Powerup is a monthly live music event from Edinburgh’s Orange Slice Records, showcasing some amazing local acts alongside the bigger names. Last month saw Hundred Reasons and Johnny Foreigner launch the city’s hottest new music event, with support from Edinburgh based quartet The Void. This month We Are The Physics and Sucioperro take to the stage in Studio 24, with local duo The Fire And I for support.

First on are the eclectic duo The Fire and I, with an incredible noise fusion of drum, bass and occasional keys. For only having two members, The Fire and I are a fantastically loud act and an impressive booking from the Powerup shows. Combining Queens of the Stoneage bass lines with The Automatic yelps, The Fire and I are the perfect duo to start this glorious evening.

Next on are the greatly anticipated trio from Ayrshire, Sucioperro: greatly anticipated because of their rock connections with Biffy Clyro and Marmaduke Duke. Sucioperro boast similar qualities to Biffy Clyro in that they are a three-piece jagged-rock band from Ayrshire, but in themselves, Sucioperro are a classic act that have been penning individualistic and original tunes since 2002. The live performance tonight plays witness to a quintessentially brilliant performance of 'Pain Agency’ album tracks, and a genius burst of audience participation when 'The Dragon’ throws his microphone stand to a member of the front row to finish the song.

The headlining act this evening is odd-pop, math-rock Glaswegian band We Are The Physics. We Are The Physics look like Harry Potter and some college outcasts, but in reality the band are dressed to entertain and leave an audience gazing upon their weird and wonderful style. The band’s almost-punk energy could rival the Ramones, and their spectacularly choreographed hand slaps and dancing puts OKGO to shame. This band truly is a treat for your eyes as well as your ears.

We Are The Physics are very similar to Parka and Johnny Foreigner, fusing indie pop guitar beats with speedy, screaming vocals. The band has a tendency to stop the show mid-song in a musical statues-esque game, spicing up their epic pauses that make their songs so catchy. Handing his bass guitar to an audience member, leadsinger Michael puts down his glasses and jumps into the crowd for a boogie. We Are Physics sure do put on a downright spectacle of a performance.

Tonight in Studio 24, Powerup and Orange Slice Records provided a diverse and fast-paced evening of entertainment in the form of We Are The Physics, Sucioperro and The Fire And I. Whilst the highlight of the evening were the unsigned duo, The Fire and I and their amazing brand of exemplary noise-pop, all three bands put on a fantastically brilliant show that will propel Powerup again to the forefront of Edinburgh’s live music scene.

"The penultimate act comes in the form of hotly-tipped duo The Fire And I. The drum 'n bass (and I mean that literally, as in a drummer and a bassist) power-rockers provide what could have been the performance of the night.

Whether it was the dual-vocals, the drummer playing drums and keyboard simultaneously or the driving bass line reminiscent of early Muse, I am not entirely sure. This is a live show not worth missing though, I can tell you that much."

Well, it's been a busy yet exciting week for The Fire and I

On Thursday:

we played at The Sun Winadeal final in Arta, Glasgow.  It felt like a bus-load of you had come to support us (which is prob true).  To hear what the judges had to say was touching.
 Again, thanks to all of you who voted for us and showed up to show support at the gigs.  It's a great feeling to hear you singing along and see all your creative Fire and I T-shirts (and ties - you know who you are!) Everywhere we play it feels like were back home when we look out and see familiar faces, believe me, you guys helped us win the thing!

Friday and Saturday;

 saw us working away into the early hours of the morning up in Exile Studios in Aberdeen recording the last few tracks of our Debut Album "Kill Or Die".  (It sounds fucking great by the way! even if i do say so myself!) Were hoping to get it all completed and mastered within the next month or so for you guys to get your hands on. So look out for it!

On Sunday;

 we met up with a couple of cool guys with great ideas for The Fire And I through in Edinburgh before rocking at the Jam House.  We mixed our set up for a change with the inclusion of a never-performed-live song "Why oh Why" and a much-evolved-old song "No-one is Coming."  what did yous think?

 Monday;

Well deserved long lie, rehersal, listened to Jim gellatly's show on xfm who played "The Bullwinged Monster"!   Jim's been a friend of ours for a while but until Sunday hasn't been able to see us live.  Cheers for playing us again Jim.

Phew - we barely had time to squeeze a beer in all weekend!
