Current mood:  jolly
Congrats to our busy bee of a bassist, Kevin Hilliard, for making the leap to the 'big leagues' this past weekend with a gig at the Molson Amphitheatre with our pals in the Sloan rock band. As Sloan bassist/vocalist Chris Murphy is still nursing a troublesome collarbone, Kev helped out during their set at the V Fest in Toronto, which also included a couple of fledgling bands such as Franz Ferdinand and the Pixies. We expect them to do big things. Very impressive, Kev - all the more so considering the state of disrepair we all plunged ourselves into during our no-holds-barred gig at the lovely Tap two nights before...(which also featured a Sloan guest appearance...)

More to come, gang...and yes, a new record will come out in due time...

All the best to you and yours,
Barry Galore (aka Bee Gee)

Hey folks,

Summer approaches in her flimsy but fun, mildly see-through dress, and the gentlemen of Galore are pleased as punch to entertain her (and you) with a bunch of gigs. (Yeah, it's a strained metaphor but bear with me)

First up, on Thursday May 28 at the Tap on Bloor Street, Galore begins a once-a-month live residency, taking place the last Thursday of every month for the summer. For those who attended our Stone's Place residency back in the days of Galore v. 2.0, these shows will be similar - a rock n roll dance party with plenty of covers, hopefully some special guests (if you wanna sing or play a song with us, let us know here or via our Facebook group), and some of the Galore classics you know and love. It will be a grand ol' time.

We also have a show in London ON come May 30 (Ah, London, it's been too long...). I believe it is at a venue called the Blackshire Pub. And June 5 sees us back in Toranna for a show at Rancho Relaxo.

Work on the new record continues and soon we'll have some sassy new photos for you all to take a peek at. In the meantime, hope to see you at one of the shows and look for more on the way.

Stay classy,
Barry Galore

Here's our first dispatch from the front, or the studio, rather. Hard at work at Galore full-length number 3 (or the last installment of the 'Toronto Triptych' - heh heh). Under the watchful eye and omniscient ear of Steve Krecklo, who is manning the board/acting as our sonic Bunsen Honeydew, the band is crafting 12 songs for 'Roller', which we hope to unleash upon an unsuspecting world by...oh, let's say sometime in the summer.

If our time creating 'Roller' thus far could be reduced to a number of random words/thoughts/quotes/experiences/catch phrases, here's what some of them would be:
Space Echo.
Apple/spacebar.
"Two medium pizzas for the price of one extra-large!"
"This is a job for Dez."
Medium double-double (x 37).
"That drum sound is Todor-riffic."
MicroKorg.
Kronenbourg in cans.
and our favourite:
"Poooooo!"

In all seriousness, we're having an awesome time making this album, and everything's sounding really, really good. For those who are familiar with our last two records, I think I can safely say that this one will have some pretty interesting twists and turns that will be unlike anything you've heard us do before. We hope to play some gigs in the near future to break some of the new material in live, and we'll keep you posted on those, and our progress...

Roll on,
Barry Galore

Hey folks,
A couple songs have been posted from Galore's first two discs - 'Signs of Life' from 2000's Pilot Light EP (on Fading Ways Music) and 'Sweet Sugar Freak' from 2002's Parader (also available via Fading Ways, originally released through Riptide/EMI). Both are primo rock'n'roll songs, good for listening to while having a bevvie or two and getting ready to go out on a Saturday night. If you want to know more about these discs and where/how to pick 'em up, drop us a line right here.
Cheers,
Barry Galore

Long time, no blogginess, so here's some news.

The Galore fellows have decided, after much deliberation and consultation with focus groups, world leaders and citizens of high renown, upon a name for their upcoming third full-length collection of songs (formerly known as an "album").

The name of this new effort, which is still being toiled upon AS WE SPEAK, painstakingly crafted in dark, wintry cold rooms with red wine and old dog-eared Rolling Stones books as the only respite from the harsh conditions of creation, will be...

Roller. As in the April Wine song. As in 'The Bay City...' (but not plural).

"Roller", christened in keeping with our tradition of naming albums with words that end in 'er', will feature new recordings of a couple of the newer songs posted here. It will also feature several other songs. And probably some really nice artwork.

More news to come. If you want to know more about "Roller" and how it can affect your life in these troubled times, please drop us a line here.

