa at Cellar Door and Aaron Gomes.  Members of Visalia's own Mezcal came to check out the show, as well as Pete Ortega(brought his tenor) and jumped in on a few songs.  Thanks to everyone who came out, we'll be back March 6th.  Got lost on the way home in the fog, should have stayed for the after party.....
