July 18, 2008 - Friday

Current mood:  adventurous

The Shakespeare Theatre Company announced the extension of its current smash production of Molière's The Imaginary Invalid, adapted by Alan Drury and featuring Tony Award winner René Auberjonois (best known for his screen roles in M*A*S*H and the popular TV show Benson) in the lead role. The production is directed by Keith Baxter with musical staging by Gillian Lynne and now plays through August 2, 2008, at the Lansburgh Theatre (450 7th Street NW), part of the Harman Center for the Arts. Extension performances will be: 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 31; 8 p.m. on Friday, August 1; and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 2. Interested patrons should call the Shakespeare Theatre Company Box Office at 202.547.1122 or visit ShakespeareTheatre.org to reserve tickets.

Molière's keen wit and hilarious characters take center stage in this knockabout farce. When an eccentric and wealthy hypochondriac decides to marry his strong-willed daughter off to a doctor, she attempts to persuade him otherwise with outrageous tricks and disguises.

"êêêê René Auberjonois' performance is one of the season's best.  And so is the show." Washingtonian

"Hiccup-inducing hilarious … Auberjonois is the evening's unquestioned star.  It's physical comedy of the highest order." Washington City Paper

"Fun … Auberjonois is a wonderful physical comic and he sparkles with a kind of inner intelligence and wit.  He is a joy to watch." Metro Weekly

Come see for yourself just how wonderful and funny this show truly is. Afterall, laughter is the best medicine!