Roll on,

Barry Galore

Friends, rollers and countryfolk,

Ring in 'Rocktober' with Galore, The Holyfields and - all the way from Australia - Gigantic on Oct. 2 at the Rivoli in Toronto. It shall be a rock event of epic proportions that may very well alter the course of human history. Well, at the very least, it'll be an awesome show.

Lastly, we know we have been quiet as of late. Rest assured that all of us have been living the dream to some capacity. There will be new songs, new shows, new shoes. And yes, a new album before the apocalypse, as noted by the Mayan calendar.

So once again - rock show - Oct. 2 - with the Holyfields and Gigantic at the Rivoli in Toronto. Be there, or be a dodecahedron.

Best,

Galore HQ

the album is currently number one on the charts at Halifax college radio institution CKDU. congrats to the Gooseberry folk.
as you were,

And now, a message of maximum import, sure to resonate deeply in these troubled times...

Or, in other words, some stuff about what we've been up to lately.

First up, the band is expected to get back into finishing recording for its next magnum opus. Any suggestions for a title out there? Maybe we should have a contest - name our album and we'll play in your backyard, or some such thing. We'll think about it. Meanwhile, we expect to start playing live again by late July or August once everyone wraps up their vacations/etc. We'll keep you abreast of such developments. Trust us.

Speaking of developments, here's what the Galore folk are up to when they're not busy doing...Galore stuff. Drummer Tim Timleck is on the road with rock and roll dudes (and Galore pals) Crash Kelly, touring Canada with the one and only Gilby Clarke. We expect to hear many fine road stories from Tim upon his return, especially concerning narrowly avoiding woodland animals with the tour vehicle.

Kevin Hilliard and Steve Krecklo will be playing the North by Northeast music fest in Toronto happening this weekend (June 12-14) with their happening combo Small Sins. Check the NXNE site for times and dates, but I know one gig is at Toronto's Horseshoe and another at Yonge-Dundas Square. Sadly, Galore wasn't able to do NXNE this year as a couple of us are in 'out-of-town' mode.

Lastly, yours truly, Barry Galore, has a song on the upcoming Thrush Hermit tribute album, Songs for the Gang, from Gooseberry Records and due June 24 through Sonic Unyon or for you 'digital file' aficionados, Zunior.com. I worked with our old pal Laurence Currie (who has also worked with Sloan, Wintersleep, Holy Fuck and my old posse, Cool Blue Halo) on a reworking of the Hermit track 'We Are Being Reduced' (from 'Clayton Park'). It's kind of an obscure track but I've always really liked it, especially the end chorus. I think we did an interesting version of it and hope you dig it if you check it out. One thing to note is that the album jacket may say 'Galore' as the artist doing the track due to a printing error, but in fact it was not a full Galore recording; just me, Laurence, and a room full of good vibes. Perhaps we'll record another Hermit track someday as a band...I think the other fellows would wanna do one of the 'rockers'.

So that's what's up with us. How about you? How you been keeping? You're looking well. Glad to run into you again. Let's stay in touch, okay?

Put 'er there,
Barry Galore

Hey there folks,

Glad to announce that on Thursday, April 17, Galore returns to the stage after a wee break from live performance with a sure-to-be-blistering set at the Tattoo Rock Parlour on Queen St. West in Toronto. We’ll be performing with the snazzy I Spies and the rockulous (like that word? coined it myself...) Five Star Trailer Park. Plus, we’ll be premiering several new songs from our upcoming new, as yet untitled album, due in the summer or so. How fabulous is all of this? Pretty damn fabulous.

So please come on by - tix are $8 for the whole three-band extravaganza.

More news to come...later, gators.

hello there ladies and gentlemen,

It's 2008, and we have some new rock songs available for your listening and dancing pleasure. Please check out 'All the Girls Know', from our still-being-recorded album release, hopefully seeing the light of day come summer. This is an early version - perhaps it will undergo some sort of transformation in the months ahead. More handclaps? Could happen - we'll have to ask The Clapper for his opinion. In the meantime, give it a listen, download it for a limited time, share it with your pals and consider it a gift that keeps on giving, from us to you. We think it's rock of the utmost degree.

And in honour of the continuing melees involving assorted teen stars, we've uploaded our prophetic number 'Teen Rebellion Machine' from the album 'Amplifier', available via iTunes or any record stores/CD shops still remaining on planet Earth.

Cheers, and let us know what you think of the new tuneage. And we hope to see you very soon via live rock and roll performances.

Aloha,
Barry Galore
