ROOTS/BLUES/ROCK RECORDING ARTIST
MARSHALL RUFFIN TO RELEASE SOPHOMORE CD

MORNING GLORY OUT NATIONALLY SEPTEMBER 15th 2009

SPECIAL ADVANCE CD RELEASE SHOW SET MARCH 7th
AT THE LOFT LIVE IN COLUMBUS, GA

LaGrange, GA – Jammates Records announces a September 15th national release date for Morning Glory, the label’s sophomore CD from Columbus, Georgia-based roots/blues/rock singer and guitarist Marshall Ruffin. Among those joining Ruffin on the new record are Dennis Baraw (bass), Allen Marcha (drums), and a special guest appearance by Steve Dancz (Hammond organ and Wurlizer electric piano).

In advance of the CD’s national release, Marshall Ruffin will perform a special regional CD release show Saturday, March 7th at The Loft Live in Columbus, GA. Backed by his touring band, Ruffin also will be joined on the stage with opener Joe McGuinness, a recent winner of the Atlanta Blues Challenge. Ruffin’s Loft Live show starts at 9:00pm.

Morning Glory, Marshall Ruffin’s new CD, is a drastic departure from Rich Man’s Dime, his freshman release which spent eight weeks on the roots/blues radio chart and ended the year at #4 on the Georgia Roots Radio Airplay Chart. Morning Glory illuminates Marshall Ruffin’s roots/rock abilities and features five original songs, all written by Ruffin. Early reviews compare the Morning Glory singles to the classic sounds of Traffic and Cream blended with the vibe of modern rockers The Black Keys and The Black Crowes. Morning Glory was tracked and mixed at the Loft Recording Studios in Columbus, GA, produced by Pat Patten and Marshall Ruffin, with tracking engineer Steve Meadows, mixing by Dean Castile, and mastering by the legendary Rodney Mills (Atlanta Rhythm Section, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special, Gregg Allman).

The twenty-four year old Marshall Ruffin grew up in typical Americana where science was at the family’s fabric. After finding a guitar in the attic during his high school years, Ruffin began to teach himself to play. It was while attending college in Richmond, Virginia that he found his focus in the music department. After two years, Marshall applied and was accepted to the Berklee College of Music to complete his formal studies. During his Boston stay, Ruffin recognized and tapped into his songwriting and vocal gifts. Marshall now hails from Columbus, GA, home of mother of the blues, Ma Rainey. Rich Man’s Dime, Marshall Ruffin’s 2008 freshman EP, spent eight weeks on the Roots Music Reports’ roots/blues chart reaching #34 and ending the year at #4 on Georgia Roots Radio.

Crowntown Showdown - Week 1
April 8th, 2008 by Jeff Hahne, Creative Loafing Live Reviews

If you weren’t at The Evening Muse last night for the first edition of the Crowntown Showdown, you missed out!

The monthly open mic series kicked off strongly and it’s going to be tough to compare in the coming editions.

Based on the famous open mic series at Eddie’s Attic in Georgia, it’s held on the first Monday of each month and finalists will compete at the end of the series for prizes.

As one of the judges, last night’s competitors were tough to compare.

The night got started with Russell Howard who used some looping in his second song to show off some of his guitar skills.

Greenville, S.C.’s Wasted Wine showed a good dichotomy of vocals, brought in the fiddle and Harmonium and found themselves in the top three of the night.

Ben Henry was another highlight for all of the judges. We definitely had a tough time not getting him and Kevin Brawley in the top three.

Joshua Panda, clad in purple pants and rainbow jacket, showed off his bluesy acoustic style and vocal range. I hope to hear a lot more out of him in the future.

The evening’s winner was Marshall Ruffin of Columbus, Ga. Dude can sing and play! To say I was amazed by his songwriting talent, instrumental abilities and vocals would be an understatement.

The highlight of the night was the final performance as Ruffin was joined onstage by Panda for a hilarious, soulful and amazing — and spontaneous — song.

Can’t wait to see what those two bring to the finals in July.

Get out to the next one - being held on May 5!

ROOTS/BLUES/AMERICANA SINGER/GUITARIST MARSHALL RUFFIN, FRESHMAN RELEASE RICH MAN'S DIME OUT FEBRUARY 19th 2008

SPECIAL CD RELEASE SHOW SET MARCH 14th AT
THE LOFT LIVE IN COLUMBUS, GA

"AIN'T GONNA WORK" TO BE INCLUDED ON MUSIC IN COLUMBUS (MIC) COMPILATION CD, OUT IN MARCH

LaGrange / Columbus, GA - Jammates Records announces the February 19th release date for Rich Man's Dime, the label debut CD from Columbus, Georgia-based roots/blues/Americana singer and guitarist Marshall Ruffin. Musicians joining Ruffin on his freshman release include first-call Atlanta session bassist Joe Reda (upright, electric and fretless basses) and Sean O'Rourke (drums/percussion), recently off tour with Sugarland.

Ruffin will perform a special show for the CD's release Friday, March 14th at the Loft Live in uptown Columbus with a band backed by Paul Vaillancourt (drum/percussion) and Jason Lane (upright bass).

Marshall's song "Ain't Gonna Work" has been selected to be featured on the upcoming Music In Columbus (MIC) compilation CD. Ruffin will be recognized February 20th by MIC and an all-star Georgia music industry panel including Michele Caplinger [The Recording Academy] and Lisa Love [Georgia Music Magazine]. The MIC compilation CD is due out late in March.

Rich Man's Dime showcases Marshall Ruffin's main influences of roots and blues music, making for a compelling collection of classic Americana. The new EP features five original songs, all written by Ruffin and recorded at Hatch the Egg (formerly the Loft Studios) in Columbus, Georgia. The record was produced by Pat Patten, engineered by Steve Meadows, mastered by Paul Hammock, and with art direction and design by Coe Cloud.

The 23 year old musician grew up in typical Americana, but where science was at the fabric of the family not art. After finding a guitar in the attic during his high school years, Marshall began to teach himself to play. It was while attending college in Richmond, Virginia that he found his focus in the music department. After two years and on a leap of faith, Marshall applied and was accepted to the Berklee College of Music to finish his studies. During his Boston stay, Ruffin recognized and tapped into his songwriting and vocal gifts. There he also met Columbus resident and fellow-musician, Clayton Sanders. It was from his former classmate's encouragement that he decided to move south. "I connect with old blues music" comments Ruffin "and I feel a kindred spirit with Columbus, probably because it's the home of Ma Rainey."

Arriving in the summer of 2007, Ruffin played evening opening slots on The Loft Live stage for dozens of regional and national touring acts. Buddy Nelms [The Loft, Hatch the Egg and New Chris Records] knew Ruffin had something special and was eager to make the introduction to the Jammates team. "When Coe [Cloud] and I heard Marshall, we instantly knew he had "it", says Patten, "all we had to do then was hammer out the agreement details and get into the studio. We're going to be working really hard over the next couple of years to grow his fan-base and release some high quality music. It's especially nice that his songs are so smartly written -- they touch both young and older music fans."

Marshall Ruffin will tour the east coast in support of the release of Rich Man's Dime before entering into the studio later this year to begin work on his first full featured recording. For more information on the Artist, visit www.MarshallRuffin.com or www.JammatesRecords.com

The end of 2007 brought a feature profile on Georgia Public Radio for roots and blues singer-songwriter Marshall Ruffin. Marshall, along with ten top Georgia artists, was highlighted during the one hour Georgia Gazette "Georgia Year in Music" radio special Friday, December 28th. "It was very much an honor", says Ruffin, "I've lived in the state of Georgia for less than a year and I'm humbled to be showcased among such an impressive roster of diverse talent". "Ruffin lives in Columbus and looks like the boy next door, but when he opens his mouth, deep, southern and scruffy blues slowly tickle out", reports Dave Bender, Georgia Public Radio Columbus Bureau Chief. "With snare and high hat beats, a double bass, and traditional blues chord progressions on the guitar, it's obvious his influences include Stevie Wonder and Miles Davis."
